but for Cain and his offering He had no respect. So Cain became extremely angry (indignant), and he looked annoyed and hostile.

And I will grant this people favor and respect in the sight of the Egyptians; therefore, it shall be that when you go, you will not go empty-handed.

“I will not [I warn you] be partial to any man [that is, let my respect for you mitigate what I say];Nor flatter any man.

Because of Your temple at Jerusalem[Pagan] kings will bring gifts to You [out of respect].

Then I will not be ashamedWhen I look [with respect] to all Your commandments [as my guide].

I will meditate on Your preceptsAnd [thoughtfully] regard Your ways [the path of life established by Your precepts].

Though the Lord is exalted,He regards the lowly [and invites them into His fellowship];But the proud and haughty He knows from a distance.

To show respect to the wicked person is not good,Nor to push aside and deprive the righteous of justice.

These also are sayings of the wise:To show partiality in judgment is not good.

To have regard for one person over another and to show favoritism is not good,Because for a piece of bread a man will transgress.

And he will not have regard for the [idolatrous] altars, the work of his hands,Nor will he look to that which his fingers have made,Neither the Asherim (symbols of the goddess Asherah) nor the incense altars.

“From Egypt also you will come away [as captives]With your hands on your head;For the Lord has rejected those in whom you trust (confide),And you will not be successful with them.”

The presence of the Lord scattered them [among the nations];He will not continue to look after them.They did not honor the priests;They did not favor the elders.
