'Thief' in the Bible
If a thief is caught in the act of breaking in, and he is beaten to death, no one is guilty of bloodshed.
But if this happens after sunrise, there is guilt of bloodshed. A thief must make full restitution. If he is unable, he is to be sold because of his theft.
“When a man gives his neighbor money or goods to keep, but they are stolen from that person’s house, the thief, if caught, must repay double.
If the thief is not caught, the owner of the house must present himself to the judges to determine whether or not he has taken his neighbor’s property.
The murderer rises at dawnto kill the poor and needy,and by night he becomes a thief.
When you see a thief,you make friends with him,and you associate with adulterers.
People don’t despise the thief if he stealsto satisfy himself when he is hungry.
Like the shame of a thief when he is caught,so the house of Israel has been put to shame.They, their kings, their officials,their priests, and their prophets
when I heal Israel,the sins of Ephraim and the crimes of Samariawill be exposed.For they practice fraud;a thief breaks in;a raiding party pillages outside.
Then he said to me, “This is the curse that is going out over the whole land, for every thief will be removed according to what is written on one side, and everyone who swears falsely will be removed according to what is written on the other side.
I will send it out,”—this is the declaration of the Lord of Hosts—“and it will enter the house of the thief and the house of the one who swears falsely by My name. It will stay inside his house and destroy it along with its timbers and stones.”
But know this: If the homeowner had known what time the thief was coming, he would have stayed alert and not let his house be broken into.
Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Make money-bags for yourselves that won’t grow old, an inexhaustible treasure in heaven, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys.

“I assure you: Anyone who doesn’t enter the sheep pen by the door but climbs in some other way, is a thief and a robber.
A thief comes only to steal and to kill and to destroy. I have come so that they may have life and have it in abundance.
He didn’t say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief. He was in charge of the money-bag and would steal part of what was put in it.
The thief must no longer steal. Instead, he must do honest work with his own hands, so that he has something to share with anyone in need.
For you yourselves know very well that the Day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night.
But you, brothers, are not in the dark, for this day to overtake you like a thief.
None of you, however, should suffer as a murderer, a thief, an evildoer, or a meddler.
But the Day of the Lord will come like a thief; on that day the heavens will pass away with a loud noise, the elements will burn and be dissolved, and the earth and the works on it will be disclosed.
Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; keep it, and repent. But if you are not alert, I will come like a thief, and you have no idea at what hour I will come against you.
“Look, I am coming like a thief. The one who is alert and remains clothed so that he may not go around naked and people see his shame is blessed.”
