God's Dealings With Israel For His Name's Sake

1 And it came to pass in the seventh year in the fifth month, on the tent of the month, that there came in men of the elders of Israel to enquire of Yahweh, - and they sat before me.

1 Now in the seventh year, in the fifth month, on the tenth of the month, certain of the elders of Israel came to inquire of the LORD, and sat before me.

1 And it came to pass in the seventh year, in the fifth month, the tenth day of the month, that certain of the elders of Israel came to inquire of the LORD, and sat before me.

1 In the seventh year, in the fifth month, on the tenth day of the month, some of Israel’s elders came to consult the Lord,(A) and they sat down in front of me.

1 On the seventh year, on the tenth day of the fifth month, men came from the elders of Israel to seek the LORD. They sat down in front of me.

2 Then came the word of Yahweh unto me saying:-

2 And the word of the LORD came to me saying,

2 Then came the word of the LORD unto me, saying,

2 Then the word of the Lord came to me:

2 "Son of Man," the LORD told me,

3 Son of man, Speak thou with the elders of Israel, and say unto them, Thus, saith My Lord. Yahweh, To enquire of me, are ye coming in. As I live, very I will no be enquired of by you, Declareth My Lord Yahweh.

3 "Son of man, speak to the elders of Israel and say to them, 'Thus says the Lord GOD, "Do you come to inquire of Me? As I live," declares the Lord GOD, "I will not be inquired of by you."'

3 Son of man, speak unto the elders of Israel, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Are ye come to inquire of me? As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I will not be inquired of by you.

3 “Son of man, speak with the elders of Israel and tell them: This is what the Lord God says: Are you coming to consult Me? As I live, I will not be consulted by you.”(B) This is the declaration of the Lord God.

3 "Tell the elders of Israel, "This is what the Lord GOD asks, "Did you come to inquire of me? As long as I live, I won't let myself be sought by you," declares the Lord GOD.'

4 Wilt thou judge them, wilt thou judge, O son of man? The abominations of their fathers, let them know:

4 "Will you judge them, will you judge them, son of man? Make them know the abominations of their fathers;

4 Wilt thou judge them, son of man, wilt thou judge them? cause them to know the abominations of their fathers:

4 “Will you pass judgment against them, will you pass judgment, son of man? Explain the detestable practices of their fathers to them.(C)

4 "Will you judge them? Son of Man, will you indeed judge them? Teach them about the detestable things that their ancestors did.

5 So then thou shalt say unto them Thus, saith My Lord Yahweh, In the day when I made choice of Israel, then lifted I up my hand. to the seed of the house of Jacob, and made myself known to them, in the land of Egypt,- Yea I lifted up my hand to them, saying, Yahweh am your God.

5 and say to them, 'Thus says the Lord GOD, "On the day when I chose Israel and swore to the descendants of the house of Jacob and made Myself known to them in the land of Egypt, when I swore to them, saying, I am the LORD your God,

5 And say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; In the day when I chose Israel, and lifted up mine hand unto the seed of the house of Jacob, and made myself known unto them in the land of Egypt, when I lifted up mine hand unto them, saying, I am the LORD your God;

5 Say to them: This is what the Lord God says: On the day I chose Israel, I swore an oath(a)(D) to the descendants of Jacob’s house and made Myself known to them in the land of Egypt. I swore to them, saying: I am Yahweh your God.(E)

5 Tell them, "This is what the Lord GOD says, "The day I chose Israel, when I made my commitment to the descendants of Jacob's house, I revealed myself to them in the land of Egypt and I made my promise to them with the words, "I am the LORD your God.'

6 In that day, lifted I up my hand to them, to bring them forth out of the land of Egypt, - into a land that I had looked out for them flowing with milk and honey, The beauty, it was of all lands,

6 on that day I swore to them, to bring them out from the land of Egypt into a land that I had selected for them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all lands.

6 In the day that I lifted up mine hand unto them, to bring them forth of the land of Egypt into a land that I had espied for them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all lands:

6 On that day I swore(b) to them that I would bring them out(F) of the land of Egypt into a land I had searched out for them, a land flowing with milk and honey,(G) the most beautiful of all lands.(H)

6 That day I promised to bring them out of the land of Egypt to the land that I had explored for them a land flowing with milk and honey. It's the most beautiful of all lands.

