The Lord is God, and He has given us light;
Bind the festival sacrifice with cords to the horns of the altar.

Or press down his tongue with a cord?
For it is written in the Law of Moses, “You shall not muzzle the ox while he is threshing.” God is not concerned about oxen, is He?
For the Scripture says, “You shall not muzzle the ox while he is threshing,” and “The laborer is worthy of his wages.”
Now if we put the bits into the horses’ mouths so that they will obey us, we direct their entire body as well.
Do not be as the horse or as the mule which have no understanding,
Whose trappings include bit and bridle to hold them in check,
Otherwise they will not come near to you.
A whip is for the horse, a bridle for the donkey,
And a rod for the back of fools.
For we all stumble in many ways. If anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body as well.
His breath is like an overflowing torrent,
Which reaches to the neck,
To shake the nations back and forth in a sieve,
And to put in the jaws of the peoples the bridle which leads to ruin.
