And Solomon went to Ezion-geber, and to Eloth, at the seaside in the land of Edom. And Hiram sent ships to him by the hand of his servants, and servants who knew the sea. And they went with the servants of Solomon to Ophir, and took four hundred and fifty talents of gold from there, and brought them to King Solomon.

And the weight of gold which came to Solomon in one year was six hundred sixty-six talents of gold, apart from the merchant men, and and from the traffic of the traders, and from all the kings of Arabia, and from the governors of the lands.

And after this Jehoshaphat king of Judah joined himself with Ahaziah king of Israel; he did wickedly to do so. And he joined himself with him to make ships to go to Tarshish. And they made the ships in Ezion-geber. And Eliezer the son of Dodavah of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, Because you have joined yourself with Ahaziah, Jehovah has broken your works. And the ships were broken so that they were not able to go to Tarshish.

In his days Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah, and made a king over themselves.

Your sail was of fine linen with embroidered work from Egypt, an ensign for you; violet and purple from the coasts of Elishah was your covering. The residents of Sidon and Arvad were your seamen. Your wise ones, O Tyre, were in you, they were your sailors. The elders of Gebal and her wise men were with you, reinforcing your seams. All the ships of the sea with their seamen were with you, to exchange your merchandise. Persia and Lud and Lydia were in your army, your men of war. They hung the shield and helmet in you; they set your splendor. The sons of Arvad and your army were on your walls all around, and warriors were in your towers. They hung their shields on your walls all around; they have made your beauty perfect. Tarshish was your merchant because of the multitude of your wealth; with silver, iron, tin, and lead, they gave for your wares. Javan, Tubal, and Meshech were your merchants. They traded the souls of men and vessels of bronze for your goods. From the house of Togarmah they gave horses and war-horses and mules for your wares. The sons of Dedan were your merchants; many coastlands were the traffic of your hand. They brought as your gift tusks of ivory and ebony. Syria was your merchant because of the multitude of your works; with emeralds, purple, and embroidered work, and fine linen, and coral, and rubies they gave for your wares. Judah and the land of Israel were your merchants with wheat from Minnith and Pannag, and honey, and oil, and balm, they gave for your goods. Damascus was your merchant in the multitude of your works, from the multitude of all riches, in the wine of Helbon, and white wool. Dan and Javan also, going about, gave for your wares; smooth iron, cassia, and cane were among your goods. Dedan was your merchant in loose cloths for riding. Arabia, and all the rulers of Kedar were traders of your hand, in lambs, and rams, and goats; in them was your trade. The merchants of Sheba and Raamah were your merchants, with the chief of all the spices, and with every precious stone, and gold they gave for your wares. Haran, and Canneh, and Eden, the merchants of Sheba, Asshur, Chilmad were your merchants. They were your merchants in perfect things, in violet cloth, and embroidered work, and in carpets of many colors, with tightly bound cords, and cedars among your merchandise. The ships of Tarshish were the travelers of your goods. And you were filled and made very glorious in the heart of the seas. Your rowers have made you come into great waters; the east wind has broken you in the heart of the seas. Your riches, and your wares, your goods, your seamen, and your sailors reinforcing your seams, and the traders of your goods, and all your men of war, who are in you, and all your company which is in your midst, shall fall into the heart of the seas in the day of your ruin. At the sound of the cry of your sailors the open lands will shake. And all who handle the oar, the mariners, all the sailors of the sea, shall come down from their ships. They shall stand on the land, and shall cause their voice to be heard against you, and shall cry bitterly, and shall throw dust on their heads. They shall wallow themselves in the ashes. And they will be bald for you, and gird with sackcloth. And they shall weep for you with bitterness of soul, a bitter wailing. And in their wailing they shall lift up a lamentation and lament over you, saying, Who is like Tyre; as she who is quiet in the midst of the sea? When your goods went out from the seas, you filled many people. With the plenty of your riches and your goods you enriched the kings of the earth. At this time you are broken by the seas, in the depths of the waters, your goods and all your company in your midst have fallen. All the residents of the coastlands are appalled at you, and their kings are horribly terrified; their faces tremble. The merchants among the peoples hiss at you; you have become terrors. And you shall not be forever.

Sheba and Dedan, and the merchants of Tarshish, with all their young lions, shall say to you, Have you come to take a spoil? Have you gathered your company to steal a prize, to carry away silver and gold, to take away cattle and goods, to take a great spoil?

But Jonah rose up to flee to Tarshish from the presence of Jehovah. And he went down to Joppa. And he found a ship going to Tarshish. And he gave its fare, and went down into it, in order to go with them to Tarshish, away from the sight of Jehovah. But Jehovah hurled a great wind into the sea, and there was a great storm in the sea, so that the ship was thought to be broken. Then the seamen were afraid, and each man cried to his god. And they threw out the ship's articles in the ship, into the sea in order to lighten it. But Jonah had gone down into the hold of the ship; and he lay there, and was fast asleep.

You have multiplied your merchants above the stars of heaven; the locust larvae shall strip off and fly away.

And your whoredom is idolatry in the land of Canaan, to the Chaldean, and yet you were not satisfied with this.

He plucked off the top of its young twigs and carried it into a land of traders. He set it in a city of merchants.

