In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that a census should be taken of all the inhabited earth.
It was the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar. Pontius Pilate was governor of Judaea. Herod served as tetrarch of Galilee. Herod's brother Philip was tetrarch of the region of Ituraea and Trachonitis. Lysanias was tetrarch of Abilene.
All the elders of Israel came to King David at Hebron. He made a sacred alliance with them. They anointed him, and he became king of Israel. David was thirty years old when he became king. He ruled for forty years. In Hebron he ruled Judah for seven years and six months. In Jerusalem he ruled for thirty-three years over all Israel and Judah.
Nevertheless Jehovah established judges who delivered them out of the hand of those who plundered them. Yet they would not listen to their judges, but prostituted themselves to other gods. They worshiped them. They turned quickly, out of the way in which their fathers walked obeying the commandments of Jehovah. When Jehovah established judges he supported each judge. He delivered them out of the hand of their enemies all the days the judge lived. He had compassion for them as they groaned under those who oppressed and afflicted them.read more.
When the judge was dead they returned and corrupted themselves more than their fathers. They followed other gods to serve them, and to bow down to them. They did not give up their evil practices and stubborn ways.
The Israelites cried out to Jehovah, and he sent someone to free them. This was Othniel, the son of Caleb's younger brother Kenaz.
The leaders of Issachar came with Deborah. Issachar came and Barak too, and they followed him into the valley. But the tribe of Reuben was divided; they could not decide to come.
The king told his officers: Do you not know that today a leader, a great man, has fallen in Israel?

If you do this, as God commands, you will not wear yourself out. All these people can go home with their disputes settled.
So David did everything Saul sent him to do successfully. Saul made him a commander in his army. This pleased the people and Saul's servants.
The priest who is anointed with oil and wears the chief priest's clothes is chief over his brothers. He must never mourn by leaving his hair uncombed or by tearing his clothes.
If you are innocent, the community must protect you from that relative. They must take you back to the city of refuge you fled to. You must live there until the death of the chief priest who was anointed with the holy oil.

Moses took the anointing oil to anoint the tent and everything in it and dedicate them. He sprinkled the altar seven times. He anointed the altar; it's utensils, the washbasin and its pedestal. This made them holy. He also poured some of the anointing oil on Aaron's head and anointed him to set him apart for his holy duties.
Eleazar, son of the priest Aaron, will be in charge of the oil for the lamps, the sweet-smelling incense, the daily grain offering, and the anointing oil. He is in charge of the whole tent and everything in it, the holy place and its contents.
Phinehas, the son of Eleazar the priest, said to them: We know that Jehovah is with us. You have not rebelled against him. So you have saved the people of Israel from Jehovah's punishment.
The officers obeyed Jehoiada's instructions and brought their men to him, those going off duty on the Sabbath and those going on duty.
Moses stood in the gate of the camp and said: Who is on Jehovah's side? Come to me. All the sons of Levi came to him.
Put the Levites in charge of the tent of God's words, including the equipment for the tent and everything else having to do with the tent. The Levites will carry the tent and all its equipment. They will take care of the tent and camp around it.
You and your sons and daughters, male and female slaves, and the Levites who live in your cities must eat these in the presence of Jehovah your God at the place he will choose. The priests and Levites in every region of Israel aligned with Rehoboam. The priests abandoned their land and property and went to Judah and Jerusalem because Jeroboam and his descendants rejected them as Jehovah's priests.
For we have many members in one body and all members do not have the same function. These many members are one body in Christ, and every one, individually, is a member one of the other. one who manages well his own house, having his children in subjection with all seriousness; if a man does not know how to rule his own house, how will he take care of the congregation of God? He should not be a new believer, so that he will not become conceited and fall into the condemnation of the Devil. He must have a good reputation with those outside the congregation, so that he will not fall into reproach and the snare of the Devil. Ministerial servants should likewise be men of dignity, not double-tongued, or addicted to much wine or fond of sordid gain. They should maintain the secret of the faith with a clear conscience. Let these be tested first. Then let them serve as servants, if they are blameless. Women in like manner must be serious, not slanderers, temperate, faithful in all things. Let servants be husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well. For they that have served well as servants gain to themselves a good standing and great confidence (boldness of speech) in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.
Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in the word and in teaching.
You also as living stones are built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
He made us to be a kingdom of kings and priests to his God and Father. To him be glory and power forever and ever. Amen.
You made them kings and priests to our God. They will reign as kings over the earth.
Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them. They shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall rule as kings with him for the thousand years.

They reasoned among themselves which of them was the greatest. When Jesus detected the reasoning of their heart, he took a little child, and set him by his side. Then he said to them: Whoever receives this little child in my name receives me. Whoever receives me receives him who sent me. He who is least among you will be the greatest!

When you are invited to a marriage feast do not take the place of honor. Someone more distinguished than you may be invited. Your host would tell you, give this person your place. Then you would be embarrassed and have to take the place of least honor. When you are invited, take the place of least honor. Then, when your host comes, he will tell you, friend, move to a more honorable place. And the other guests will see how you are honored.
