Wo unto you, ye blind guides, who say, If any one swear by the temple, it is nothing; but if any man swear by the gold of the temple, the oath is binding. Foolish and blind creatures! for which is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold?

And why dost thou look at the splinter in thy brother's eye, but takest no notice of the beam in thine own eye?

But why dost thou look at the chaff in thy brother's eye, and takest no notice of the beam that is in thine own?

Regard them not; for they are blind guides of the blind: and if the blind lead the blind, both will fall into the ditch.

And He said to them by way of parable, Can a blind man guide a blind man? will they not both fall into a ditch?

Wo unto you scribes and pharisees, hypocrites, who tithe even your mint, and anise, and cummin, but neglect the weightier matters of the law, judgement, mercy, and fidelity: these ye ought undoubtedly to practise, and not to omit the others. Blind guides, who strain out a gnat, and swallow a camel!

But the Lord said unto him, ye pharisees clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but your inward part is full of rapine and wickedness. Senseless creatures! Did not He who made the outside, make also that which is within? give alms rather according to your ability:

A good man out of the good treasure of the heart produceth good things; and a wicked man out of the wicked treasure uttereth wicked things: but I tell you, that of every idle word, which men shall speak, they shall give an account in the day of judgement; for by thy words thou shalt be justified,

so do ye likewise outwardly appear to men to be righteous, but within are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.

And He said unto them, O people void of understanding and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken.

And Jesus replied, Are ye also still void of understanding? Do ye not yet know, that whatever goeth into the mouth passeth to the belly and is discharged downwards? But the things, which proceed out of the mouth, come from the heart, and those defile a man.read more.
For out of the heart proceed wicked disputings, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false-witnessings, slanders: these defile a man, but to eat without washing the hands doth not defile him.

But said He, What cometh out of a man, that defileth the man; for out of the heart of men proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murthers, thefts, avarice, malice, deceit, lasciviousness, envy, slander, pride, folly;read more.

And Jesus knowing it saith unto them, What are ye reasoning about? because ye have no bread? Do ye not yet discern nor understand? have ye your heart still hardened?

Do ye not yet understand, nor remember the five loaves divided among five thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?

But they knew not his meaning, and were afraid to ask Him.

After this He appeared in another form to two of them as they were walking, going into the country: and they went and told the rest; but they did not believe them neither. At last he appeared to the eleven as they were sitting at table, and upbraided them with their unbelief, and hardness of heart; because they did not believe those who had seen Him after He was risen.

And He spake a parable to them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: and he reasoned within himself, saying, What shall I do? for I have not room to lay up my corn. And he said, This I will do: I will pull down my barns, and build larger ones; and there I will bestow all my products and my goods.read more.
And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast plenty of goods laid up for many years, take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night shall thy soul be required of thee; then whose shall those things be which thou hast provided? So is he that heapeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich towards God.

Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust corrupts, and where thieves break through and steal:

Whoever therefore heareth these words of mine, and performeth them, I will compare him to a prudent man, who built his house on a rock: and the rain fell upon it, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house, and it fell not; for it was founded upon a rock. And whoever heareth these words of mine, and performeth them not, shall be likened to a foolish man, who built his house upon the sand:read more.

Now while the bridegroom stayed, they were all drowsy and fell asleep: and in the middle of the night there was a cry, The bridegroom is coming, go out to meet him. Then all the virgins rose up and trimmed their lamps: and the foolish ones said to the wise, Give us of your oil, for our lamps are going out: but the wise answered them, saying, Least there should not be enough for us and you, go rather to them that sell it, and buy for yourselves. And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and they that were ready went in with him to the wedding-feast, and then the door was shut. Afterwards came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us: but he answered them, Verily I declare unto you, I do not know you. Watch therefore, for ye know not the day, nor the season in which the Son of man cometh.

Watch ye therefore; for ye know not when the master of the house cometh: (in the evening, or at midnight, or at the cock-crowing, or in the morning:) least coming on a sudden he should find you sleeping.

Let your loins be girt, and your lights burning, and ye yourselves like men waiting for their lord's return from a wedding, that they may immediately open the door to him, when he comes and knocks.

but I say unto you, that whosoever is angry with his brother without cause shall be liable to the judgment; and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be obnoxious to the council; but whosoever shall say, "Thou fool," shall be in danger of hell-fire.
