Difficult Times Ahead In The Last Days
2 For people will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, abusive talkers, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
2 For men will be (B)lovers of self, (C)lovers of money, (D)boastful, (E)arrogant, (F)revilers, (G)disobedient to parents, (H)ungrateful, (I)unholy,
2 For people will be lovers of self,(B) lovers of money,(C) boastful, proud,(D) blasphemers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy,(E)
2 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,
3 lacking in natural affection, unwilling to be reconciled [to their enemies], slanderers, lacking self-control, brutal, haters of what is good,
3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
3 (J)unloving, irreconcilable, (K)malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, (a)(L)haters of good,
3 unloving, irreconcilable, slanderers,(F) without self-control, brutal, without love for what is good,(G)
3 unfeeling, uncooperative, slanderous, degenerate, brutal, hateful of what is good,
5 [These people] maintain an appearance of being godly, but they have denied its power; [you should] turn away from such people.
5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
5 holding to a form of (b)(Q)godliness, although they have (R)denied its power; (S)Avoid such men as these.
5 They will hold to an outward form of godliness but deny its power. Stay away from such people.
6 They are the kind of people who enter homes and influence [morally] weak-willed women, loaded down with sins, [and] led on by all kinds of evil desires.
6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
6 For among them are those who (c)(T)enter into households and captivate (d)(U)weak women weighed down with sins, led on by (V)various impulses,
6 For among them are those who worm their way into households and capture idle women burdened down with sins, led along by a variety of passions,(N)
6 For some of these men go into homes and deceive foolish women who are burdened with sins and swayed by all kinds of desires.
8 These people oppose the truth just like Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses. They have corrupt minds and are worthless as far as the faith is concerned.
8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.
8 Just as (X)Jannes and Jambres (Y)opposed Moses, so these men also oppose the truth, (Z)men of depraved mind, rejected in regard to the faith.
8 Just as Jannes and Jambres(P) resisted Moses,(Q) so these also resist the truth, men who are corrupt in mind,(R) worthless(S) in regard to the faith.
8 Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these men oppose the truth. They are depraved in mind and their faith is a counterfeit.
9 But they will not advance any farther [in their sin] because their foolish ways will become obvious to everyone, just as those of Jannes and Jambres were.
9 But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was.
9 But they will not make further progress; for their (AA)folly will be obvious to all, just (AB)as (f)Jannes’s and Jambres’s folly was also.
9 But they will not make further progress, for their lack of understanding will be clear to all, as theirs(a) was also.
9 But they will not get very far because, as in the case of those two men, their stupidity will be plain to everyone.
The Value Of The Scriptures
10 But you have followed [Note: These words mean "to observe closely, have a keen interest in"] my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, patience, love, perseverance,
10 But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience,
10 But you have observed my teaching, my way of life, my purpose, my faith, my patience, my love, my endurance,
11 persecutions and sufferings. You know what kind of things happened to me at Antioch, Iconium and Lystra [See Acts 13:13-14:23], and what [severe] persecutions I experienced [there]. But the Lord rescued me from all of them.
11 Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me.
11 (AE)persecutions, and (AF)sufferings, such as happened to me at (AG)Antioch, at (AH)Iconium and at (AI)Lystra; what (AJ)persecutions I endured, and out of them all (AK)the Lord rescued me!
11 along with the persecutions and sufferings(V) that came to me in Antioch,(W) Iconium,(X) and Lystra.(Y) What persecutions I endured! Yet the Lord rescued me from them all.
11 and how I was persecuted and suffered in Antioch, Iconium, and Lystra. What persecutions I endured! Yet the Lord rescued me from all of them.
13 But evil people and impostors will go from bad to worse [in their behavior], deceiving people and being deceived by them.
13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.
13 But evil people and impostors will go from bad to worse as they deceive others and are themselves deceived.
14 But you should continue [to believe and practice] what you have learned and been convinced of, knowing those from whom you learned it. [Note: These persons would include Lois and Eunice (See 1:5), as well as Paul himself].
14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;
14 You, however, (AO)continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them,
14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and firmly believed. You know those who taught you,(AB)
14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and found to be true, because you know from whom you learned it.
15 And [remember] that, from childhood, you have known the sacred Scriptures which are able to make you wise [enough] to be saved through faith in Christ Jesus.
15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
15 and that (AP)from childhood you have known (AQ)the sacred writings which are able to (AR)give you the wisdom that leads to (AS)salvation through faith which is in (AT)Christ Jesus.
15 and you know that from childhood you have known the sacred Scriptures,(AC) which are able to give you wisdom for salvation(AD) through faith in Christ Jesus.
15 From infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures that are able to give you the wisdom you need for salvation through faith in the Messiah Jesus.
