While it remained, was it not thine own? And after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? Why didst thou conceive this thing in thy heart? Thou didst not lie to men, but to God. And Ananias, hearing these words, fell down, and expired. And great fear came on all that heard of it. And the young men arose, and wrapt him up, and carried him out, and buried him. And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what had happened, came in. Peter said to her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much. And she said, Yes, for so much. And Peter said to her, Why is it that ye agreed together to try the Spirit of the Lord? Lo! the feet of those who have buried thy husband are at the door, and they will carry thee out. And she fell down immediately at his feet, and expired; and the young men, when they came in, found her dead, and carried her out, and buried her by her husband. And great fear came upon all the church, and upon all that heard of these things.

And he spoke a parable to them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully. And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do? for I have not where to store my crops. And he said, This will I do; I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I store all my crops and my goods;read more.
and I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast many goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, be merry. But God said to him, Fool! this night will thy soul he required of thee; and whose will those things be which thou hast laid up? So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich towards God.

And he said to them, Take heed and beware of all covetousness; for even when one hath great abundance, his life doth not depend upon his possessions.

No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate one, and love the other; or else he will cleave to one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

Lay not up for yourselves treasures on earth, where the moth and rust consume, and where thieves break through and steal;

For the love of money is a root of all evils; which some coveting have strayed away from the faith, and have pierced themselves through with many pangs.

Make dead therefore your members which are upon the earth, fornication, uncleanness, lust, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry;

For we brought nothing into the world; and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