7 And I said unto them. Every one the abomination of his eyes, cast ye away, And with the manufactured gods of Egypt, let it not be that ye defile yourselves: I, Yahweh, am your God.

7 "I said to them, 'Cast away, each of you, the detestable things of his eyes, and do not defile yourselves with the idols of Egypt; I am the LORD your God.'

7 Then said I unto them, Cast ye away every man the abominations of his eyes, and defile not yourselves with the idols of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.

7 I also said to them: Each of you must throw away the detestable things that are before your eyes and not defile yourselves with the idols of Egypt.(I) I am Yahweh your God.(J)

7 Then I told them, "Each of you are to abandon your detestable practices. You are not to defile yourselves with Egypt's idols. I am the LORD your God.'"'"

8 But they rebelled against me And were not willing to hearken unto me, Every man the abominations of their eyes, they east not away, And the manufactured gods of Egypt, forsook they not; Therefore spake I of pouring out mine indignation upon them to bring mine anger to an end against them, in the midst of the land of Egypt.

8 "But they rebelled against Me and were not willing to listen to Me; they did not cast away the detestable things of their eyes, nor did they forsake the idols of Egypt Then I resolved to pour out My wrath on them, to accomplish My anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt.

8 But they rebelled against me, and would not hearken unto me: they did not every man cast away the abominations of their eyes, neither did they forsake the idols of Egypt: then I said, I will pour out my fury upon them, to accomplish my anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt.

8 “But they rebelled against Me and were unwilling to listen to Me. None of them threw away the detestable things that were before their eyes, and they did not forsake the idols of Egypt. So I considered pouring out My wrath on them,(K) exhausting My anger against them within the land of Egypt.

8 "But they rebelled against me and weren't willing to obey me. None of them abandoned their detestable practices or their Egyptian idols. So I said, "I'll pour out my anger on them, extending my fury in the middle of the land of Egypt.'

9 Howbeit I wrought with effect, for the sake of mine own Name, that it might not be profaned - before the eyes of the nations in whose midst they were, - before whose eyes I made myself known unto them, by bringing them forth out of the land of Egypt.

9 "But I acted for the sake of My name, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations among whom they lived, in whose sight I made Myself known to them by bringing them out of the land of Egypt.

9 But I wrought for my name's sake, that it should not be polluted before the heathen, among whom they were, in whose sight I made myself known unto them, in bringing them forth out of the land of Egypt.

9 But I acted because of My name,(L) so that it would not be profaned in the eyes of the nations they were living among, in whose sight I had made Myself known to Israel by bringing them out of Egypt.

9 I did this so my reputation might not be tarnished among the nations where they were living, among whom I made myself known in their presence when I brought them out of the land of Egypt.

10 Therefore brought I them forth out of the land of Egypt, - and caused them to come into the desert.

10 "So I took them out of the land of Egypt and brought them into the wilderness.

10 Wherefore I caused them to go forth out of the land of Egypt, and brought them into the wilderness.

10 “So I brought them out of the land of Egypt and led them into the wilderness.(M)

10 I brought them out of the land of Egypt to bring them to the wilderness

11 Then gave I unto them my statutes, And my regulations, caused I them to know,- By the which the man that doeth them shall live.

11 "I gave them My statutes and informed them of My ordinances, by which, if a man observes them, he will live.

11 And I gave them my statutes, and shewed them my judgments, which if a man do, he shall even live in them.

11 Then I gave them My statutes and explained My ordinances to them—the person who does them will live by them.(N)

11 where I gave them my statutes and revealed my ordinances to them, which if a person observes, he'll live by them.

12 Moreover also my sabbaths, gave I unto them, to become a sign betwixt me and them, - that it might be known that, I, Yahweh, was hallowing them.

12 "Also I gave them My sabbaths to be a sign between Me and them, that they might know that I am the LORD who sanctifies them.

12 Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am the LORD that sanctify them.

12 I also gave them My Sabbaths to serve as a sign between Me and them,(O) so they will know that I am Yahweh who sets them apart as holy.

