Job's Ninth Speech: A Response To Bildad

1 Job answered, and said,

1 In reply, Job responded:

2 "O how helpest thou the weak? What comfort givest thou unto him that hath no strength?

2 How hast thou helped him that is without power? how savest thou the arm that hath no strength?

2 “What a help you are to ()()the weak!How you have saved the arm ()without strength!

2 How you have helped() the powerlessand delivered the arm that is weak!

2 "What a help you are to the weak! How powerfully you deliver those without strength!

3 Where is the counsel that thou shouldest give him, which hath no wisdom? Wilt thou so show thine excellent righteousness?

3 How hast thou counselled him that hath no wisdom? and how hast thou plentifully declared the thing as it is?

3 “What counsel you have given to one without wisdom!What helpful insight you have abundantly ()provided!

3 How you have counseled the unwise()and thoroughly explained the path to success!

3 What counsel you provide to the fool! What insight you provide so abundantly!

4 Before whom hast thou spoken those words? Who made the breath to come out of the mouth?

4 To whom hast thou uttered words? and whose spirit came from thee?

4 “To whom have you uttered words?And whose ()spirit was expressed through you?

4 Who did you speak these words to?Whose breath came out of your mouth?

4 Who helped you say all of this? Who inspired you?"

5 "The giants and worthies that are slain, and lie under the world with their companions;

5 Dead things are formed from under the waters, and the inhabitants thereof.

6 yea, and all they which dwell beneath in the hell are not hid from him, and the very destruction itself cannot be kept out of his sight.

8 He bindeth the water in his clouds, and the cloud is not broken under them.

9 He holdeth back his stool, that it can not be seen, and spreadeth his clouds before it.

10 He hath compassed the waters with certain bounds, until the day and night come to an end.

10 “He has inscribed a ()circle on the surface of the watersAt the ()boundary of light and darkness.

11 The very pillars of heaven tremble and quake at his reproof.

11 “The pillars of heaven trembleAnd are amazed at His rebuke.

12 He filleth the sea with his power, and through his wisdom smiteth he the strength thereof.

12 He divideth the sea with his power, and by his understanding he smiteth through the proud.

12 “He ()quieted the sea with His power,And by His ()understanding He shattered ()Rahab.

12 By His power He stirred() the sea,and by His understanding He crushed Rahab.()

12 By his power he disturbs the sea; and with his skill he shatters the sea monster.

13 With his spirit hath he garnished the heavens, and with his hand hath he wounded the rebellious serpent.

13 By his spirit he hath garnished the heavens; his hand hath formed the crooked serpent.

13 “By His breath the ()heavens are ()cleared;His hand has pierced ()the fleeing serpent.

13 By His breath the heavens gained their beauty;His hand pierced the fleeing serpent.()()

13 He clears the skies with his wind; his hands have pierced the fleeing serpent.

14 This is now a short sum of his doings. But who is able sufficiently to rehearse his works? Who can perceive and understand the thunder of his power?"

14 Lo, these are parts of his ways: but how little a portion is heard of him? but the thunder of his power who can understand?

14 “Behold, these are the fringes of His ways;And how faint ()a word we hear of Him!But His mighty ()thunder, who can understand?”

14 These are but the fringes of His ways;how faint is the word we hear of Him!Who can understand His mighty thunder?

14 Indeed, these are the fringes of his ways, and how faint is the whisper we've heard of it! But who can comprehend the thunder of his might?"
