'Thinking' in the Bible
But Jesus, knowing what they were thinking, replied, "Why do you have such evil thoughts in your hearts?
He knew what they were thinking and told them, "Every kingdom divided against itself is destroyed, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand.
But Jesus turned and told Peter, "Get behind me, Satan! You are an offense to me, because you are not thinking God's thoughts but human thoughts!"
Finally, he sent his son to them, thinking, "They will respect my son.'
Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. But turning and looking at his disciples, Jesus rebuked Peter, saying, "Get behind me, Satan, because you're not thinking God's thoughts, but human thoughts!"
Everyone who heard about it kept thinking what had happened and asked, "What will this child become?" because it was obvious that the hand of the Lord was with him.
But Jesus knew what they were thinking. So he told the man with the paralyzed hand, "Get up, and stand in the middle of the synagogue." So he got up and stood there.
Since he knew what they were thinking, he told them, "Every kingdom divided against itself is devastated, and a divided household collapses.
Jesus also told this parable to some people who trusted in themselves, thinking they were righteous, but who looked down on everyone else:
They were startled and terrified, thinking they were seeing a ghost.
When the Jews who had been with her, consoling her in the house, saw Mary get up quickly and go out, they followed her, thinking that she had gone to the tomb to cry there.

If they had been thinking about what they had left behind, they would have had an opportunity to go back.
