Moses said to Aaron and to his sons Eleazar and Ithamar: Do not leave your hair uncombed or tear your clothes to show that you are in mourning. If you do you will die. For Jehovah will be angry with the whole community. But all other Israelites are allowed to mourn this death caused by the fire Jehovah sent.

Aaron answered: If I had eaten the sin offering today, would Jehovah have approved? The people presented their sin offering to Jehovah today. They brought their burnt offering, but still these terrible things have happened to me.

The living know that they will die! The dead do not know anything. They do not have any more reward. Their memory is forgotten. Their love, their hatred, and their envy, is now gone, perished! They do not share anything that is done under the sun.

For the grave cannot praise you, death cannot sing your praise. Those who go down to the pit cannot hope for your faithfulness.

for if you live according to flesh, you are about to die. If by the Spirit, you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them. They shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall rule as kings with him for the thousand years.

Now suppose this son has a son. The son sees all the sins that his father does. He is afraid, so he does not do such things. A great crowd of people followed. Many women cried and grieved over him. Jesus turned to them and said: Daughters of Jerusalem do not weep for me but weep for yourselves and for your children. We are indeed justly condemned for we receive the due reward of our deeds. But this man has done nothing wrong. He said: Jesus, remember me when you come in your kingdom. He replied: Today I tell you this. You will be with me in paradise. It was about the sixth hour. Darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour. The sun failed to shine. The veil of the temple was torn in two. Jesus cried with a loud voice: Father, into your hands I commend my spirit. After saying this he quit breathing. The centurion saw what was done and glorified God, saying: Certainly this was a righteous man. The crowds gathered at this sight. When they saw the things that were done they left beating their breasts. All of his friends and the women who followed him from Galilee stood watching from a distance.

Pilate wrote a title and put it on the stake. There it was written, JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS. This title was read by many of the Jews, for the place where Jesus was impaled was near the city. It was written in Hebrew, Latin and Greek. The chief priests of the Jews said to Pilate: Do not write, The King of the Jews; but that he said, I am King of the Jews. Pilate answered: What I have written, I have written. After they impaled Jesus the soldiers took his garments and made four parts, one for each soldier. The coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout. He said to his mother, Woman, look, your son! Then he said to the disciple, Look, your mother! That hour forward the disciple took her to his home. He knew that it was over. In order that the scripture might be accomplished, he said: I thirst. A vessel full of vinegar was setting there. They put a sponge full of vinegar upon a hyssop branch and brought it to his mouth. When Jesus received the vinegar, he said, it is finished. He bowed his head, and he stopped breathing.

Be merciful to me, O Jehovah! See the sufferings my enemies cause me! Rescue me from death, O Jehovah.

You are Peter (Greek: petros: piece of rock), and on this rock-mass (Greek: petra: mass of rock) (referring to Jesus) I will build my congregation. The entrance to the grave (Greek: Hades) will not have power to stop it.

Have the gates of death been shown to you? Have you seen the gates of the shadow of death?

I thought that in the prime of my life I would go down to the gates of the grave and be robbed of the rest of my life.

This is because the kingdom belongs to Jehovah and he rules the nations. All prosperous people on earth will eat and worship. All those who go down to the dust will kneel in front of him, even those who are barely alive.

When a wicked man dies his expectation perishes, indeed the hope of unjust men perishes.

If the wicked man turns from all his sins and observes all my statutes and practices justice and righteousness, he shall live; he shall not die. All his transgressions he has committed will not be remembered against him. He will live because of his righteousness he has practiced.' Oh, that I might have my request and that God would grant what I long for. Oh that God would be willing to crush me, to let loose his hand and cut me off! Then I would still have this consolation, my joy in unrelenting pain, that I had not denied the words of the Holy One. read more.
What strength do I have, that I should wait and hope? What prospects, that I should be patient?

Is this not the struggle of all humanity? A person's life is long and hard like that of a hired hand. It is like a worker who longs for the day to end, like a servant waiting to be paid. I am allotted months of futility, long and weary nights of misery.

I would rather die of strangulation than go on and on like this. I hate my life. I do not want to go on living. Oh, leave me alone for these few remaining days.

Just as sin reigned in death, even so might grace reign through righteousness to everlasting life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

If Christ is with you, the body is dead on account of sin, but the Spirit is life on account of righteousness. If the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from among the dead dwells with you, he who raised Christ from among the dead shall also make your mortal bodies alive. This is on account of his Spirit that dwells with you.

But someone will say: How are the dead raised up? And with what body do they come? You fool, that which you sow is not alive unless it first dies. That which you sow, you sow not that body that will develop, but bare grain, it may be of wheat, or of some other grain: read more.
