'Grievous' in the Bible

He named him Noah, saying, “This one shall bring us rest and comfort from our work and from the [dreadful] toil of our hands because of the ground which the Lord cursed.”

And there was a famine in the land: and Abram went down into Egypt to sojourn there; for the famine was grievous in the land.

And the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous;

And the thing was very grievous in Abraham's sight because of his son.

And God said unto Abraham, Let it not be grievous in thy sight because of the lad, and because of thy bondwoman; in all that Sarah hath said unto thee, hearken unto her voice; for in Isaac shall thy seed be called.

And the plenty shall not be known in the land by reason of that famine following; for it shall be very grievous.

And the famine was on all the earth. And Joseph opened every place in which there was provision, and sold grain to the Egyptians; and the famine was grievous in the land of Egypt.

And there is no bread in all the land, for the famine is very grievous, and the land of Egypt and the land of Canaan are feeble because of the famine;

a man to whom God gives wealth, riches, and honor, so that he lacks none of his heart's desires but God does not give him the capability to enjoy them. Instead, a stranger consumes them. This is pointless and a grievous affliction.

Do I not -- as I have done to Samaria, And to her worthless things, So do to Jerusalem and to her grievous things?

Grievous hath been the sword in his cities, And it hath ended his bars, and consumed -- from their own counsels.

And it is grievous unto Jonah -- a great evil -- and he is displeased at it;

Get up and leave,for this is not your place of rest,because defilement brings destruction—a grievous destruction!

Therefore I also have smitten thee with a grievous wound; I have made thee desolate because of thy sins.

There is no healing of thy bruise; thy wound is grievous: all that hear the bruit of thee shall clap the hands over thee: for upon whom hath not thy wickedness passed continually?
