Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, so death by this sin; and thereby death passed upon all men, who all by his means became mortal.
how do you know, what will happen to-morrow? for, "what is your life?" a vapour that just appears, and then vanishes.
if we live, our life is appropriated to the Lord; and if we die, we die as his servants: whether we live therefore or die, we are the Lord's.
Then I heard a voice from heaven, saying to me, "write, blessed are the dead who die in the Lord; yes, from henceforth, saith the spirit, they shall rest from their labours; and the recompence of their labours shall follow them."
thus he entertain'd them: and after that, he said to them, our friend Lazarus is asleep; but I am going to awake him. then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he will recover; though Jesus meant it of Lazarus's death: but they understood it of the natural rest in sleep.
at his going in he said to them, what's the meaning of this uproar, what do you weep for? the damsel is not dead, but asleep.
for David, after he had serv'd in his time the designs of providence, died and was buryed with his fathers, and was subject to corruption.
after that, he was seen by above five hundred brethren at once: of whom the greater part remain alive to this day, but some are now dead.
for one thing I have in charge to tell you from the Lord, that we, who shall be found still alive at the coming of the Lord, shall not get the advance of those that are dead: for the Lord himself will descend from heaven, and by the voice of the archangel, with the trumpet of God, resound the summons: they who died christians shall rise first: then we, who shall be still alive, shall be convey'd together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall ever be with the Lord.
I shall now tell you a very great secret: we shall not all of us sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the sound of the last trumpet (for the trumpet shall sound) and the dead shall rise incorruptible; but as for us, we shall be changed.
for the wages of sin is death: but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Jesus reply'd, I am: moreover I declare to you, within a while ye shall see the son of man sitting on the right hand of God, and coming on the clouds of heaven.
and Jesus answered, I AM. and ye shall see the son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.
and then shall they see the son of man come on a cloud, with power and great glory.
"ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up to heaven? this same Jesus who is taken up from you into heaven, shall descend in the same manner as ye have seen him ascend thither."
so Christ being once offered up to take away the sins of many; he shall appear the second time, without making any further expiation to save those who expect him.
As to the day and hour, that no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but the father only.
as to the day and hour, that no one knows, neither the angels in heaven, nor even the son; but the father only.
therefore be ye also prepar'd: for the son of man may come at an hour you least expect.
be ye therefore likewise prepar'd; for the son of man will come, when you least expect him.
"I shall come with surprize, happy he that is upon the watch, and keepeth his garments pure, that his vices may not put him to shame."
for the son of man shall come in the glory of his father, with his angels; and then shall be make retribution to every man according to his works.
When the son of man shall come in his majesty, accompanied with all his holy angels, he shall sit upon the throne of his glory. then all nations shall be assembled before him, and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd separates his sheep from the goats.
and when I am gone, and have prepar'd a place for you, I will come again, to take you with me, that where I am there ye may be also.
therefore suspend your judgment till the Lord comes, who will bring to light the secrets of darkness, and expose the counsels of mens hearts: and then shall every man have his due reward from God.
for the Lord himself will descend from heaven, and by the voice of the archangel, with the trumpet of God, resound the summons: they who died christians shall rise first: then we, who shall be still alive, shall be convey'd together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall ever be with the Lord.
that when the sovereign pastor shall appear, you may carry off a glorious crown, that will never fade.
beloved, we are now the sons of God, tho' it does not yet appear what we shall be: but we know, that when this change shall be, his immediate presence will give us a divine resemblance.
adhere to that, my dear children, that when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.
watch ye therefore (for you don't know when the master of the house will return; whether at evening, or at midnight, or at the cock-crowing, or in the morning)
repent therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshment shall come from the presence of the Lord, who shall send Jesus Christ, who has been beforehand prepar'd thereto,
I enjoin you, before God, who gives life to all, and before Christ Jesus, who made a glorious confession before Pontius Pilate; to observe these precepts, to lead an unspotted life without reproof until the appearance of our Lord Jesus Christ,
Since then this whole system is to be destroyed, how holy should your conduct be, and how ardent your piety?
let not this surprize you: for the time is coming, when all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, and they that have done good, shall rise to the possession of life; and they that have done evil, shall rise to their condemnation.
I have the same expectations from the DEITY, which they themselves entertain, that of the resurrection both of the just and of the unjust.
I say, is the will of him that sent me, that every one who observes the son, and believeth on him, should have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.
Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me shall live even though he were dead:
knowing that he who raised up the Lord Jesus, shall raise up me also by Jesus, and shall present me with you:
for the Lord himself will descend from heaven, and by the voice of the archangel, with the trumpet of God, resound the summons: they who died christians shall rise first:
shall rise to the possession of life; and they that have done evil, shall rise to their condemnation.
and these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.
such will be the resurrection of the dead: the body is sown corruptible, it will be raised incorruptible. it is sown in dishonour, it will be raised in glory: it is sown in decay, it will be raised in power: it is sown an animal body, it will rise a spiritual body. there is an animal body, and there is a spiritual body.
this I say, my brethren, because the body, as it is at present, cannot possess the kingdom of God; and what is corruptible, can't enjoy incorruptibility. I shall now tell you a very great secret: we shall not all of us sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the sound of the last trumpet (for the trumpet shall sound) and the dead shall rise incorruptible; but as for us, we shall be changed.read more.
for this corruptible body must be invested with incorruptibility, this mortal be invested with immortality.
as then it is appointed that men should die but once, after which the judgment ensues;
but they will be call'd to account by him, who is ready to judge both the living and the dead.
Then I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose presence the earth and the heaven fled away, so that they disappear'd. and I saw the dead, small and great, stand before the throne; the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out. of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
besides, the father judgeth no man; but hath committed the full power of judging unto the son:
and he commanded us to publish, and to testify to the people, that he was the person whom God had constituted to be the judge of the living, and of the dead.
because he has fix'd the day, when he will judge in equity, by that man, whom he has appointed thereto: of which he has given full proof to all the world, by having raised him from the dead."
I am he that liveth; I was dead; but now you see I am alive for all eternity, amen; and I have the keys of the grave, and of death."
he that rejecteth me, and does not embrace my doctrine, hath one that condemns him: the doctrine that I have delivered, that shall condemn him in the last day.
and that you, who are distress'd, should obtain your repose, together with us, when the Lord Jesus, with his angels, the ministers of his power, shall descend from heaven, in flaming fire, to take vengeance on those, who know not God, and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:
but the heavens and the earth now existing are kept in store by his Logos, reserv'd for the conflagration of doomsday, when the impious shall be involv'd in perdition.
and whosoever was not found written in the book of life, was cast into the lake of fire.
I declare unto you, he that heareth my doctrine, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come under condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
he that believeth on him, shall not be condemned: but he that believeth not, is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the only begotten son of God.
Sentence of death therefore shall not pass upon those christians who do not lead a vicious life. for the christian dispensation of a spiritual life has set me free from the legal state of sin and death.
for we must all appear before the tribunal of Christ; that every one may receive the retribution, according as his actions in the body were either good or evil.
