Thou sittest and speakest against thy brother, yea and slanderest thine own mother's son.

The north wind driveth away the rain, even so doth an earnest sober countenance a backbiter's tongue.

And as it seemed not good unto them to be a known of God, even so God delivered them up unto a lewd mind, that they should do those things which were not comely, being full of all unrighteous doing: of fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness, full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, evil-conditioned whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, doers of wrong, proud, boasters, bringers-up of evil things, disobedient to fathers and mothers,

Who so privily slandereth his neighbour, him will I destroy. Whoso hath also a proud look and high stomach, I will not suffer him.

{A Psalm of David} Lord, who shall dwell in thy tabernacle? Who shall rest upon thy holy hill? Even he that leadeth an uncorrupt life, and doeth the thing which is right, and speaketh the truth from his heart. Wherefore, lay aside all maliciousness, and all guile, and dissimulation, and envy, and all backbiting:

Backbite not one another, brethren. He that backbiteth his brother, and he that judgeth his brother, backbiteth the law, and judgeth the law: but and if thou judge the law, thou art not an observer of the law: but a judge.

Whoso covereth another man's offense, seeketh love; but he that discloseth the fault, setteth friends at variance.

A froward body causeth strife; and he that is a babble of his tongue, maketh division among princes.

Wherefore, dear brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to wrath.

Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips, that they speak no guile.

But now put ye also away from you all things; wrath, fierceness, maliciousness, cursed speaking, filthy speaking out of your mouths.

If ye bite and devour one another: take heed lest ye be consumed one of another.

Thou shalt not accept a vain tale, neither shalt put thine hand with the wicked to be an unrighteous witness.

For in many things we sin all. If a man sin not in word, the same is a perfect man and able to tame all the body.

and see that ye have honest conversation among the gentiles, that they which backbite you as evil doers, may see your good works and praise God in the day of visitation.

A dissembling person will discover privy things; but he that is of a faithful heart, will keep counsel.

And I heard a loud voice saying, "In heaven is now made salvation and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: For he is cast down which accused them before God day and night:

neither filthiness, neither foolish talking, neither jestings, which are not comely: but rather giving of thanks.

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, which giveth to all men indifferently and casteth no man in the teeth; and it shall be given him.

Even so must their wives be honest, not evil speakers: but sober, and faithful in all things.

We are evil spoken of, and we pray. We are made as it were the filthiness of the world, the offscouring of all things, even unto this time.

having a good conscience, that when they backbite you as evil doers, they may be ashamed, forasmuch as they have falsely accused your good conversation in Christ.

A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good. And an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart, bringeth forth that which is evil. For of the abundance of the heart, his mouth speaketh.

He that keepeth his mouth, keepeth his life; but whoso speaketh unadvised, findeth harm.

Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue; the same keepeth his soul from troubles.
