Our Lord is great, and his power is great. There is no limit to his understanding.

They are darkened (blinded) (obscured) in their understanding, alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardening of their heart.

Have the eyes of your heart enlightened, that you may know the hope of his calling, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the holy ones,

He who is void of wisdom despises his neighbor, but a man of understanding holds his peace.

How blessed is the man who finds wisdom. Happy is the man who gains understanding.

He who acquires wisdom loves life. He who guards understanding finds good.

This I say therefore, and testify (affirm) in the Lord, that you no longer walk as the nations also walk, in the vanity (futility) (depravity) of their mind (thinking). They are darkened (blinded) (obscured) in their understanding, alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardening of their heart. They are past feeling. They have given themselves over to loose conduct, to work all uncleanness with greediness (a lust for more).

He who tills his land will have plenty of bread. He who follows worthless people lacks sense.

He who commits adultery with a woman lacks judgment and destroys himself.

for when they knew God, they did not glorify him as God. They did not thank him and were vain in their reasoning, for their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools. They changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and four-footed beasts, and creeping things.

All who make idols are nothing. The things they treasure are worthless. Those who would speak up for them are blind. They are shamefully ignorant. Who shapes a god and casts a useless and good for nothing idol. He and his kind will be put to shame. Craftsmen are merely men. The blacksmith takes a tool and works with it in the coals. He shapes an idol with hammers; he forges it with the might of his arm. He gets hungry and loses his strength. He drinks no water and grows faint. The carpenter measures with a line and makes an outline with a red chalk marker. He roughs it out with chisels and marks it with a compass. He shapes it in the form of man in all his glory, that it may dwell in a shrine. He cut down cedars, or cypress or oak. He let it grow among the trees of the forest, or planted a pine, and the rain made it grow. It is man's fuel for burning so he takes some to warm himself. He kindles a fire and bakes bread. But he also fashions a god and worships it. Yes he makes an idol and bows down to it. Half of the wood they burn in the fire. Over this half they roast meat that they can eat until they are full. They also warm themselves and say: We are warm. We can see the fire! But the rest of the wood they make into gods, carved statues. They bow to them and worship them. They pray to them and say: Rescue us, because you are our gods. They do not know or understand anything. Their eyes are plastered shut and cannot see. Their minds are closed and therefore they cannot understand. No one stops to think. No one has enough knowledge or understanding to say: I burned half of the wood in the fire. I also baked bread over its coals. I roasted meat and ate it. Now I am making the rest of the wood into a disgusting thing and bowing to a block of wood.

He who is slow to anger has great understanding. He who is short tempered exalts foolishness.

The respect and reverence for Jehovah is the beginning of wisdom. All who obey his commandments show good sense (insight) and understanding. His praise endures (continues) forever.

Strike a scoffer and the simple will be wary. Reprove someone who has understanding, and he will discern knowledge.

My son, take my words to heart and treasure my commandments within you. Pay close attention to wisdom, and let your [mind and] heart (inner being) reach for discernment. Call out for insight. Lift up your voice for understanding. read more.
Search for wisdom as if it were silver. Hunt for it as if it were hidden treasure! If you do these things you will have respect for Jehovah and you will find the true knowledge of God! Jehovah gives wisdom. From his mouth come knowledge and understanding. He stores up insightful (sound) (substantial) wisdom for the upright. He is a shield for those who walk in integrity. May Jehovah give you discretion and understanding when he puts you in command over Israel, so that you may keep the law of Jehovah your God.

We know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding. We know him that is true for we are in him who is true, [and] in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and everlasting life.

But truly it is the spirit in a man, the breath of the Almighty that makes for understanding.

To man he said: 'Respect for Jehovah is wisdom! To stay away from evil is understanding.'

Respect for Jehovah is the beginning of wisdom. Knowledge of the holy One is understanding (discernment) (truth) (wisdom).

Wisdom dwells with discretion and it finds knowledge and sound judgment. Respect for Jehovah means to hate evil. I hate: pride, and arrogance, the evil way, and the perverse mouth. Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I understand and I am very strong.

I have taught you laws and rules as Jehovah my God commanded me. You must obey them when you enter the land and take possession of it. Carefully obey the laws. For this will show your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations. They will hear all these statutes and say: 'Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.'

A man without understanding shakes hands and becomes surety for his friend.

If your law had not been my delight I would have perished in my affliction. I will never forget your precepts. By them you have revived me. I am yours, save me for I have sought your precepts. And may you know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge. May you be filled with all the fullness of God.

The peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Do you not know? Have you not heard? JEHOVAH IS THE EVERLASTING GOD, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and no one can measure (find out) his understanding.

Wisdom enters your heart. Knowledge gives you pleasure. Discretion will protect you. Understanding will watch over you. It will deliver you from the way of evil, from the man who speaks perverse things. read more.
Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness? Who rejoice in doing evil? They delight in the perversity of the wicked. The wicked are crooked. They are devious in their ways. You will be able to resist any immoral woman who tries to seduce you with her smooth talk. She is unfaithful to her own husband and forgets her sacred vows to God. If you go to her house, you are traveling the road to death. To go there is to approach the dead. No one who visits her ever comes back. He cannot return to the road to life. Buy the truth and do not sell it. Also buy wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.

Wisdom is the most important thing. So gain wisdom! And by all means arrive at understanding.

The wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness. That which is known about God is clear to them, for God revealed it to them. His invisible attributes are clearly seen since the creation of the world. The things made prove His eternal power and divine nature. Mankind has no excuse,

There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against Jehovah!

How much better to get wisdom than gold! And to get understanding instead of silver!

Do not be foolish, but understand (perceive) what the will of Jehovah is.

Understanding is a wellspring of life to the man who has it. But the instruction of fools is folly.

Good understanding gives favor. The way of transgressors is hard.

In wisdom Jehovah founded the earth. In understanding he established the heavens.

A fool (stupid person) does not like understanding when revealing his thoughts.

How great (spectacular) (excellent) are your works, O Jehovah! How very deep are your thoughts! A stupid (senseless) person cannot know and a fool cannot understand.

Trust in Jehovah with all your heart. Do not lean on your own understanding.

Jehovah gives wisdom. From his mouth come knowledge and understanding.

Say to wisdom: You are my sister! Call understanding your friend.
