Do not think I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I came, not to destroy, but to fulfill (perfect) (execute) (accomplish).

He closed the book, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of all in the synagogue were fastened on him. Today, he said, you heard this scripture fulfilled.

This has taken place so that the writings of the prophets will come true. Then all his disciples left him.
