He is despised and left alone of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief, and like one from whom men hide their faces; despised, and we esteemed him not. On this account the Father loves me, because I lay down my life that I may take it again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have authority to lay it down and I have authority to take it again. I have received this commandment of my Father.

for we being still without strength, in the due time Christ has died for the ungodly. For scarcely for the just man will one die, for perhaps for the good man some one might also dare to die; but God commends his love to us, in that, we being still sinners, Christ has died for us.

regarding not each his own qualities, but each those of others also. For let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus;

let nothing be in the spirit of strife or vain glory, but, in lowliness of mind, each esteeming the other as more excellent than themselves;

Have the same respect one for another, not minding high things, but going along with the lowly: be not wise in your own eyes:

Bear one another's burdens, and thus fulfil the law of the Christ. For if any man reputes himself to be something, being nothing, he deceives himself;

And there were some indignant in themselves, and saying, Why has this waste been made of the ointment? for this ointment could have been sold for more than three hundred denarii and given to the poor. Receive him therefore in the Lord with all joy, and hold such in honour; because for the sake of the work he drew near even to death, venturing his life that he might fill up what lacked in your ministration toward me.

Give no occasion to stumbling, whether to Jews, or Greeks, or the assembly of God. Even as I also please all in all things; not seeking my own profit, but that of the many, that they may be saved.

Be my imitators, even as I also am of Christ.