12 Also, I instituted my Sabbath for them as a sign between me and them, so they would know that I am the LORD, who has set them apart."

13 But the house of Israel rebelled against reel in the desert In ray statutes, walked they not. And my regulations, they rejected By the which the man that doeth them shall live, my sabbaths also, they profaned exceedingly. Therefore spake I of pouring out mine indignation upon them in the desert, to make an end of them.

13 "But the house of Israel rebelled against Me in the wilderness They did not walk in My statutes and they rejected My ordinances, by which, if a man observes them, he will live; and My sabbaths they greatly profaned Then I resolved to pour out My wrath on them in the wilderness, to annihilate them.

13 But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness: they walked not in my statutes, and they despised my judgments, which if a man do, he shall even live in them; and my sabbaths they greatly polluted: then I said, I would pour out my fury upon them in the wilderness, to consume them.

13 “But the house of Israel rebelled against Me in the wilderness.(P) They did not follow My statutes and they rejected My ordinances—the person who does them will live by them.(Q) They also completely profaned My Sabbaths.(R) So I considered pouring out My wrath on them in the wilderness to put an end to them.(S)

13 "But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness. They didn't live by my statutes. They despised my ordinances, which if a person observes, he'll live by them. They greatly profaned my Sabbaths. So I said I would pour out my anger on them and bring them to an end in the wilderness.

14 Howbeit I wrought with effect for the sake of mine own Name, - that it should not b profaned in the eyes of the nations, in whose eyes I had brought them forth.

14 "But I acted for the sake of My name, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, before whose sight I had brought them out.

14 But I wrought for my name's sake, that it should not be polluted before the heathen, in whose sight I brought them out.

14 But I acted because of My name, so that it would not be profaned in the eyes of the nations in whose sight I had brought them out.

14 I did this so my reputation wouldn't be tarnished among the nations in whose presence I had brought them out.

15 Yet even l lifted up my hand to them. in the desert, - That I would not b1ing them into the land which I had given to them flowing with milk and honey, The beauty, it was. of all lands:

15 "Also I swore to them in the wilderness that I would not bring them into the land which I had given them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all lands,

15 Yet also I lifted up my hand unto them in the wilderness, that I would not bring them into the land which I had given them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all lands;

15 However, I swore(c) to them(T) in the wilderness that I would not bring them into the land I had given them—the most beautiful of all lands, flowing with milk and honey—

15 "Moreover, I solemnly swore to them in the wilderness that I wouldn't bring them to the land that I had given them a land flowing with milk and honey, the most beautiful of all lands

16 Because my regulations, they had rejected. And as for my statutes, they had not walked therein, My sabbaths also, had they profaned; or after their manufactured gods, their heart had been going.

16 because they rejected My ordinances, and as for My statutes, they did not walk in them; they even profaned My sabbaths, for their heart continually went after their idols.

16 Because they despised my judgments, and walked not in my statutes, but polluted my sabbaths: for their heart went after their idols.

16 because they rejected My ordinances, profaned My Sabbaths, and did not follow My statutes. For their hearts went after their idols.(U)

16 because they kept on rejecting my ordinances. They didn't live life consistent with my statutes, they profaned my Sabbaths, and their hearts followed their idols.

17 Nevertheless mine eye threw a shield over them that they should not be destroyed; So I made not of them a full end in the desert.

17 "Yet My eye spared them rather than destroying them, and I did not cause their annihilation in the wilderness.

17 Nevertheless mine eye spared them from destroying them, neither did I make an end of them in the wilderness.

17 But I spared them from destruction and did not bring them to an end in the wilderness.(V)

17 Even then, I looked on them with compassion and didn't completely destroy them in the wilderness.

18 But I said unto their children in the desert, In the statutes of your fathers, let it not be that ye walk, And their regulations, let it not be that ye observe, - And with their manufactured gods, let it not be that ye defile yourselves.

18 "I said to their children in the wilderness, 'Do not walk in the statutes of your fathers or keep their ordinances or defile yourselves with their idols.

18 But I said unto their children in the wilderness, Walk ye not in the statutes of your fathers, neither observe their judgments, nor defile yourselves with their idols:

18 “Then I said to their children in the wilderness: Don’t follow the statutes of your fathers, defile yourselves with their idols, or keep their ordinances.(W)

18 I told their children in the wilderness, "You are not to follow the statutes of your ancestors, observe their ordinances, or be defiled by their idols.

