But Jesus said to him, "Put your sword back in its place, for all who take the sword will perish by the sword. Do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father, and he will at once send me more than twelve legions of angels?

but he was rebuked for his own transgression by a donkeya beast without speechwho spoke with a man's voice and restrained the prophet's madness.

For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps. "He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth;" when he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he uttered no threats, but he trusted himself to him who judges justly.

And the high priest stood up and said, "Have you no answer to make? What is it that these men testify against you?" But Jesus remained silent. And the high priest said to him, "I charge you under oath by the living God: tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God."

And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, "Have you no answer to make? What is it that these men testify against you?" But he was silent and made no answer. Again the high priest asked him, "Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?"

But when he was accused by the chief priests and elders, he made no answer. Then Pilate said to him, "Do you not hear how many things they testify against you?" But he gave him no answer, not even to a single charge; so that the governor wondered greatly.

And Pilate again asked him, "Have you no answer to make? See how many things they bring against you." But Jesus still made no answer, so that Pilate was amazed.

And when he got into the boat, his disciples followed him. And behold, a great storm arose on the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves. But he was asleep. The disciples went and woke him, saying, "Lord, save us! We are perishing!"read more.
And he said to them, "Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?" Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. And the men marveled, saying, "What sort of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him?"

And leaving the crowd, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. And a great storm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. But he was in the stern, asleep on a cushion. And they woke him and said to him, "Teacher, do you not care if we perish?"read more.
Then he rose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, "Peace! Be still!" And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. He said to them, "Why are you so afraid? Have you no faith?" And they were filled with awe, and said to one another, "Who is this? Even the wind and the sea obey him!"

One day he got into a boat with his disciples, and he said to them, "Let us go over to the other side of the lake." So they set out. As they sailed he fell asleep. And a windstorm came down on the lake, and they were filling with water, and were in danger. And they went and woke him, saying, "Master, Master, we are perishing!" Then he awoke and rebuked the wind and the raging waves; and they ceased, and there was a calm.read more.
He said to them, "Where is your faith?" And they were afraid, and they marveled, saying to one another, "Who then is this, that he commands even the winds and water, and they obey him?"

And if the Lord had not shortened those days, no flesh would be saved; but for the sake of the elect, whom he chose, he shortened the days.

And if those days had not been shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened.

And you know what restrains him now, so that in his time he may be revealed. For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way.

And he seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years,

I do not pray that you should take them out of the world, but that you should keep them from the evil one.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.'

And forgive us our sins, for we ourselves also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation.'"

saying, "Do not harm the earth, the sea, or the trees until we have sealed the servants of our God on their foreheads."

The Lord is not slow about his promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.

If anyone thinks himself to be religious, and yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this man's religion is worthless.

For we all stumble in many ways. If anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body as well. If we put bits into the mouths of horses that they may obey us, we guide their whole bodies. Look at the ships also; though they are so great and are driven by strong winds, they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the will of the pilot directs.read more.
So also the tongue is a small part of the body, and yet it boasts of great things. See how great a forest is set aflame by such a small fire! And the tongue is a fire, a world of evil among the members of the body. The tongue corrupts our whole person, sets the whole course of our life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell. For every species of beasts and birds, of reptiles and creatures of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by the human race. But no man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the likeness of God. From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brethren, this ought not to be so. Does a spring pour forth from the same opening both fresh and bitter water? Can a fig tree, my brethren, produce olives, or a grapevine produce figs? Nor can salt water produce fresh.

For, "He who would love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit.

Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you obey its passions.
