Then Jesus said to him, "Put your sword back where it belongs, for all who wield the sword will die by the sword. Do you suppose that I am unable to appeal to my Father and have Him furnish me on the spot one hundred thousand angels?

but was reproved for his offense; a dumb animal spoke with a human voice and stopped the prophet's madness.

Indeed, it was to this kind of living that you were called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example that you might follow His footsteps. He never committed a sin, and deceit was never found on His lips. Although He was abused, He never retorted; although He continued to suffer, He never threatened, but committed His case to Him who judges justly.

Then the high priest arose and said to Him, "Have you no answer to make? What do you say to the evidence that they bring against you?" But Jesus kept silent. So the high priest said to Him, "I charge you, on your oath, in the name of the living God, tell us whether you are the Christ, the Son of God."

Then the high priest arose in the midst and asked Jesus, "Have you no answer to make? What about this testimony they are giving against you?" But He kept silent and made no answer at all. So the high priest again questioned Him in these words, "Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?"

And while the charges were being made against Him by the high priests and elders, He made no answer. Then Pilate said to Him, "Do you not hear how strong is the evidence they are bringing against you?" But He did not answer him a single word, so that the governor was dumbfounded beyond expression.

Then again Pilate asked Him, "Have you no answer to make? Just see how many charges they are making against you!" But Jesus made no further answer at all, so that Pilate was astonished.

And He got into a boat, and His disciples went with Him. And suddenly a furious storm came up, so that the boat was being covered over by the bursting billows, but He kept on sleeping. So they went to Him and woke Him up, and said, "Lord, save us; we are going down!"read more.
And He said to them, "Why are you afraid, O you with little faith?" Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. And the men were dumbfounded, and said, "What sort of man is this, for even the winds and the sea obey Him!"

So they left the crowd and took Him in the boat in which he was sitting. And there were other boats with Him. But a furious squall of wind came up, and the waves were dashing over into the boat, so that it was fast filling. He was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. So they woke Him up and said to Him, "Teacher, is it no concern to you that we are going down?"read more.
Then He aroused Himself and reproved the wind, and said to the sea, "Hush! Be still." And the wind lulled, and there was a great calm. Then He asked them, "Why are you afraid? Have you no faith yet?" They were very much frightened, and said to one another, "Who can He be that even the wind and the sea obey Him?"

One day He got into a boat with His disciples, and He said to them, "Let us cross to the other side of the lake." So they set sail. Now as they were sailing along, He fell off to sleep. But a furious squall of wind rushed down upon the lake, and they were filling up and were in impending peril. So they came to Him and woke Him up, and said, "Master, Master, we are perishing? Then He aroused Himself and reproved the wind and the surge of the water, and they stopped at once and instantly there came a calm.read more.
Then He said to them, "Where is your faith?" But they were frightened and astounded, and continued to say to one another, "Who can He be? For He gives orders even to the winds and the water, and they obey Him."

If the Lord had not cut those days short, nobody would have escaped, but for the sake of the people chosen as His own He has cut them short.

And if those days had not been cut short, nobody would have escaped, but for the sake of God's chosen people those days will be cut short.

So now you know the power that is holding him back, that he is to be unveiled at His own appointed time. For the secret power of lawlessness is already at work, but only until he who is holding it back has been gotten out of the way.

He seized the dragon, the ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years.

I am not asking you to take them out of the world, but to keep them from the evil in it.

And do not let us be subjected to temptation, but save us from the evil one.

and forgive us our sins, for we ourselves forgive everyone who does us wrong, and do not let us be subjected to temptation.'"

The Lord is not slow about His promise, in the sense in which some think of slowness, but He is really dealing patiently with you, because He is not willing for any to perish but for all to have an opportunity to repent?

If anyone thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue, but deceives himself, his religious worship is worthless.

For we all make many a slip. If anyone never slips in speech, he is a man of maturity; he can control his whole body too. If we put bridles into horses' mouths to make them obey us, we can guide their whole bodies, too. Look at ships, too; though great and driven by violent winds, they are steered with a tiny rudder wherever the pilot pleases.read more.
So the tongue, too, is a little organ but can boast of great achievements. See how a spark, ever so tiny, can set a vast forest on fire! And the tongue is a fire, and takes its place among the parts of our bodies as a world of evil; it soils the whole body and sets on fire the circle of man's nature, and itself is set on fire by hell. For every kind of beasts and birds, of reptiles and sea animals, can be, or have been, tamed by man; but the tongue no human being can tame. It is an evil incapable of being quieted, full of deadly poison. With it we bless the Lord and Father, and with it we curse men who are made in God's likeness. Out of the same mouth flow blessing and cursing! It ought not to be like this, my brothers. A fountain cannot pour from the same opening fresh and brackish water, can it? A fig tree, my brothers, cannot bear olives, or a grape-vine figs, can it? And a salt spring cannot furnish fresh water.

For "Whoever wants to enjoy life and see delightful days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit.

Accordingly, sin must not continue to reign over your mortal bodies, so as to make you continue to obey their evil desires,