19 I, Yahweh, am your God, In my statutes, walk ye, - And my regulations, observe ye and do them;

19 'I am the LORD your God; walk in My statutes and keep My ordinances and observe them.

19 I am the LORD your God; walk in my statutes, and keep my judgments, and do them;

19 I am Yahweh your God. Follow My statutes, keep My ordinances, and practice them.(X)

19 I am the LORD your God. You are to follow my statutes, observe my ordinances, and keep them.

20 My sabbaths also, hallow ye, - And they shall become a sign betwixt me and you, That it may be known that I Yahweh am your God.

20 'Sanctify My sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between Me and you, that you may know that I am the LORD your God.'

20 And hallow my sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I am the LORD your God.

20 Keep My Sabbaths holy,(Y) and they will be a sign between Me and you, so you may know that I am Yahweh your God.

20 You are to make my Sabbaths holy, and you are to let them serve as a sign between you and me, so that you may know that I am the LORD your God.'"

21 Notwithstanding. the children rebelled against me. In my statutes, walked they not. And my regulations, observed they not. to do them. Wherein the man who shall do them shall live, My sabbaths, they profaned. Therefore spake I of pouring out mine indignation upon them to bring mine anger to an end against them. in the desert.

21 "But the children rebelled against Me; they did not walk in My statutes, nor were they careful to observe My ordinances, by which, if a man observes them, he will live; they profaned My sabbaths. So I resolved to pour out My wrath on them, to accomplish My anger against them in the wilderness.

21 Notwithstanding the children rebelled against me: they walked not in my statutes, neither kept my judgments to do them, which if a man do, he shall even live in them; they polluted my sabbaths: then I said, I would pour out my fury upon them, to accomplish my anger against them in the wilderness.

21 “But the children rebelled against Me.(Z) They did not follow My statutes or carefully keep My ordinances—the person who does them will live by them. They also profaned My Sabbaths. So I considered pouring out My wrath on them and exhausting My anger against them in the wilderness.

21 "But they rebelled against me. They didn't live according to my statutes, observe my ordinances, or practice them, by which a person will live. They also kept profaning my Sabbaths. So I said that I was going to pour out my anger on them and in my anger I'm going to bring about a complete end to them in the wilderness.

22 Howbeit I withdrew my hand, and wrought with effect for the sake of mine own Name, - that it should not be profaned before the eyes of the nations, before whose eyes I had brought them forth:

22 "But I withdrew My hand and acted for the sake of My name, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations in whose sight I had brought them out.

22 Nevertheless I withdrew mine hand, and wrought for my name's sake, that it should not be polluted in the sight of the heathen, in whose sight I brought them forth.

22 But I withheld My hand and acted because of My name, so that it would not be profaned in the eyes of the nations in whose sight I brought them out.

22 But I withdrew my decision so my reputation wouldn't be tarnished among the nations before whose eyes I brought them out.

23 Even, I, lifted up my hand to them in the desert, - That I would disperse them throughout the nations, And scatter them throughout the lands;

23 "Also I swore to them in the wilderness that I would scatter them among the nations and disperse them among the lands,

23 I lifted up mine hand unto them also in the wilderness, that I would scatter them among the heathen, and disperse them through the countries;

23 However, I swore(d) to them in the wilderness that I would disperse them among the nations and scatter them among the countries.(AA)

23 "Futhermore, I solemnly swore in the wilderness to disperse them among the nations and scatter them to other lands

24 Because my regulations, had they not done And my statutes, they had rejected, My sabbaths also, they had profaned,- And after the manufactured gods of their fathers, were their eyes turned.

24 because they had not observed My ordinances, but had rejected My statutes and had profaned My sabbaths, and their eyes were on the idols of their fathers.

24 Because they had not executed my judgments, but had despised my statutes, and had polluted my sabbaths, and their eyes were after their fathers' idols.

24 For they did not practice My ordinances but rejected My statutes and profaned My Sabbaths, and their eyes were fixed(AB) on their fathers’ idols.

