True is the saying, and worthy of all acceptance. For to this end we both labor and suffer reproach, because we have placed our hope in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, especially of believers.

He that is faithful in that which is least, is faithful also in much; and he that is unjust in the least, is unjust also in much. If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches? and if ye have not been faithful in that which is anothers, who will give you that which is your own?

Deacons in like manner must be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of base gain,

but cleaving to truth in love, may grow up in all things unto him who is the head, even Christ;

but he that knew not and did things worthy of stripes, will be beaten with few. And from every one to whom much hath been given, will much be required; and to whom much hath been entrusted, of him will the more be demanded.

For it will be as when a man going abroad called his own servants, and intrusted to them his property; and to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his ability, and went abroad. In like manner, he that had received the two gained two more. But he that had received the one went and dug in the earth, and hid his lords money. And after a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them. His lord said to him, Well done, good and faithful servant! thou hast been faithful over a little, I will place thee in charge of much; enter into the joy of thy lord. Then he also that had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee to be a hard man, reaping where thou didst not sow, and gathering where thou didst not scatter seed; and I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth. See! thou hast thine own. But his lord answered and said to him, Wicked and slothful servant! Didst thou know that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I did not scatter seed? Thou oughtest then to have put my money with the moneydealers, and on my coming I should have received mine own with interest.

He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return. And he called his ten servants, and gave them ten pounds, and said to them, Trade with these, till I come. But his citizens hated him, and sent an embassy after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us.read more.
And it came to pass, when he had returned, having received the kingdom, that he commanded these servants to whom he had given the money to be called to him, that he might know what each had gained by trading. And the first came, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained ten pounds. And he said to him, Well done, good servant! because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have authority over ten cities. And the second came, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained five pounds. And he said also to this servant, And be thou over five cities. And another came, saying, Lord, behold thy pound, which I have kept laid up in a napkin. For I feared thee, because thou art a harsh man; thou takest up what thou didst not lay down, and reapest what thou didst not sow. He saith to him, Out of thy mouth will I judge thee, wicked servant! thou knewest that I was a harsh man, taking up what I laid not down, and reaping what I did not sow; why then didst thou not put my money into a bank? Then I at my coming might have received it back with interest.

Let a man so account us, as servants of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God. Here moreover, it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.

For if I do this willingly, I have a reward; but if unwillingly, still I have been intrusted with a stewardship.

O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding the profane babblings, and oppositions of the falselycalled knowledge;

the good trust committed to thee keep through the Holy Spirit which dwelleth in us.

tend the flock of God which is among you, overseeing it, not by constraint, but willingly; not for base gain, but with ready mind; not as lording it over your allotted charge, but being examples to the flock;

The women in like manner must be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things.

For a bishop must be without reproach, as Gods steward; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, not a striker, not greedy of base gain,
