There is one who scatters and yet increases; but one who withholds just due comes only to poverty.
There is a sore evil which I have seen under the sun, namely, riches kept for their owners to their hurt.
For we brought nothing into the world, and it is clear that we can carry nothing out.
But they who will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts which plunge men into destruction and perdition. For the love of money is a root of all evils, of which some having lusted after, they were seduced from the faith and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
And a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession. And he kept back part of the price, his wife also knowing, and brought a certain part and laid it at the apostles' feet.
For they do not know to do right, says Jehovah, those who store up violence and robbery in their palaces.
Do not lay up treasures on earth for yourselves, where moth and rust corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal.
Jesus said to him, If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in Heaven. And come, follow Me.
Sell what you have and give alms. Make for yourselves purses which do not become old, an unfailing treasure in Heaven, where no thief comes nor moth corrupts.
He who withholds grain, the people shall curse him; but blessing is on the head of him who sells.
Though he heaps up silver like the dust, and prepares clothing like the clay, he may prepare, but the just shall put it on, and the innocent shall divide the silver.
Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in the power of your hand to do it.
Come now, rich ones, weep and howl for your hardships coming on. Your riches have rotted, and your clothes have become moth-eaten. Your gold and silver have corroded, and their poison will be a witness against you, and will eat your flesh as fire. You heaped treasure in the last days.
