Hear, therefore, the parable of the sower. When any one hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and takes away the seed sown in his heart. This is he that received seed by the way. He that received seed on the rocky places is he that hears the word and immediately receives it with joyread more.

But the parable signifies this; the seed is the word of God; those by the way are those who hear, then comes the devil and takes away the word from their hearts, that they may not believe and be saved; those on the rock are those who, when they hear, receive the word with joy, and they have no root; they believe for a time, and in a time of trial fall away;read more.
and that which fell among thorns signifies those who hear, and going away are choked by cares and riches and the pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection. But that on the good ground signifies those who, with a noble and good heart, hearing the word retain it, and bear fruit persistently.
And he delivered them another parable, saying; The kingdom of heaven is like a man sowing good seed in his field; and while the men slept, his enemy came and sowed poisonous darnel in the midst of the wheat, and went away. But when the stalk grew up and bore fruit, then the poisonous darnel appeared.read more.
And the servants of the householder came and said to him, Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? Whence then has it poisonous darnel? And he said to them, An enemy has done this. And they said to him, Do you wish us to go and take them out? And he said, So is the kingdom of God as a man casts the seeds into the earth, and sleeps and wakes, night and day, and the seed germinates, and grows he knows not how. The earth produces spontaneously, first the stalk, then the head, then the full wheat in the head.read more.
