Matthew 12:40

While they were traveling in Galilee, Jesus said to them: The Son of man will be given up into the hands of men. They will put him to death. The third day he will be raised from death. They were very sad.

Jesus went to Jerusalem. The disciples followed him. They were amazed at what Jesus did. Others followed and were afraid. He met with the twelve to tell them the things that were to happen to him. When we go to Jerusalem the Son of man will be turned over to the chief priests and the scribes. They will condemn him to death and hand him over to the people of the nations. They will mock him, spit on him, and scourge him. Then they will kill him. After three days he will rise again.

Mark 14:27

Jesus told them: You would all be turned away from me. It is written, I will put the keeper of the sheep to death, and the sheep will be put to flight.

Moses and Elijah talked to him. They appeared in glory and spoke about the death he was about to experience at Jerusalem.

Jesus perceived what they wanted to ask him. He said to them: You inquire among yourselves concerning what I said. A little while, and you will not see me, and again a little while, and you will see me? Truly I tell you, you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice. You will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will be turned into joy. A woman in tribulation has sorrow, because her hour to give birth has come. When she delivers the child, she remembers no more anguish, because of the joy that a man is born into the world. You have sorrow now. But I will see you again. Your heart will rejoice and no one can take your joy from you.
