²⁴ You are like a wild donkey accustomed to the desert. You sniff at the wind while in heat. All who seek you will not get tired. They will find you during your monthly period. ²⁵ “Keep your feet from being unshod
And your throat from thirst;
But you said, ‘It is hopeless!
No! For I have loved strangers,
And after them I will walk.’
²⁶ As a thief feels ashamed when he is caught, so the nation of Israel will feel ashamed. Their kings, princes, priests, and prophets will also feel ashamed.

Deuteronomy 32:16

They made God furious because they worshiped foreign gods and angered him (stirred up his zeal) because they worshiped worthless idols.

Jeremiah 3:13
