3 Let destruction take the day of my birth, and the night on which it was said, A man child has come into the world.
3 “(A)Let the day perish on which I was to be born,And the night which said, ‘A (c)boy is conceived.’
3 Let the day perish wherein I was born, and the night in which it was said, There is a man child conceived.
3 "Let the day when I was born be annihilated, along with the night when it was announced, "It's a boy!'
4 That day--let it be dark; let not God take note of it from on high, and let not the light be shining on it;
4 “May that day be darkness;Let not God above care for it,Nor light shine on it.
4 Let that day be darkness; let not God regard it from above, neither let the light shine upon it.
4 If only that day had turned to darkness!May God above not care about it,or light shine on it.
4 Let that day be dark; let God above not care about it; let no light shine over it.
5 Let the dark and the black night take it for themselves; let it be covered with a cloud; let the dark shades of day send fear on it.
5 “Let (B)darkness and black gloom claim it;Let a cloud settle on it;Let the blackness of the day terrify it.
5 Let darkness and the shadow of death stain it; let a cloud dwell upon it; let the blackness of the day terrify it.
5 May darkness and gloom(B) reclaim it,and a cloud settle over it.May an eclipse of the sun(a) terrify it.
5 Let darkness and deep gloom reclaim it; let clouds settle down on it; let blackness in mid-day terrify it.
6 That night--let the thick dark take it; let it not have joy among the days of the year; let it not come into the number of the months.
6 “As for that night, let darkness seize it;Let it not rejoice among the days of the year;Let it not come into the number of the months.
6 As for that night, let darkness seize upon it; let it not be joined unto the days of the year, let it not come into the number of the months.
6 If only darkness had taken that night away!May it not appear(b) among the days of the yearor be listed in the calendar.(c)
6 Let darkness carry that night away; let it not take its place joyfully among the days of the year; let it not be entered into the calendar.
8 Let it be cursed by those who put a curse on the day; who are ready to make Leviathan awake.
8 Let them curse it that curse the day, who are ready to raise up their mourning.
8 Let those who curse certain dayscast a spell(D) on it,those who are skilled in rousing Leviathan.(E)
8 Let whoever curses days curse it those who are ready to awaken monsters.
9 Let its morning stars be dark; let it be looking for light, but may it not have any; let it not see the eyes of the dawn.
9 “Let the stars of its twilight be darkened;Let it wait for light but have none,And let it not see the (e)breaking dawn;
9 Let the stars of the twilight thereof be dark; let it look for light, but have none; neither let it see the dawning of the day:
9 May its morning stars grow dark.May it wait for daylight but have none;may it not see the breaking(d) of dawn.
9 Let the stars of its evening twilight be dark; let it hope for light but let there be none; let it not see the breaking rays of the dawn.
10 Because it did not keep the doors of my mother's body shut, so that trouble might be veiled from my eyes.
10 Because it did not shut the opening of my mother’s womb,Or hide trouble from my eyes.
10 Because it shut not up the doors of my mother's womb, nor hid sorrow from mine eyes.
10 For that night did not shutthe doors of my mother’s womb,and hide sorrow from my eyes.
10 "Because that night refused to shut the doors of my mother's womb; it failed to keep me from seeing this trouble.
13 For then I might have gone to my rest in quiet, and in sleep have been in peace,
13 “For now I (E)would have lain down and been quiet;I would have slept then, I would have been at rest,
13 For now should I have lain still and been quiet, I should have slept: then had I been at rest,
13 "If I had died, I would be lying down by now, undisturbed, asleep, and at rest,
18 There the prisoners are at peace together; the voice of the overseer comes not again to their ears.
18 “The prisoners are at ease together;They do not hear the voice of the taskmaster.
18 There the prisoners rest together; they hear not the voice of the oppressor.
18 In that place, those who once were prisoners will be at ease together; they won't hear the voice of oppressors.
19 The small and the great are there, and the servant is free from his master.
19 “The small and the great are there,And the slave is free from his master.
19 The small and great are there; and the servant is free from his master.
19 The unimportant and the important are both there, and the servant is free from his master.
21 To those whose desire is for death, but it comes not; who are searching for it more than for secret wealth;
21 Which long for death, but it cometh not; and dig for it more than for hid treasures;
21 To those who are longing for death even though it does not come? To those who search for it more than for hidden treasure?