24 because they didn't observe my ordinances. Instead, they rejected my statutes, profaned my Sabbaths, and worshipped their ancestors' idols.

25 I myself, indeed, suffered them to walk in statutes which were not good, - And regulations in which they could not live.

25 "I also gave them statutes that were not good and ordinances by which they could not live;

25 Wherefore I gave them also statutes that were not good, and judgments whereby they should not live;

25 I also gave them statutes that were not good and ordinances(AC) they could not live by.

25 So I gave them statutes that weren't good and ordinances by which they could not live.

26 Yea I let them defile themselves with their gifts, when they caused every firstborn to pass through the fire,-.that I might make them desolate. To the end they might know that, I, am Yahweh.

26 and I pronounced them unclean because of their gifts, in that they caused all their firstborn to pass through the fire so that I might make them desolate, in order that they might know that I am the LORD."'

26 And I polluted them in their own gifts, in that they caused to pass through the fire all that openeth the womb, that I might make them desolate, to the end that they might know that I am the LORD.

26 When they made every firstborn pass through the fire,(AD) I defiled them through their gifts in order to devastate them so they would know that I am Yahweh.(AE)

26 I made them unclean because of their offerings, so they made all their firstborn to pass through the fire, so that I could make them astonished. Then they'll know that I am the LORD."

Judgment And Restoration

27 Therefore speak thou unto the house of Israel Son of man, and say unto them, Thus saith My Lord Yahweh, - Yet further in this, did your fathers insult me, by the treachery wherewith they dealt treacherously against me;

27 "Therefore, son of man, speak to the house of Israel and say to them, 'Thus says the Lord GOD, "Yet in this your fathers have blasphemed Me by acting treacherously against Me.

27 Therefore, son of man, speak unto the house of Israel, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Yet in this your fathers have blasphemed me, in that they have committed a trespass against me.

27 “Therefore, son of man, speak to the house of Israel, and tell them: This is what the Lord God says: In this way also your fathers blasphemed Me by(AF) committing treachery against Me:

27 "Therefore, Son of Man, you are to speak to the children of Israel and tell them, "This is what the Lord GOD says: "Your ancestors also blasphemed me in their treacherous behavior against me.

28 When I brought them into the land as to which I had lifted up mine hand to give it them, then beheld they every high hill and every tangled tree And offered there their sacrifices, And presented there, their provoking gift, And placed there, their satisfying odour, And poured out there, their drink- offerings.

28 "When I had brought them into the land which I swore to give to them, then they saw every high hill and every leafy tree, and they offered there their sacrifices and there they presented the provocation of their offering. There also they made their soothing aroma and there they poured out their drink offerings.

28 For when I had brought them into the land, for the which I lifted up mine hand to give it to them, then they saw every high hill, and all the thick trees, and they offered there their sacrifices, and there they presented the provocation of their offering: there also they made their sweet savour, and poured out there their drink offerings.

28 When I brought them into the land that I swore(e) to give them and they saw any high hill or leafy tree,(AG) they offered their sacrifices and presented their offensive offerings there. They also sent up their pleasing aromas and poured out their drink offerings there.

28 I brought them to the land that I had promised to give them. But whenever they saw any high hill and or any leafy tree, they slaughtered their sacrifices there and presented their offerings that provoked my anger. There they presented their pleasing aromas and poured out their drink offering.

29 Therefore said I unto them, What! a high-place, whereinto ye are entering, And so the name thereof hath been called High-place, unto this day.

29 "Then I said to them, 'What is the high place to which you go?' So its name is called Bamah to this day."'

29 Then I said unto them, What is the high place whereunto ye go? And the name thereof is called Bamah unto this day.

29 So I asked them: What is this high place you are going to? And it is called High Place to this day.

29 So I asked them, "What is the high place to which you're going?' That's why the name of the place has been called Bamah to this day."'

Rebellious Israel Renewed

30 Therefore say thou unto the house of Israel. Thus saith My Lord Yahweh, Is it in the way of your fathers, you are defiling yourselves,- And after their abominations, that ye are committing lewdness

30 "Therefore, say to the house of Israel, 'Thus says the Lord GOD, "Will you defile yourselves after the manner of your fathers and play the harlot after their detestable things?

