9 Bible Verses about Neglect

Neglect not the gift that is in you, which was given you according to prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the eldership.

Alas for you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you pay tithes of mint and dill and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law, its justice, its mercy, and its faithfulness. These you ought to have done, and those you ought not to have neglected.

But alas for you, Pharisees! for you tithe mint and rue and every herb, and pass by the justice and the love of God; these you ought to have done, and those you ought not to have left undone.

For as a man, on leaving his country, called his own servants, and delivered to them his goods: To one he gave five talents; to another, two; and to another, one; to each one, according to his own ability, and immediately left his country. In like manner also, he that had received the two, gained other two. But he that had received the one, went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord's money. After a long time, the lord of those servants came and settled with them. And he that had received the five talents came and brought other five talents, and said: Lord, you delivered to me five talents: see, I have gained other five talents in addition to them. His lord said to him: Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many. Enter into the joy of your lord. And he also that had received the two talents came, and said: Lord, you delivered to me two talents; see, I have gained other two talents in addition to them. But he that had received the one talent came, and said: Lord, I knew you, that you are a hard man, reaping where you did not sow, and gathering where you did not scatter. And I was afraid, and went and hid your talent in the earth; see, you have yours. His lord answered and said to him: Wicked and slothful servant; did you know that I reap where I did not sow, and gather where I did not scatter? Therefore, you ought to have put my money with the bankers; and, when I came, I could have received my own with interest. Therefore, take from him the talent, and give it to him that has the ten talents. For to every one that has, it shall be given, and he shall have abundance. He said, there fore: A certain nobleman went into a distant country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return. And he called his ten servants, and gave them ten pounds, and said to them, Engage in trade till I come. And it came to pass, that, when he had returned, having received the kingdom, he commanded those servants to be called, to whom he had given the money, that he might know what each had gained by trading. And the first came and said: Lord, your pound has gained ten pounds. And he said to him: Well done, good servant; because you have been faithful in a very little, have authority over ten cities. And the second came and said: Lord, your pound has gained five pounds. And he said to him also: And be you over five cities. And another came and said: Lord, behold your pound, which I have kept laid away in a napkin. For I was afraid of you, because you are a hard man; you take up that which you did not lay down, and reap that which you did not sow. Then he said to him: Out of your own mouth will I judge you, you wicked servant. You knew that I was a hard man, taking up what I did not lay down, and reaping what I did not sow. And why then did you not put my money into the bank, that, when I came, I could have collected it with inter est? And he said to those who stood by: Take from him the pound, and give it to him that has ten pounds. And they said to him: Lord, he has ten pounds. For I say to you, To every one that has, it shall be given; but from him that has not, even that which he has shall be taken away.

Let your loins be girded, and your lamps burning; and be like men that are waiting for their lord, when he shall return from the wedding; that, when he comes and knocks, they may open for him immediately. Blessed are those servants whom their lord, when he comes, shall find watching. Verily I say to you, That he will gird himself and make them recline at table, and will come forth and serve them.read more.
And if he shall come in the second watch, and if he shall come in the third watch, and find them thus, blessed are those servants. But know this, that if the master of the house had known at what hour the thief comes, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken through. But if that servant shall say in his heart, My lord delays his coming, and shall begin to strike the men-servants and the maid-servants, and to eat and to drink, and to be drunk; the lord of that servant will come in a day in which he looks not for him, and at an hour which he knows not; and will cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the unfaithful. And that servant who knew his lord's will, but made no preparation, nor did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes; but he that knew not, and did things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few. To whomever much has been given, of him shall much be required; and to whom men have intrusted much, of him will they ask the more.

Therefore, we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest we let them glide away. For if the word spoken by angels was steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just punishment, how shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation? which at first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard him;read more.
