10 Bible Verses about Jesus Foretelling His Resurrection

Just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the huge fish, so the Son of man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth [the grave].

From that time forward Jesus made it clear to his disciples how he would have to go to Jerusalem. He told them he would undergo much at the hands of the authorities, including the chief priests and scribes. He let them know he would be put to death. The third day he would come back from the dead.

While they were traveling in Galilee, Jesus said to them: The Son of man will be given up into the hands of men. They will put him to death. The third day he will be raised from death. They were very sad.

They came down the mountain. He warned them not to tell anyone what they had seen until after the Son of man had risen from the dead.

Jesus went to Jerusalem. The disciples followed him. They were amazed at what Jesus did. Others followed and were afraid. He met with the twelve to tell them the things that were to happen to him. When we go to Jerusalem the Son of man will be turned over to the chief priests and the scribes. They will condemn him to death and hand him over to the people of the nations. They will mock him, spit on him, and scourge him. Then they will kill him. After three days he will rise again.

Jesus told them: You would all be turned away from me. It is written, I will put the keeper of the sheep to death, and the sheep will be put to flight.

Moses and Elijah talked to him. They appeared in glory and spoke about the death he was about to experience at Jerusalem.

Jesus replied: Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up. The Jews responded: It took forty-six years to build this temple and you will raise it up in three days? But he spoke of the temple of his body.read more.
When he was raised from the dead his disciples remembered that he said this. Then they believed the Scripture and the word that Jesus said.

I am the good shepherd. I know my own, and my own know me. Just as the Father knows me I know the Father! I lay down my life for the sheep. I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I will also bring them. They will hear my voice and they will become one flock, one shepherd.read more.
The Father loves me. Therefore I lay down my life and I take it back again. No one takes it away from me, but I lay it down voluntarily. I have authority (jurisdiction) (right) to lay it down, and I have authority to take it again. I have received this commandment from my Father.

A little while and you will see me no more and again a little while, and you will see me. Some of his disciples said to one another: What is this he says, a little while, and you see me no more and again a little while and you will see me because I go to the Father? Jesus perceived what they wanted to ask him. He said to them: You inquire among yourselves concerning what I said. A little while, and you will not see me, and again a little while, and you will see me? Truly I tell you, you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice. You will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will be turned into joy. A woman in tribulation has sorrow, because her hour to give birth has come. When she delivers the child, she remembers no more anguish, because of the joy that a man is born into the world. You have sorrow now. But I will see you again. Your heart will rejoice and no one can take your joy from you.
