We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because your faith groweth exceedingly, and the love of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth.
Meditate on these things; be wholly in them, that thy profiting may appear in all things.
For this very reason giving all diligence, add to your faith courage, and to courage knowledge, And to knowledge temperance, and to temperance patience, and to patience godliness, And to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love.
Abide in me and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abide in the vine, so neither can ye, unless ye abide in me.
But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, who is the head, even Christ:
I exhort you therefore, brethren, by the tender mercies of God, to present your bodies unto God, a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God.
But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the desires thereof.
Be ye followers of me, as I also am of Christ.
For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ, have put on Christ.
That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable to his death:
And ye became imitators of us and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost.
For even hereunto are ye called; for Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that ye might follow his steps:
He that saith, he abideth in him, ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.
I have written to you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written to you young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.
Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing; but the flesh is weak.
Withdraw not from each other, unless it be by consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to prayer, and may come together again, lest Satan tempt you through your incontinence.
There hath no temptation taken you, but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above your ability, but will with the temptation make also a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
Therefore when I could bear no longer, I sent to know your faith, left by any means the tempter should have tempted you, and our labour be in vain.
For in that he hath suffered, being tempted himself, he is able to succour them that are tempted.
My brethren, count it all joy, when ye fall into divers temptations, Knowing that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have it's perfect work,
Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee, from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon the whole world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.
Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which thou art called, and hast confessed the good confession before many witnesses.
If ye endure chastning, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he, whom his father chastneth not? But if ye are without chastning, of which all are partakers, then are ye bastards and not sons. Moreover we have had fathers of our flesh who corrected us, and we reverenced them: Shall we not much rather be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live?read more.
For they, verily, for a few days chastned us as they thought good: but he for our profit, that we may be partakers of his holiness. Now all chastning for the present is assuredly not joyous, but grievous; yet afterwards it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness to them that are exercised thereby.
I counsel thee to buy of me gold purified in the fire, that thou mayst be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayst be clothed, and the shame of thy nakedness may not appear; and eye-salve to anoint thine eyes, that thou mayst see. Whomsoever I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous and repent.
Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, acquit yourselves like men; be strong.
Finally, brethren, be strong through the Lord, and through the power of his might.
Thou therefore, my son, be strong through the grace which is by Jesus Christ.
And be not drunken with wine,
I say then, walk by the Spirit, and fulfil not the desire of the flesh. For the flesh desireth against the Spirit, but the Spirit desireth against the flesh (these are contrary to each other) that ye may not do the things which ye would. But if ye are led by the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
For our gospel came not to you in word only, but also with power, and with the Holy Ghost, and with much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you, for your sake.
I charge thee therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the quick and dead at his appearing and his kingdom, Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; convince, rebuke, exhort, with all long-suffering and teaching. For the time will come, when they will not endure sound doctrine, but will heap to themselves teachers, according to their own desires, having itching ears.
For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again, which are the first principles of the oracles of God, and are become such as have need of milk and not of strong meat.
and all evil-speakings, As new born babes desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:
And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the deserts, till the day of his being shewn to Israel.
