For we who have believed enter that rest, as he has said, "As I swore in my wrath, 'They shall never enter my rest,'" although his works were finished from the foundation of the world. For he has somewhere spoken of the seventh day in this way: "And God rested on the seventh day from all his works."
For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later of another day.
And I heard a voice from heaven, saying, "Write, 'Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on!'" "Yes," says the Spirit, "that they may rest from their labors, for their deeds follow them."
It was now about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour,
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.
I am hard pressed between the two. My desire is to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better;
Then we who are alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words.
Yet you have a few names in Sardis, people who have not soiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white, for they are worthy.
Therefore, they are before the throne of God and serve him day and night in his temple; and he who sits on the throne will spread his tent over them.
We are confident, I say, and would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord.
His master said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your master.'
And men will come from east and west, and from north and south, and sit at table in the kingdom of God.
For the Lamb in the center of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of living water; and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes."
Then he showed me the river of the water of life, clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb, through the middle of the street of the city; also, on either side of the river, the tree of life bearing twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.
For after all it is only just for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you, and to give relief to you who are afflicted and to us as well when the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels in flaming fire,
they cried out with a loud voice, "O Sovereign Lord, holy and true, how long before you judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?" Then each of them were given a white robe, and they were told to rest a little longer, until the number of their fellow servants and their brethren should be completed, who were to be killed as they had been.
I said to him, "Sir, you know." And he said to me, "These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
Therefore, while the promise of entering his rest remains, let us fear lest any one of you be judged to have come short of it. For we also have had the good news preached to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because those who heard did not combine it with faith. Since therefore it remains for some to enter it, and those who formerly had the good news preached to them failed to enter because of disobedience, God again set a certain day, "Today," saying through David after so long a time just as has been said before, "Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts." For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later of another day. So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God's rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from his. Therefore let us be diligent to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following the same example of disobedience.
he will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will there be mourning nor crying nor pain any more, for the former things have passed away."
nor can they die any more, for they are equal to the angels and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection.
And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.
Then comes the end, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all rule and all authority and power.
They will hunger no more, nor thirst anymore; the sun will not beat down on them, nor any scorching heat. For the Lamb in the center of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of living water; and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes."
There will no longer be any curse; and the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will serve him.
Therefore let us be diligent to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following the same example of disobedience.
