Servants, be obedient to those who according to the flesh are your masters, with fear and trembling, in sincerity of your heart, as to Christ.

Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient servants you are his (voluntary) servants because you obey him? This could be obedience to sin with death in view or obedience to righteousness with holiness in view?

So you are no longer slaves but a son. And as a son God has made you an heir.

When you were servants of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness.

He who is called in the Lord, being a slave, is the Lord's freeman. Likewise also he who is called, being free, is Christ's slave.

They promise them freedom, while they are bondservants of corruption. A man is brought into bondage by one and enslaved by another.

Beware that you do not forget Jehovah, for he brought you out of Egypt your house of bondage.

Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia. She corresponds to the Jerusalem that now is. She is in bondage with her children.

Did we not say in Egypt: Leave us alone that we may serve the Egyptians? It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the desert.

Be free, and yet do not use your freedom for a covering for evil, but as servants of God.

The man who (carefully) brings up (pays close attention to) (nourishes) his servant from childhood will in the future have him become like his son.

Does the servant deserve thanks for obeying orders?

But I discipline my body, and bring it into subjection, so that after I have preached to others I will not be disqualified.

What if the slave loves his wife and children so much that he will not leave without them?

I have seen servants upon horses, and princes walking like servants upon the earth.
