A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of but one wife, sober, prudent, grave,
that ye may be blameless and inoffensive, the children of God without reproof, in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation; among whom ye shine as lights in the world,
to wit, if any one be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children, not accused of debauchery, or unruly. For a bishop must be blameless as the steward of God, not self-willed, not passionate, not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of sordid gain:
Thou, that boastest in the law, dost thou by transgression of the law dishonour God?
And many will follow their pernicious tenets, on whose account the way of truth will be reproached:
Blessed are ye when men shall hate you, and reject you, and reproach you, and cast out your name as infamous on account of the Son of man.
For to this end we both labour and suffer reproach, because we have hope in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, especially of the faithful.
partly, being made a public spectacle by reproaches and afflictions; and partly, as ye became associates of those who were so treated:
esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt, for he looked to the recompence of reward.
Let us then go out unto Him without the camp, bearing his reproach: for we have here no continuing city,