30 Wherefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Are ye polluted after the manner of your fathers? and commit ye whoredom after their abominations?

30 “Therefore say to the house of Israel: This is what the Lord God says: Are you defiling yourselves the way your fathers did,(AH) and prostituting yourselves with their detestable things?

30 "Therefore you are to say to Israel's house, "This is what the Lord GOD says: "Will you defile yourselves like your ancestors did by acting as a prostitute, consistent with their horrible deeds?

31 Yea when ye lift up your gifts When ye cause your children to pass through the fire, Ye are defiling yourselves unto all your manufactured gods unto this day, And shall be enquired of by you. house of Israel. As I live, Declareth My Lord Yahweh, Surely I will not be enquired of by you.

31 "When you offer your gifts, when you cause your sons to pass through the fire, you are defiling yourselves with all your idols to this day. And shall I be inquired of by you, O house of Israel? As I live," declares the Lord GOD, "I will not be inquired of by you.

31 For when ye offer your gifts, when ye make your sons to pass through the fire, ye pollute yourselves with all your idols, even unto this day: and shall I be inquired of by you, O house of Israel? As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I will not be inquired of by you.

31 When you offer your gifts, making your children pass through the fire,(AI) you continue to defile yourselves with all your idols to this day. So should I be consulted by you, house of Israel? As I live”—this is the declaration of the Lord God—“I will not be consulted by you!

31 When you present your gifts and make your sons pass through the fire, you continue to defile yourselves with your idols to this day. Should I be inquired of by you, you house of Israel? As I live," declares the LORD, "I certainly won't be inquired of by you."

32 And as for that which is rising up on your spirit, it shall mot at all come to pass, In that ye are saying Let us be like the nations Like the families of the lands, By ministering unto Wood and Stone!

32 "What comes into your mind will not come about, when you say: 'We will be like the nations, like the tribes of the lands, serving wood and stone.'

32 And that which cometh into your mind shall not be at all, that ye say, We will be as the heathen, as the families of the countries, to serve wood and stone.

32 “When you say, ‘Let us be like the nations, like the peoples of other countries, worshiping wood and stone,’(AJ) what you have in mind will never happen.(AK)

32 The thing that you're imagining is never going to happen, since you're thinking, "We'll be like the nations, like the clans of other lands who serve gods made from wood and stone."'"

God Punishes And Forgives

33 As I live, Declareth My Lord Yahweh, Surely with a strong hand and With an outstretched arm and With outpoured indignation Will I be king over you;

33 "As I live," declares the Lord GOD, "surely with a mighty hand and with an outstretched arm and with wrath poured out, I shall be king over you.

33 As I live, saith the Lord GOD, surely with a mighty hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with fury poured out, will I rule over you:

33 As I live”—the declaration of the Lord God—“I will rule over you with a strong hand, an outstretched arm,(AL) and outpoured wrath.

33 "As I live," declares the Lord GOD, "with my powerful hand and outstretched arm, along with my wrath poured out, I'll reign as king over you.

34 And I will bring you forth from among the peoples, And gather you together out of the lands, throughout which ye have been dispersed, With t strong hand and With an outstretched arm, and With outpoured indignation;

34 "I will bring you out from the peoples and gather you from the lands where you are scattered, with a mighty hand and with an outstretched arm and with wrath poured out;

34 And I will bring you out from the people, and will gather you out of the countries wherein ye are scattered, with a mighty hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with fury poured out.

34 I will bring you from the peoples and gather you from the countries where you were scattered,(AM) with a strong hand, an outstretched arm,(AN) and outpoured wrath.

34 I'll bring you out from the nations and gather you from the lands where you were scattered. With a powerful hand, with an outstretched arm, and with wrath poured out,

35 And I will bring you into the desert of the peoples, - and will contend with you there, I face to face.

35 and I will bring you into the wilderness of the peoples, and there I will enter into judgment with you face to face.

35 And I will bring you into the wilderness of the people, and there will I plead with you face to face.

35 I will lead you into the wilderness of the peoples(AO) and enter into judgment with you there face to face.

35 I'll bring you into the wilderness of the nations. I'll judge you right there, face to face.

36 Just as I contended with yore fathers in the desert of the land of Egypt, So will I contend with you, Declareth My Lord Yahweh;

36 "As I entered into judgment with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so I will enter into judgment with you," declares the Lord GOD.

