2 (B)The mighty man and the warrior,The judge and the prophet,The diviner and the elder,

2 The mighty man, and the man of war, the judge, and the prophet, and the prudent, and the ancient,

2 the hero and warrior,(A)the judge and prophet, the fortune-teller and elder,

2 the mighty man and the warrior, the judge and the prophet, the fortune-teller and the elder,

3 captains of groups of fifty, the respected citizens, advisers and those skilled in magical arts, and those who know incantations.

3 The captain of fifty and the honorable man,The counselor and the expert artisan,And the skillful enchanter.

3 The captain of fifty, and the honourable man, and the counseller, and the cunning artificer, and the eloquent orator.

3 the commander of 50 and the dignitary, the counselor, cunning magician,(a) and necromancer.(b)

3 the commander of fifty and the man of rank, and the counselor, the expert magician, and the medium.

4 The Lord says, "I will make youths their officials; malicious young men will rule over them.

4 And I will make mere (C)lads their princes,And (e)capricious children will rule over them,

4 And I will give children to be their princes, and babes shall rule over them.

4 “I will make youths their leaders,(B)and the unstable(c) will govern them.”

4 "I will make youths their princes, and infants will rule over them.

5 The people will treat each other harshly; men will oppose each other; neighbors will fight. Youths will proudly defy the elderly and riffraff will challenge those who were once respected.

5 And the people will be (D)oppressed,Each one by another, and each one by his (E)neighbor; The youth will storm against the elderAnd the inferior against the honorable.

5 And the people shall be oppressed, every one by another, and every one by his neighbour: the child shall behave himself proudly against the ancient, and the base against the honourable.

5 The people will oppress one another,(C)man against man, neighbor against neighbor;the youth will act arrogantly toward the elder, and the worthless toward the honorable.

5 People will oppress one another It will be man against man and neighbor against neighbor. The young will be disrespectful to the old, and the worthless to the honorable.

6 Indeed, a man will grab his brother right in his father's house and say, 'You own a coat -- you be our leader! This heap of ruins will be under your control.'

6 When a man (F)lays hold of his brother in his father’s house, saying,“You have a cloak, you shall be our ruler,And these ruins will be under your (f)charge,”

6 When a man shall take hold of his brother of the house of his father, saying, Thou hast clothing, be thou our ruler, and let this ruin be under thy hand:

6 A man will even seize his brotherin his father’s house, saying:“You have a cloak—you be our leader! This heap of rubble will be under your control.”

6 "For a man will grab his brother in his own father's house, and say, "You have a cloak, so you be our leader, and this heap of ruins will be under your rule!'

7 At that time the brother will shout, 'I am no doctor, I have no food or coat in my house; don't make me a leader of the people!'"

7 He will (g)protest on that day, saying,“I will not be your (h)(G)healer,For in my house there is neither bread nor cloak; You should not appoint me ruler of the people.”

7 In that day shall he swear, saying, I will not be an healer; for in my house is neither bread nor clothing: make me not a ruler of the people.

7 On that day he will cry out, saying:“I’m not a healer.I don’t even have food or clothing in my house.Don’t make me the leader of the people!”

7 "But at that time, he'll protest! He'll say, "I won't be your healer. I have neither food nor clothing in my house! You're not going to make me a leader of the people!'

8 Jerusalem certainly stumbles, Judah falls, for their words and their actions offend the Lord; they rebel against his royal authority.

8 For (H)Jerusalem has stumbled and Judah has fallen,Because their (i)(I)speech and their actions are against the Lord,To (J)rebel against (j)His glorious presence.

8 For Jerusalem is ruined, and Judah is fallen: because their tongue and their doings are against the LORD, to provoke the eyes of his glory.

8 For Jerusalem has stumbledand Judah has fallenbecause they have spoken and acted against the Lord,(D)defying His glorious presence.(E)

8 "For Jerusalem has stumbled, and Judah has fallen, because what they say and do opposes the LORD; they keep defying him.

