among whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of the unbelieving, so that the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, doth not shine unto them:
in which ye formerly walked after the manner of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that still operates in the children of disobedience:
For our conflict is not with flesh and blood only, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the world and of the darkness of this age, against wicked spirits in heavenly places.
by which are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises; that by these ye may become partakers of a divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
For all that is in the world, the desire of the flesh, and the desire of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but of the world. And the world passeth away, and the desire of it: but he, that doth the will of God, abideth for ever.
Behold then what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the children of God: though for this reason the world knoweth us not, because it knew not Him.
But all these things are from God, who hath reconciled us to Himself by Jesus Christ, and made us ministers of the reconciliation; to declare, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing to them their trespasses, and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. We are therefore ambassadors for Christ, and as God exhorteth you by us, we intreat you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.
Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity to God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.
Love not the world, nor the things that are in the world; for if any one love the world to excess, the love of the Father is not in him.
I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. I do not pray that Thou wouldest take them out of the world, but that thou wouldest keep them from the evil. They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
And with many other words did he press and exhort them, saying, Save yourselves from this perverse generation.
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may experience what is the good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God.
and they, that use this world, as not abusing it: for the fashion of this world passeth away.
Be not unsuitably connected with infidels: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? or what communion hath light with darkness? what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath a believer with an infidel? and what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God: as God hath said, "I will dwell in them, and I will walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people."read more.
Wherefore, "come out from the midst of them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch no unclean thing," and I will receive you:
that ye may be blameless and inoffensive, the children of God without reproof, in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation; among whom ye shine as lights in the world,
Mind the things above, not those on the earth.
teaching us that denying ungodliness, and worldly desires, we should live soberly, and righteously, and piously in this present world;
Pure and uncorrupt religion before God and our Father is this, to take care of orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
as children of obedience, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts in your ignorance:
Dearly beloved, I exhort you as strangers and sojourners here, to abstain from carnal lusts, which war against the soul:
For the time past of our life is sufficient for us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, walking in lasciviousness, inordinate desires, excess of wine, revellings, drunkenness, and abominable idolatries:
Charge them, that are rich in this world, not to be high-minded nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who richly affords us all things for enjoyment: charge them to do good,
Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust corrupts, and where thieves break through and steal:
Then said Jesus to his disciples, Verily I tell you, that a rich man shall with difficulty enter into the kingdom of heaven:
And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, He said, How difficultly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God?
And He spake a parable to them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: and he reasoned within himself, saying, What shall I do? for I have not room to lay up my corn. And he said, This I will do: I will pull down my barns, and build larger ones; and there I will bestow all my products and my goods.read more.
And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast plenty of goods laid up for many years, take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night shall thy soul be required of thee; then whose shall those things be which thou hast provided? So is he that heapeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich towards God.
For what is a man profited, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be destroyed?
For what is a man profited, if he gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give as a ransom for his soul?
And he that received the seed among the thorns, is one that likewise heareth the word; but the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches choketh the word, and so it becometh unfruitful.

but when judged, we are chastened by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world.

Take heed to yourselves, least at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting and drunkenness, and the cares of life, and so that day should come upon you unawares:
for as in the days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, till the day that Noah entered into the ark, and knew not of it till the deluge came and took them all away; so shall be also the coming of the Son of man.
therefore be ye also ready; for the Son of man cometh at a season that ye think not of.
But of the times and seasons, brethren, ye have no need of my writing to you: for ye yourselves know full well, that the day of the Lord cometh like a thief in the night. And when they shall say, Peace and safety, then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.read more.
But ye, my brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should seize you as a thief: ye are all children of the light, and of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep like others, but let us watch and be sober: for they, that sleep, sleep in the night; and drunkards are drunk in the night: but let us, who are of the day, be sober; putting on the breast-plate of faith and love, and for an helmet the hope of salvation. For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to the obtaining of salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,
