'Desolation' in the Bible
Your land is desolate,your cities burned with fire;foreigners devour your fieldsbefore your very eyes—a desolation demolished by foreigners.
The Daughter of Zion (Jerusalem) is left like a [deserted] shelter in a vineyard,Like a watchman’s hut in a cucumber field, like a besieged city [isolated, surrounded by devastation].
By the weapons of Jehovah of Hosts Do not many houses a desolation become? Great and good without inhabitant!
And I say, 'Till when, O Lord?' And He saith, 'Surely till cities have been wasted without inhabitant, And houses without man, And the ground be wasted -- a desolation,
Now in that day [because of the poverty caused by the invaders] a man will keep alive only a young milk cow and two sheep;
And what will ye do in the day of visitation, and in the desolation which shall come from far? to whom will ye flee for help? and where will ye leave your glory?
Look, the day of the Lord is coming—cruel, with rage and burning anger—to make the earth a desolationand to destroy the sinners on it.
In that day shall his strong cities be as a forsaken bough, and an uppermost branch, which they left because of the children of Israel: and there shall be desolation.
In the city is left desolation, and the gate is smitten with destruction.
This desolation will continue until new life is poured out on us from heaven. Then the desert will become an orchard and the orchard will be considered a forest.
But pelican and hedgehog will possess it,And owl and raven will dwell in it;And He will stretch over it the line of desolationAnd the plumb line of emptiness.
Therefore shall evil come upon thee; thou shalt not know from whence it riseth: and mischief shall fall upon thee; thou shalt not be able to put it off: and desolation shall come upon thee suddenly, which thou shalt not know.
These two things are come unto thee; who shall be sorry for thee? desolation, and destruction, and the famine, and the sword: by whom shall I comfort thee?
Their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed innocent blood: their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; desolation and destruction are in their paths.
Violence shall no more be heard in thy land, desolation nor destruction within thy borders; but thou shalt call thy walls Salvation, and thy gates Praise.
It shall no longer be said of you, "Forsaken," and it shall no longer be said of your land, "Desolation!" but {you will} be called "My Delight [Is] In Her," and your land, "Married," for Yahweh delights in you, and your land shall be married.
