But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowls of the heavens, and they shall show thee; or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee; the fishes of the sea shall declare it unto thee also. What thing of all these does not know that the hand of the LORD made them? read more.
In his hand is the soul of every living thing and the spirit of all flesh of man. Certainly the ear proves words and the mouth tastes foods. With the ancient is wisdom; and in length of days intelligence. With him is wisdom and strength; he has counsel and intelligence. Behold, he shall break down, and it shall not be built again; he shall shut up a man, and no one shall be able to open unto him. Behold, he shall withhold the waters, and they shall dry up; also he shall send them forth, and they shall destroy the earth. With him is strength and existence; he who errs and he who leads astray are his. He causes the counsellors to walk away stripped of counsel and makes the judges to be fools. He looses the bond of kings and girds their loins with a girdle. He leads priests away spoiled and overthrows the mighty. He impedes the lips of those that speak the truth and takes away the counsel of the aged. He pours contempt upon princes and weakens the strength of the mighty. He uncovers the depths of the darkness and brings out to light the shadow of death. He multiplies the Gentiles and destroys them; he scatters the Gentiles and gathers them again. He takes away the heart of the heads of the people of the earth and causes them to become lost, wandering without a way. They grope in the darkness and not the light, and he causes them to err like drunken men.

because that which is known of God is manifest to them; for God has showed it unto them. For the invisible things of him, his eternal power and divinity, are clearly understood by the creation of the world and by the things that are made so that there is no excuse;

LORD, when thy hand is withdrawn, they will not see: but they shall see in the end and be ashamed with the zeal of the people. And fire shall consume thine enemies.

because that which is known of God is manifest to them; for God has showed it unto them. For the invisible things of him, his eternal power and divinity, are clearly understood by the creation of the world and by the things that are made so that there is no excuse; because having known God, they did not glorify him as God, neither were thankful, but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

Therefore, thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest; for in that which thou dost judge another, thou dost condemn thyself; for thou that judgest others doest the same things.

If I had not come and spoken unto them, they would not have sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin.

And some of them believed and consorted with Paul and Silas; and of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and of the noble women not a few.

This I say, therefore, and require in the Lord that from now on ye not walk as the other Gentiles walk in the vanity of their own senses, having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them because of the blindness of their heart, who, after losing all sense of feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness to work all uncleanness with greediness.

Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, With what shall we be clothed? For the Gentiles seek after all these things.) For your heavenly Father knows that ye have need of all these things.

But I say that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons, and not to God; and I would not that ye should be participants of demons.

Thus hath the LORD said, Do not learn the way of the Gentiles, and do not fear the signs of heaven, even though the Gentiles fear them. For the customs of the peoples are vanity: for one cuts a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.

But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions as the worldly do, for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. Be not ye therefore like unto them, for your Father knows what things ye have need of before ye ask him.

who in generations past suffered all the Gentiles to walk in their own ways.

Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred in him when he saw the city completely given over to idolatry. Therefore he disputed in the synagogue with the Jews and with the devout persons and in the market daily with those that he met with.

Then Paul stood in the midst of the Areopagus, , and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious. For as I passed by and beheld your sanctuaries, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him I declare unto you. The God that made the world and all the things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands; read more.
neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he gives to all life and breath and all things and has made of one blood all the lineage of men to dwell on all the face of the earth and has determined the seasons (which he has limited) and the bounds of their habitation; that they should seek the Lord, if in any manner they might reach out to touch him and find him though he is not far from each one of us;

because having known God, they did not glorify him as God, neither were thankful, but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for the likeness of an image of corruptible man and of birds and of fourfooted beasts and of serpents. Therefore God also gave them over to the lusts of their own hearts for uncleanness, to contaminate their own bodies between themselves, who changed the truth of God into a lie and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed for all ages. Amen. For this cause God gave them up unto shameful affections, for even their women changed the natural use into that which is against nature; and likewise also the males, leaving the natural use of the females, burned in their lust one toward another, males with males committing nefarious works and receiving in themselves the recompense that proceeded from their error. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a perverse understanding, to do those things which are not convenient, being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, implacable, without mercy. Who having understood the righteousness of God, they did not understand that those who do such things are worthy of death, not only those that do the same, but even those who encourage those that do them.

Therefore, thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest; for in that which thou dost judge another, thou dost condemn thyself; for thou that judgest others doest the same things. For we are sure that the judgment of God is according to the truth against those who do such things. And dost thou think this, O man, that judgest those who do such things and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God? read more.
Or dost thou despise the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering, ignoring that the goodness of God leads thee to repentance? But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasures up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, who will render to everyone according to his deeds: to those who persevered in well doing, glory and honour and incorruption, to those who seek eternal life; but unto those that are contentious and do not obey the truth, but are persuaded by unrighteousness, indignation and wrath. Tribulation and anguish shall be upon every human soul that does evil, the Jew first and also the Greek; but glory, honour, and peace to everyone that works good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For there is no respect of persons with God. For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law, and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law (for not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified; for when the Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature that which is of the law, these, not having the law, are a law unto themselves; which show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, accusing and also excusing their reasonings one with another)

Ye know that when ye were Gentiles, ye went, even as ye were led, unto the dumb idols.

We who are Jews by nature, and not sinners of the Gentiles,

For it should suffice us that during the time past of our life we had done the will of the Gentiles, when we conversed in lasciviousness, lusts, drunkenness, gluttony, orgies, and abominable idolatries. And it seems strange to those that speak evil of you, that ye do not run with them to the same unchecked dissolution;

but hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before thee, and thou and thy princes, thy wives and thy concubines, have drunk wine in them; furthermore, thou hast praised gods of silver and of gold, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone, which do not see, nor hear, nor know; and the God in whose hand is thy soul and whose are all thy ways, thou hast never honoured. Then from his presence was sent the palm of the hand that sculpted this writing. And the writing that he sculpted is, MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN. read more.
This is the interpretation of the thing: MENE; God has audited thy kingdom and finished it. TEKEL; Thou art weighed in the balances and art found wanting. PERES; Thy kingdom has been broken and is given to the Medes and Persians. Then Belshazzar commanded, and they clothed Daniel with purple and put a chain of gold about his neck and made a proclamation concerning him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom. That same night Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans was slain. And Darius the Median took the kingdom, being sixty-two years old.

But no one shall say, Where is God my maker, who gives songs in the night; who teaches us more than the beasts of the earth and makes us wiser than the fowls of heaven? There they shall cry, but he shall give no answer because of the pride of those that are evil.

The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows the work of his hands. One day provides a word for the next day, and one night declares wisdom unto the next night. There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard. read more.
Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them he has set a tabernacle for the sun, which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber and rejoices as a strong man to run a race. But not everyone hearkens unto the gospel. For Isaiah says, Lord, who has believed our report? So then faith comes by hearing, and the ear to hear by the word of God. But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their fame went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world.

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of the Christ; for it is the power of God to give saving health to every one that believes: to the Jew first and also to the Greek. Through the wrath of the LORD of the hosts the land is darkened, and the people shall be as the fuel of the fire; no man shall spare his brother. And he shall snatch on the right hand and be hungry, and he shall eat on the left hand, and they shall not be satisfied; they shall eat each man the flesh of his own arm: Manasseh, Ephraim; and Ephraim, Manasseh; and they together shall be against Judah.