36 Like as I pleaded with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so will I plead with you, saith the Lord GOD.

36 Just as I entered into judgment with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt,(AP) so I will enter into judgment with you.” This is the declaration of the Lord God.

36 Just as I judged your ancestors in the wilderness in the land of Egypt, so I'll judge you," declares the LORD.

37 And I will cause you to pass under the rod And will bring you into the bond of the covenant;

37 "I will make you pass under the rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant;

37 And I will cause you to pass under the rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant:

37 “I will make you pass under the rod(AQ) and will bring you into the bond of the covenant.

37 "I'll cause you to pass under the rod until I will have brought you into the bond of the covenant.

38 And will sever from you those who are rebelling and those who are transgressing against me, Out of the land of their sojournings, will I bring them forth, Yet upon the so of Israel, shall they not enter, So shall ye know that, I, am Yahweh.

38 and I will purge from you the rebels and those who transgress against Me; I will bring them out of the land where they sojourn, but they will not enter the land of Israel. Thus you will know that I am the LORD.

Fire In The South

45 Then came the word of Yahweh unto me. saying:

45 Now the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

45 Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

45 (g)The word of the Lord came to me:

45 This message came to me from the LORD:

46 Son of man Set thy face the way towards Teman, And drop thy word against the land of the sun, And prophesy unto the forest of the field of the South;

46 "Son of man, set your face toward Teman, and speak out against the south and prophesy against the forest land of the Negev,

46 Son of man, set thy face toward the south, and drop thy word toward the south, and prophesy against the forest of the south field;

46 “Son of man, face the south and preach against it. Prophesy against the forest land in the Negev,(BB)

46 "Son of Man, turn to the south and oppose it, talking toward the south.

47 And thou shalt say to the forest of the South Hear the word of Yahweh, - Thus saith My Lord Yahweh-Behold me! kindling in thee a fire. And it shall devour in thee every moist tree and every dry tree. The spreading flame shall not be quenched, Then shall be scorched thereby all faces from south to north;

47 and say to the forest of the Negev, 'Hear the word of the LORD: thus says the Lord GOD, "Behold, I am about to kindle a fire in you, and it will consume every green tree in you, as well as every dry tree; the blazing flame will not be quenched and the whole surface from south to north will be burned by it.

47 And say to the forest of the south, Hear the word of the LORD; Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will kindle a fire in thee, and it shall devour every green tree in thee, and every dry tree: the flaming flame shall not be quenched, and all faces from the south to the north shall be burned therein.

47 and say to the forest there: Hear the word of the Lord! This is what the Lord God says: I am about to ignite a fire in you, and it will devour every green tree and every dry tree in you. The blazing flame will not be extinguished, and every face from the south to the north will be scorched by it.

47 Prophesy against the forest of the Negev, "Listen to this message from the LORD. This is what the Lord GOD says: "Look out! I'm about to ignite a fire and set it against you. It will devour every tree whether green or dry that lives in you. This powerful flame will not be extinguishable, and the entire surface from south to north will be scorched by it.

48 And all flesh shall see that I. Yahweh have kindled it,- It shall not be quenched.

48 "All flesh will see that I, the LORD, have kindled it; it shall not be quenched."'"

48 And all flesh shall see that I the LORD have kindled it: it shall not be quenched.

48 Then all people will see that I, Yahweh, have kindled it.(BC) It will not be extinguished.”

48 Then everyone will see that I, the LORD, have kindled it, because it won't be extinguished."'"

49 Then said I, Ah! My Lord Yahweh: They are saying of me, Is not he a putter forth of parables?

49 Then I said, "Ah Lord GOD! They are saying of me, 'Is he not just speaking parables?'"

49 Then said I, Ah Lord GOD! they say of me, Doth he not speak parables?

49 Then I said, “Oh, Lord God, they are saying of me, ‘Isn’t he just posing riddles?’”(BD)

49 Then I said, "O Lord GOD! They're saying about me, "Isn't he one to propound parables?'"