9 The look on their faces testifies to their guilt; like the people of Sodom they openly boast of their sin. Too bad for them! For they bring disaster on themselves.

9 (k)The expression of their faces bears witness against them,And they display their sin like (K)Sodom; They do not even conceal it.Woe to (l)them! For they have (L)brought evil on themselves.

9 The shew of their countenance doth witness against them; and they declare their sin as Sodom, they hide it not. Woe unto their soul! for they have rewarded evil unto themselves.

9 The look on their faces testifies against them, and like Sodom,(F) they flaunt their sin. They do not conceal it.Woe to them, for they have brought evil on themselves.(G)

9 "The expressions on their faces give them away. They parade their sin around like Sodom; they don't even try to hide it. How horrible it will be for them, because they have brought disaster on themselves!"

10 Tell the innocent it will go well with them, for they will be rewarded for what they have done.

10 Say to the (M)righteous that it will go well with them,For they will eat the fruit of their actions.

10 Say ye to the righteous, that it shall be well with him: for they shall eat the fruit of their doings.

10 Tell the righteous that it will go well for them, for they will eat the fruit of their labor.

10 "Tell the righteous that things will go well, because they will enjoy the fruit of their actions."

11 Too bad for the wicked sinners! For they will get exactly what they deserve.

11 Woe to the wicked! It will go badly with him,For (m)(N)what he deserves will be done to him.

11 Woe unto the wicked! it shall be ill with him: for the reward of his hands shall be given him.

11 Woe to the wicked—it will go badly for them, for what they have done will be done to them.

11 "How terrible it will be for the wicked! Disaster is headed their way, because what they did with their hand will be repaid to them.

12 Oppressors treat my people cruelly; creditors rule over them. My people's leaders mislead them; they give you confusing directions.

12 O My people! Their oppressors (n)are (O)children,And women rule over them.O My people! (P)Those who guide you lead you astrayAnd confuse the direction of your paths.

12 As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths.

12 Youths oppress My people,(H)and women rule over them.My people, your leaders mislead you;they confuse the direction of your paths.(I)

12 "As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. My people, your leaders are misleading you they're giving you confusing directions."

The Lord Judges His People

13 The Lord takes his position to judge; he stands up to pass sentence on his people.

13 (Q)The Lord arises to contend,And stands to judge the people.

13 The LORD standeth up to plead, and standeth to judge the people.

13 The Lord rises to argue the caseand stands to judge the people.(J)

13 The LORD is taking his place to argue his case; he's standing up to judge the people.

14 The Lord comes to pronounce judgment on the leaders of his people and their officials. He says, "It is you who have ruined the vineyard! You have stashed in your houses what you have stolen from the poor.

14 The Lord (R)enters into judgment with the elders and princes of His people,“It is you who have (S)devoured the vineyard; The (T)plunder of the poor is in your houses.

14 The LORD will enter into judgment with the ancients of his people, and the princes thereof: for ye have eaten up the vineyard; the spoil of the poor is in your houses.

14 The Lord brings this chargeagainst the elders and leaders of His people:(K)“You have devastated the vineyard. The plunder from the poor is in your houses.(L)

14 The LORD will go to court to oppose the elders and princes of his people: "You're the ones who have been devouring the vineyard, the plunder of the poor is in your own houses!

15 Why do you crush my people and grind the faces of the poor?" The sovereign Lord who commands armies has spoken.

15 “What do you mean by (U)crushing My peopleAnd grinding the face of the poor?”Declares the Lord (o)God of hosts.

15 What mean ye that ye beat my people to pieces, and grind the faces of the poor? saith the Lord GOD of hosts.

15 Why do you crush My peopleand grind the faces of the poor?”This is the declarationof the Lord God of Hosts.

15 How dare you crush my people as you grind down the face of the poor?" declares the Lord GOD of the Heavenly Armies.

The Pride Of Jerusalem's Women

16 The Lord says, "The women of Zion are proud. They walk with their heads high and flirt with their eyes. They skip along and the jewelry on their ankles jingles.

