Or if the person is a female, then your valuation shall be thirty shekels.

so that you do not act corruptly and make for yourselves a carved or sculpted image [to worship] in the form of any figure, the likeness of male or female,

So they abandoned the Lord and served Baal [the pagan god of the Canaanites] and the Ashtaroth.
