But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except on the ground of unchastity, makes her an adulteress, and whoever marries her when so divorced, commits adultery.
Presently some of the Pharisees came up to him, and made test of him by asking, "Is it right for a man to divorce his wife for every cause?"
But to those already married my commandment is??nd not mine, but the Lord's??hat a wife is not to leave her husband;
"Have you not read." he answered, "that He who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, "For this cause shall a man leave his father and his mother and shall cleave to his wife; and the two shall be one flesh? "Thus they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate."
To the rest it is I who am speaking, not the Lord. If any brother has a wife who is not a believer, if he is willing to live with her, let him not send her away. And a woman whose husband is not a believer, if he is willing to live with her, let her not separate from him. For the unbelieving husband is consecrated through union with his believing wife; and the unbelieving wife, through union with her believing husband. Otherwise your children would be unholy, but now they are consecrated to God.

What therefore God has joined together, let not man put asunder."
(or if she has already left him let her either remain as she is, or be reconciled to him), and also that a husband is not to put away his wife.
"Every man who divorces his wife and marries some one else, commits adultery; and he who marries one who is put away by her husband commits adultery.
"Any man who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her; and if she divorces her husband and marries another man, she commits adultery."
For this cause shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
For a married woman who has a husband is bound by law to her husband during his lifetime; but if her husband dies, she is released from the law of her husband. So then, if during her husband lifetime, she unites herself with another man, she will be counted an adulteress; but if her husband dies, she is free from the Law, so that she is no adulteress, even if she unites herself with another man.
"Moses," said Jesus, "permitted you to divorce your wives on account of the hardness of your hearts, but from the beginning it was not so.
A wife is bound to her husband during his lifetime; but if her husband dies, she is free to marry whomever she will, provided it be in the Lord.
But Jesus said to them. "Moses gave you that command because of the hardness of your hearts;
"And I tell you that any man who divorces his wife for any cause except her unfaithfulness, and marries another woman, commits adultery."
But if the unbelieving partner be determined to leave, separation let it be. In such cases the believing husband or wife is not under bondage. But it is into peace that God has called us.