And every ship-pilot, and all the company on the ships, and sailors, and as many as work the sea, stood afar off. And they cried out, seeing the smoke of her burning, saying, What is like the great city? And they threw dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and mourning, saying, Woe! Woe to the great city, by which all who had ships in the sea were rich out of her costliness! For in one hour she was ruined. Rejoice over her, Heaven, and the holy apostles, and the prophets, since God judged your judgment on her. And one strong angel took up a stone like a great millstone and threw it into the sea, saying, So on an impulse the great city, Babylon, will be thrown down and not at all will be found any more. And the voice of harpers, and of musicians. and flutists, and of trumpeters will be heard no more at all in you. And every craftsman of any craft will not be found any more in you. And the sound of a mill will never more be heard at all in you. And the light of a lamp will never more shine at all in you. And the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride will never more be heard at all in you. For your merchants were the great ones of the earth; for by your sorceries all nations were deceived. And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all those who were slain on the earth.

And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great has fallen, has fallen! And it has become the dwelling-place of demons, and a prison of every unclean spirit, and a cage of every unclean bird which has been hated, because of the wine of the anger of her fornication which all the nations have drunk. And the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her. And the merchants of the earth became rich from the power of her luxury.

You shall do no unrighteousness in judgment, in measures and weights, or in quantity. You shall have just balances, just weights, a just ephah, and a just hin. I am Jehovah your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt.

You shall not have in your bag two kinds of weights, a great stone and a small. You shall not have in your house two kinds of measures, a great ephah and a small. You shall have a perfect and just weight, a perfect and just measure you shall have, so that your days may be lengthened in the land which Jehovah your God gives you.read more.
For all that do such things, all that do unrighteousness, are hateful to Jehovah your God.

False balances are hateful to Jehovah; but a just weight is His delight.

A just weight and balance are Jehovah's; all the weights of the bag are His work.

Different kinds of weights, different kinds of measures, both are hateful to Jehovah.

Hear this, you who trample the poor, even to make the humble of the land to fail, saying, When will the new moon be gone so that we may sell grain? And the sabbath, that we may set forth wheat, making the ephah small and the shekel great, and perverting the balances by deceit;

By the host of your iniquities, by the iniquity of your trade, you have profaned your holy places; so I brought a fire from your midst; it shall devour you, and I will give you for ashes on the earth, before the eyes of all who see you.

He is a merchant; the scales of deceit are in his hand; he loves to oppress.

Are the treasures of wickedness still in the house of the wicked, and the short measure that is hateful? Shall I count those with the wicked scales pure, and those with the bag of deceitful weights?

giving back his gain, and he will not eat. As to the wealth of his trading, even he shall not enjoy it. For he pressed down and forsook the poor; he stole a house, but he had not built it.

By the multitude of your goods they have filled your midst with violence, and you have sinned. So I cast you profaned from the height of God, and I destroy you, O covering cherub, from among the stones of fire.

Come now, those saying, Today or tomorrow we will go into such a city and spend a year there, and we will trade and will make a profit, who do not know of the morrow. For what is your life? For it is a vapor, which appears for a little time, and then disappears. Instead of you saying, If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.read more.
But now you boast in your presumptions. All such boasting is evil.

By your great wisdom and by your trade you have multiplied your riches, and your heart is lifted up because of your riches.

For the day of Jehovah of Hosts shall be on every proud and lofty one, and on every lifted up one; and he shall be brought low,

And it will be, after the end of seventy years Jehovah will visit Tyre, and she shall turn to her hire and shall commit fornication with all the kingdoms of the world on the face of the earth. And her goods and her wages shall be holiness to Jehovah. It shall not be treasured nor laid up, for her goods shall be for those who dwell before Jehovah, to eat enough, and for a choice covering.

And if the people of the land should bring goods or any food on the Sabbath day to sell it, that we would not buy it from them on the Sabbath or on the holy day, and that we would leave the seventh year, and the interest of every debt.

In those days I saw in Judah some treading winepresses on the Sabbath, and bringing in sheaves, and loading asses and also wine, grapes, and figs, and all kinds of burdens which they brought into Jerusalem on the Sabbath day. And I testified against them in the day in which they sold food. And men of Tyre lived in it, who brought fish and all kinds of goods, and sold on the Sabbath to the sons of Judah and in Jerusalem. And I contended with the nobles of Judah and said to them, What evil thing is this that you do, and defile the Sabbath day?read more.
Did not your fathers do this, and did not our God bring all this evil upon us and upon this city? Yet you bring more wrath upon Israel by defiling the Sabbath. And it happened when the gates of Jerusalem began to be dark before the Sabbath, I commanded that the gates should be shut, and commanded that they should not be opened until after the Sabbath. And I set some of my servants at the gates, so that there should be no burden brought in on the Sabbath day. that we may buy the poor for silver and the needy for a pair of sandals; and sell the chaff of the wheat?

for fornicators, for homosexuals, for slave-traders, for liars, for perjurers, and anything else that is contrary to sound doctrine,

and cinnamon, and incenses, and ointment, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour and wheat, and beasts, and sheep, and horses, and chariots, and slaves, and souls of men.

And they have cast lots for My people, and have given a boy for a prostitute, and sold a girl for wine, so that they might drink.

Again, the kingdom of Heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls; who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.

Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.

For it is as if a man going abroad called his own servants and gave them his goods. And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to each according to his ability. And he went abroad at once. And going he who had received the five talents traded with them, and made another five talents.read more.

for you are bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's.
