Behold, the third time I am ready to come to you, and I will not be burdensome to you: for I seek not your substance, but your selves. For children are not expected to lay up for the parents, but the parents for the children.
Upon the first day of the week let every one of you set apart something, putting it into the treasury, according as he is prospered: that there may be no need of collections, when I come.
Let him that stole steal no more; but rather let him labour, doing some good with his hands, that he may have something to bestow on him that hath need of it.
And when they were filled, He saith to his disciples, Gather up the fragments that are left, that nothing may be lost. They therefore gathered them together, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley-loaves, which remained after they had eaten.
Therefore said one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, who was about to betray Him, Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence and given to the poor? He said this, not that he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and having the common purse he carried what was put into it.
but when his disciples saw it, they were some of them provoked at it, and said, Wherefore is this waste? for this ointment might have been sold for a great deal of money, and given to the poor.
And there were some provoked at it and said, Why was this waste made of the ointment? For it might have been sold for above three hundred pence, and given to the poor. And they inveighed against her.
But this I say, He that soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he that soweth bountifully shall also reap bountifully.
And He said unto them, See to it that ye beware of covetousness; for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of his possessions.
And He spake a parable to them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: and he reasoned within himself, saying, What shall I do? for I have not room to lay up my corn. And he said, This I will do: I will pull down my barns, and build larger ones; and there I will bestow all my products and my goods.read more.
And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast plenty of goods laid up for many years, take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night shall thy soul be required of thee; then whose shall those things be which thou hast provided? So is he that heapeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich towards God.
And He said to his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, be not anxious for your life, what ye shall eat; nor for the body, what ye shall put on: the life is more than food, and the body than raiment. Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap; they have neither store-house nor barn, and yet God feedeth them: how much more worth are ye than the fowls?read more.
And which of you by all his thought can add one moment to his life? If then ye cannot do even the lest, why are ye so anxious about the rest? Consider the lilies, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: and yet I tell you, that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Now if God so clothe the grass which is to day in the field, and to-morrow is cast into the furnace, how much more will He clothe you, O ye of little faith? And seek ye not what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; neither be ye in careful suspense: for all these things the nations of the world seek after; but your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things. Seek ye therefore the kingdom of God, and all these shall be super-added unto you.
therefore I say unto you, be not anxious for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not life more than food, and the body than raiment? Look at the birds of the air; they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns: and yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are not ye preferable to them? And which of you by all his thought can add one cubit to his stature?read more.
And why are ye sollicitous about raiment? consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: and yet I tell you, that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Now if God so clothe the grass of the field, which is growing to-day, and to-morrow is cast into the fire, will He not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? Be not therefore anxious, saying, What shall we eat, or what shall we drink, or how shall we be clothed? (things which the heathens are so inquisitive after) for your heavenly Father knows that ye have need of all these. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these shall be superadded unto you. Be not therefore sollicitous about the morrow; for the morrow will require thought for its own affairs: sufficient to each day is its own trouble.
And not many days after the younger son gathered all together and went abroad into a distant country, and there squandered away his substance by living luxuriously.
And He said also to his disciples, There was a certain rich man, who had a steward; and he was accused to him of wasting his goods.
Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust corrupts, and where thieves break through and steal: but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise men: redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
treasuring up to themselves a good foundation for the future, that they may obtain eternal life.
But by thy hardness and impenitence of heart thou art treasuring up to thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the just judgement of God, who will render to every one according to his works:
to them, who by perseverance in well-doing seek for glory, and honor, and immortality, eternal life: but to those who are contentious, and obey not the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath. Tribulation and anguish shall be upon every soul of man that worketh evil, both of the Jew, and of the Gentile:read more.
but glory, and honor, and peace to every one that worketh good, both to the Jew, and to the Greek:
Give to her as she hath given to you, and repay her double according to her works: in the cup, which she hath mixed, mix for her double. As much as she hath glorified herself and indulged to luxury, so much torment and sorrow give her; because she saith in her heart, I sit as a queen, I am not a widow, and I shall see no sorrow.
