But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, who is the head, even Christ:

But he that knew not, and did things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few. For to whomsoever much is given, of him much shall be required; and to whom they have committed much, of him they will ask the more.

Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the bankers, and at my coming I should have received my own with interest.

And having called ten of his servants, he gave them ten pounds, and said unto them, Trade till I come. And when he was returned, having received the kingdom, he commanded these servants to be called to him, to whom he had given the money, to know what each had gained by trading. Then came the first, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained ten pounds. And he said to him, Well done, good servant; because thou hast been faithful in a very little, be thou governor over ten cities. And the second came, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained five pounds. And he said to him likewise, Be thou also over five cities. And another came saying, Lord, behold thy pound, which I have kept laid up in a napkin. For I feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up what thou layest not down, and reapest what thou didst not sow. And he saith to him, Out of thy own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I am an austere man, taking up what I laid not down, and reaping what I did not sow. Wherefore then gavest thou not my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have received it with interest?

Let a man so account us, as servants of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God. Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.

If indeed I do this willingly, I have a reward; but if unwillingly, yet a dispensation is intrusted to me.

O Timotheus, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding prophane, empty babblings, and oppositions of knowledge falsely so called: Which some professing have erred from the faith.

The good thing which is committed to thee keep, through the Holy Spirit, who dwelleth in us.

Feed the flock of God which is among you, overseeing it not by constraint, but willingly, not for filthy gain, but of a ready mind, Neither as lording over the heritage, but being examples to the flock.

In like manner their wives must be serious, not slanderers, vigilant, faithful in all things.

For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not self-willed, not passionate, not given to wine, no striker, not desirous of filthy gain:
