'Persecute' in the Bible

The Lord your God will inflict all these curses on your enemies and on those who hate you, who have persecuted you.

“Why do you persecute me as God does?Why are you not satisfied with my flesh (anguish)?

“If you say, ‘How shall we [continue to] persecute him?’And ‘What pretext for a case against him can we find [since we claim the root of these afflictions is found in him]?’

“You have become harsh and cruel to me;With the might of Your hand You [keep me alive only to] persecute me.

O Lord my God, in You I take refuge;Save me and rescue me from all those who pursue me,

In pride and arrogance the wicked hotly pursue and persecute the afflicted;Let them be caught in the plots which they have devised.

My times are in Your hands;Rescue me from the hand of my enemies and from those who pursue and persecute me.

Draw also the spear and javelin to meet those who pursue me.Say to my soul, “I am your salvation.”

Because of the voice of the enemy,Because of the pressure of the wicked;For they bring down trouble on me,And in anger they persecute me.

For they have persecuted him whom You have struck,And they tell of the pain of those whom You have pierced and wounded.

Saying, “God has abandoned him;Pursue and seize him, for there is no one to rescue him.”

How many are the days of Your servant [which he must endure]?When will You execute judgment on those who persecute me?

All Your commandments are faithful and trustworthy.They have persecuted me with a lie; help me [Lord]!

Those who follow after wickedness approach;They are far from Your law.

Shin.Princes persecute me without cause,But my heart stands in [reverent] awe of Your words [so I can expect You to help me].

Let those who persecute me be shamed, but as for me, protect me from shame;Let them lose courage, but let me be undaunted.Bring on them a day of tragedy,And destroy them with double destruction!

“Blessed [morally courageous and spiritually alive with life-joy in God’s goodness] are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil things against you because of [your association with] Me.

But I say to you, love [that is, unselfishly seek the best or higher good for] your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,

“When they persecute you in one city [because of your faith in Me], flee to the next; for I assure you and most solemnly say to you, you will not finish going through all the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes.

“Therefore, take notice, I am sending you prophets and wise men [interpreters, teachers] and scribes [men educated in the Mosaic Law and the writings of the prophets]; some of them you will kill and even crucify, and some you will flog in your synagogues, and pursue and persecute from city to city,

For this reason also the wisdom of God said [in the Scriptures], ‘I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will put to death and some they will persecute,

“But before all these things, they will lay their hands on you and will persecute you, turning you over to the synagogues and prisons, and bringing you before kings and governors for My name’s sake.

For this reason the Jews began to persecute Jesus continually because He was doing these things on the Sabbath.

Remember [and continue to remember] that I told you, ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. If they kept My word, they will keep yours also.

Which one of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? They killed those who proclaimed beforehand the coming of the Righteous One, whose betrayers and murderers you have now become;

And I fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to me, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?’

And when we all had fallen to the ground, I heard a voice in the Hebrew dialect (Jewish Aramaic) saying to me, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me? It is hard for you to kick [repeatedly] against the goads [offering pointless resistance].’

Bless those who persecute you [who cause you harm or hardship]; bless and do not curse [them].

they only kept hearing, “He who used to persecute us is now preaching the [good news of the] faith which he once was trying to destroy.”