16 Moreover, the Lord said, “Because the (V)daughters of Zion are proudAnd walk with (p)heads held high and seductive eyes,And go along with mincing stepsAnd tinkle the bangles on their feet,

16 Moreover the LORD saith, Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, and walk with stretched forth necks and wanton eyes, walking and mincing as they go, and making a tinkling with their feet:

16 The Lord also says:Because the daughters of Zion are haughty,(M)walking with heads held highand seductive eyes, going along with prancing steps, jingling their ankle bracelets,

16 The LORD also says: "Because Zion's women are so haughty, and walk with outstretched necks, flirting with their eyes, prancing along as they walk, and making tinkling noises with their ankle bracelets,

17 So the sovereign master will afflict the foreheads of Zion's women with skin diseases, the Lord will make the front of their heads bald."

17 Therefore the Lord will afflict the scalp of the daughters of Zion with scabs,And the Lord will make their foreheads bare.”

17 Therefore the Lord will smite with a scab the crown of the head of the daughters of Zion, and the LORD will discover their secret parts.

17 the Lord will put scabs on the headsof the daughters of Zion, and the Lord will shave their foreheads bare.

17 therefore the LORD will afflict sores on the heads of Zion's women, and the LORD will expose their private parts.

18 At that time the sovereign master will remove their beautiful ankle jewelry, neck ornaments, crescent shaped ornaments,

18 In that day the Lord will take away the beauty of their anklets, headbands, (W)crescent ornaments,

18 In that day the Lord will take away the bravery of their tinkling ornaments about their feet, and their cauls, and their round tires like the moon,

18 On that day(N) the Lord will strip their finery: ankle bracelets, headbands, crescents,(O)

18 "At that time, the LORD will take away the finery of the ankle bracelets, headbands, crescents,

19 earrings, bracelets, veils,

19 dangling earrings, bracelets, veils,

19 The chains, and the bracelets, and the mufflers,

23 garments, linen clothes, turbans, and veils.

23 mirrors, linen garments, tiaras, and veils.

24 A putrid stench will replace the smell of spices, a rope will replace a belt, baldness will replace braided locks of hair, a sackcloth garment will replace a fine robe, and a prisoner's brand will replace beauty.

24 Now it will come about that instead of (r)sweet (Z)perfume there will be putrefaction;Instead of a belt, a rope;Instead of (AA)well-set hair, a (AB)plucked-out scalp;Instead of fine clothes, a (AC)donning of sackcloth; And branding instead of beauty.

24 And it shall come to pass, that instead of sweet smell there shall be stink; and instead of a girdle a rent; and instead of well set hair baldness; and instead of a stomacher a girding of sackcloth; and burning instead of beauty.

24 Instead of perfume there will be a stench;instead of a belt, a rope;instead of beautifully styled hair,(R) baldness;(S)instead of fine clothes, sackcloth;(T)instead of beauty, branding.(d)

24 "And it will come about that instead of fragrance there will be a stench; instead of a belt, a rope; instead of well-set hair, baldness; instead of a fine robe, sackcloth; and instead of beauty, shame.

25 Your men will fall by the sword, your strong men will die in battle.

25 Your men will (AD)fall by the swordAnd your (s)mighty ones in battle.

25 Thy men shall fall by the sword, and thy mighty in the war.

25 Your men will fall by the sword, your warriors in battle.

25 Your men will die violently, while your forces fall in battle

26 Her gates will mourn and lament; deprived of her people, she will sit on the ground.

26 And her (t)(AE)gates will lament and mourn,And deserted she will (AF)sit on the ground.

26 And her gates shall lament and mourn; and she being desolate shall sit upon the ground.

26 Then her gates(U) will lament and mourn;deserted, she will sit on the ground.(V) >

26 and her gates lament and mourn. Ravaged, she will sit on the ground."
