Growth In The Faith
3 Inasmuch as his power divine has bestowed on us every requisite for life and piety by the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence ??4 bestowing on us thereby promises precious and supreme, that by means of them you may escape the corruption produced within the world by lust, and participate in the divine nature ??5 for this very reason, do you contrive to make it your whole concern to furnish your faith with resolution, resolution with intelligence,
3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
3 seeing that His (H)divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true (I)knowledge of Him who (J)called us (d)by His own glory and (e)excellence.
3 His(c) divine power(F) has given us everything required for life and godliness through the knowledge(G) of Him who called(H) us by(d) His own glory and goodness.
3 His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through the full knowledge of the one who called us by his own glory and excellence.
4 intelligence with self-control, self-control with stedfastness, stedfastness with piety,
4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
4 (f)For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent (K)promises, so that by them you may become (L)partakers of the divine nature, having (M)escaped the (N)corruption that is in (O)the world by lust.
4 By these He has given us very great and precious promises,(I) so that through them you may share in the divine nature,(J) escaping the corruption that is in the world because of evil desires.
4 Through these he has given us his precious and wonderful promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, seeing that you have escaped the corruption that is in the world caused by evil desires.
5 piety with brotherliness, brotherliness with Christian love.
5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
5 Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith (P)supply (Q)moral (g)excellence, and in your moral excellence, (R)knowledge,
5 For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with goodness, goodness with knowledge,
5 For this very reason, you must make every effort to supplement your faith with moral character, your moral character with knowledge,
Make Your Calling And Election Secure
6 For as these qualities exist and increase with you, they render you active and fruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ;
6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
6 and in your knowledge, (S)self-control, and in your self-control, (T)perseverance, and in your perseverance, (U)godliness,
6 your knowledge with self-control, your self-control with endurance, your endurance with godliness,
8 So be the more eager, brothers, to ratify your calling and election, for as you practise these qualities you will never make a slip;
8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
8 For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor (W)unfruitful in the true (X)knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
8 For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they will keep you from being useless(M) or unfruitful(N) in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
8 For if you possess these qualities, and if they continue to increase among you, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in attaining a full knowledge of our Lord Jesus, the Messiah.
9 you will thus be richly furnished with the right of entry into the eternal realm of our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ.
9 But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
9 For he who lacks these qualities is (Y)blind or short-sighted, having forgotten his (Z)purification from his former sins.
9 The person who lacks these things is blind and shortsighted and has forgotten the cleansing from his past sins.
9 For the person who lacks these qualities is blind and shortsighted, and has forgotten the cleansing that he has received from his past sins.
Salvation Based On The Word Of God
10 Hence I mean to keep on reminding you of this, although you are aware of it and are fixed in the Truth as it is;
10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:
10 Therefore, brethren, be all the more diligent to make certain about His (AA)calling and (AB)choosing you; for as long as you practice these things, you will never (AC)stumble;
10 Therefore, brothers, make every effort to confirm your calling and election,(O) because if you do these things you will never stumble.
10 So then, my brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and election certain, for if you keep on doing this you will never fail.
11 so long as I am in this tent, I deem it proper to stir you up by way of reminder,
11 For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
11 for in this way the entrance into (AD)the eternal kingdom of our (AE)Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be (AF)abundantly (AG)supplied to you.
11 For in this way, entry into the eternal kingdom(P) of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be richly supplied to you.
11 For in this way you will be generously granted entry into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus, the Messiah.
12 since I know my tent must be folded up very soon ??as indeed our Lord Jesus Christ has shown me.
12 Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth.
12 Therefore, (AH)I will always be ready to remind you of these things, even though you already know them, and have been established in (AI)the truth which is present with you.
12 Therefore I will always remind you about these things, even though you know them and are established in the truth(Q) you have.
12 Therefore, I intend to keep on reminding you about these things, even though you already know them and are firmly established in the truth that you now have.
13 Yes, and I will see to it that even when I am gone, you will keep this constantly in mind.
13 Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;
13 I consider it (AJ)right, as long as I am in (AK)this earthly dwelling, to (AL)stir you up by way of reminder,
13 Yet I think it is right to refresh your memory as long as I am living in this bodily tent,
The Reliable Prophetic Word Of Testimony
14 For it was no fabricated fables that we followed when we reported to you the power and advent of our Lord Jesus Christ; we were admitted to the spectacle of his sovereignty,
14 Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me.
14 knowing that (AM)the laying aside of my earthly dwelling is imminent, (AN)as also our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me.
14 because I know that the removal of my bodily tent will come soon, as indeed our Lord Jesus, the Messiah, has shown me.
15 when he was invested with honour and glory by God the Father, and when the following voice was borne to him from the sublime Glory, "This is my son, the Beloved, in whom I delight."
15 Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance.
15 And I will also be diligent that at any time after my (AO)departure you will be able to call these things to mind.
15 And I will also make every effort that you may be able to recall these things at any time after my departure.(f)
15 And I will make every effort to see that you will always remember these things after I am gone.
16 That voice borne from heaven we heard, we who were beside him on the sacred hill,
16 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
16 For we did not follow cleverly devised (AP)tales when we made known to you the (AQ)power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were (AR)eyewitnesses of His majesty.
16 For we did not follow cleverly contrived myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ;(T) instead, we were eyewitnesses of His majesty.(U)
16 When we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus, the Messiah, we did not follow any clever myths. Rather, we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
17 and thus we have gained fresh confirmation of the prophetic word. Pray attend to that word; it shines like a lamp within a darksome spot, till the Day dawns and the daystar rises within your hearts ??20 understanding this, at the outset, that no prophetic scripture allows a man to interpret it by himself;
17 For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
17 For when He received honor and glory from God the Father, such an (h)(AS)utterance as this was (i)made to Him by the (AT)Majestic Glory, “This is My beloved Son with whom I am well-pleased”—
17 For when He received honor and glory from God the Father, a voice came to Him from the Majestic Glory:This is My beloved Son.(g)I take delight in Him!(h)(V)
17 For he received honor and glory from God the Father when these words from the Majestic Glory were spoken about him: "This is my Son, whom I love. I am pleased with him."
18 for prophecy never came by human impulse, it was when carried away by the holy Spirit that the holy men of God spoke.
18 And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.
18 and we ourselves heard this (j)utterance made from heaven when we were with Him on the (AU)holy mountain.
18 We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the holy mountain.
