'Sleep' in the Bible
But Joseph, having awoke up from his sleep, did as the angel of the Lord had enjoined him, and took to him his wife,
Then he comes to the disciples and says to them, Sleep on now and take your rest; behold, the hour has drawn nigh, and the Son of man is delivered up into the hands of sinners.
and should sleep and rise up night and day, and the seed should sprout and grow, he does not know how.
And he comes and finds them sleeping. And he says to Peter, Simon, dost thou sleep? Hast thou not been able to watch one hour?
And he comes the third time and says to them, Sleep on now, and take your rest. It is enough; the hour is come; behold, the Son of man is delivered up into the hands of sinners.
But Peter and those with him were oppressed with sleep: but having fully awoke up they saw his glory, and the two men who stood with him.
And he said to them, Why sleep ye? rise up and pray that ye enter not into temptation.
These things said he; and after this he says to them, Lazarus, our friend, is fallen asleep, but I go that I may awake him out of sleep.
But Jesus spoke of his death, but they thought that he spoke of the rest of sleep.
And the jailor being awakened out of his sleep, and seeing the doors of the prison opened, having drawn a sword was going to kill himself, thinking the prisoners had fled.
And a certain youth, by name Eutychus, sitting at the window-opening, overpowered by deep sleep, while Paul discoursed very much at length, having been overpowered by the sleep, fell from the third story down to the bottom, and was taken up dead.
This also, knowing the time, that it is already time that we should be aroused out of sleep; for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.
So then do not let us sleep as the rest do, but let us watch and be sober;
for they that sleep sleep by night, and they that drink drink by night;
who has died for us, that whether we may be watching or sleep, we may live together with him.
