But a certain man named Ananias, together with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, and secreted part of the price, his wife also being conscious to it; and bringing: some part, laid it at the feet of the apostles. But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan so filled thine heart, that thou shouldst lie to the holy Ghost, and keep back part of the price of the land? read more.
While it remained, did it not remain thy own? and when sold, was it not in thy own power? what is the meaning that thou hast taken this into thine heart? Thou hast not lyed to men, but to God. And Ananias at the hearing of these words fell down and expired: and great fear came on all that heard these things. And some of the young men arose, and wrapped him up; and they carried him out, and buried him. And about the space of three hours after, his wife also came in, not knowing what had happened. And Peter said to her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much. And she said, Yes, for so much. Then Peter said unto her, Wherefore have ye agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold the feet of those, who have been burying thy husband, now at the door, and they shall carry thee out. And immediately she fell down at his feet and expired: and the young men coming in found her dead, and they carried her out and buried her by her husband. And great fear came upon the whole assembly, and upon all that heard these things.

Him, that overcometh, I will make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go out no more: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, (the new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God,) and my own new name.

And I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the former heaven and the former earth passed away, and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, descending from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven, saying, Behold the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be his people, and God himself, even their God, will be with them. read more.
And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there shall be death no more, nor sorrow, nor crying, nor any more pain: for the former things are passed away. But the Jerusalem above is represented by the free-woman, which is the mother of us all.

but ye are come to mount Sion, and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to myriads of angels, to the general assembly and church of the first-born who are written in heaven, and to God the judge of all, and to the spirits of the just made perfect, and to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than Abel. read more.

Now this expression "yet once more" signifieth the removing of the things that are shaken, as of things which had been appointed only for a season, that those which cannot be shaken may remain. Remember Lot's wife. Whosoever shall seek to save his life, shall lose it; and whosoever will venture his life, shall preserve it. In that night there shall be two in one bed; the one shall be taken and the other left: two women shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken and the other left: two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken and the other left. And they answered and said unto Him, Where, Lord? And He said to them, where the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together.

And if the Lord did not shorten those days, none could escape: but for the sake of the elect, whom He hath chosen, He hath shortened those days. And then if any shall say to you, Behold, here is the Christ, or, Behold, He is there, believe it not: for there shall rise up false Christs, and false prophets, who shall work signs and wonders, to seduce, if possible, even the elect. Now his parents went every year to Jerusalem at the feast of the passover:

After these things there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

And among those that came up to worship at the feast there were certain Greeks:

After these things Jesus resided in Galilee: for He would not appear in Judea, because the Jews sought to kill Him. For no man doth any thing in secret, who is himself desirous to be known in public. As thou dost these wonderful things, make thyself known to the world. For neither did his brethren believe in Him. Then saith Jesus unto them, My time is not yet come: but your time is always alike ready; for the world cannot hate you: but me it hates, because I bear my testimony concerning it, that it's deeds are evil. Go ye up to this feast as soon as ye please; for I am not yet going up to it, because my time is not yet fully come. And after He had said these things unto them, He stayed a while in Galilee. But when his brethren were gone up, then He also went up to the feast, not in a public manner but as it were in private. The Jews therefore sought for Him at the feast, and said, Where is He? And there was much murmuring among the people concerning Him: for some said, He is a good man; others said, No: He deceiveth the people. No one however spake openly in favor of Him, for fear of the Jews. But when it was now about the middle of the feast, Jesus went up into the temple and taught.

And ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars, but be not troubled; for all these must indeed come to pass, but the end is not yet. Then shall they afflict you, and kill you; and ye shall be hated by all nations for my name: and then will many take offense, and betray one another, and hate one another: and many false prophets will rise up and deceive many: and because iniquity shall abound, the love of many will grow cold. But he that endures to the end, shall be saved: and this gospel of the kingdom of heaven shall be preached in all the world, for a testimony to all the nations; and then shall the end come. When therefore ye shall see the desolating abomination, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing at the holy place, (let him, that readeth, attend) then let those in Judea flee to the mountains:

And they asked Him, saying, Master, when shall these things be? And what will be the sign when these things shall come to pass? And He said, Take heed that ye be not deceived; for many shall come in my name, saying, I am the Christ; and the time is near: but do not therefore go after them. And when ye shall hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified: for these must first happen; but the end will not be directly. read more.
Then said He unto them, Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; and there will be great earthquakes in several places, and famines, and pestilences, and fearful sights and great prodigies from heaven.

And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations in perplexity, the sea and the waves roring:

And there was given me a reed like a measuring rod; and the angel stood and said, Rise and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and the extent of those that worship at it. And as soon as ever it was light the chief priests holding a consultation with the elders and scribes, they and the whole sanhedrim, bound Jesus, and carried Him away, and delivered Him to Pilate.

Then they all rose up and led Him to Pilate. And they began to accuse Him, saying, We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbiding to give tribute to Cesar; saying, that He himself is Christ the king. And Pilate asked Him, saying, Art thou the king of the Jews? And He answered him and said, I am as thou sayest. read more.
But Pilate said to the chief priests, and to the people, I find nothing criminal in this man. Then they were more vehement, saying, He stirreth up the people to sedition, spreading his doctrine throughout all Judea: having begun at Galilee and come even to this place. Now when Pilate heard of Galilee, he asked, if the man were a Galilean: and understanding that He was of Herod's jurisdiction, he sent Him to Herod, who was also at Jerusalem at that time.

Then they led Jesus from Caiaphas to the pretorium: (now it was morning) and they themselves went not in to the court, least they should be defiled, and so might not eat of the passover. Therefore Pilate went out to them, and said, What accusation do ye bring against this man?

And he called two of the centurions to him, and said, Get ready two hundred soldiers to go to Cesarea, and seventy horsemen, and two hundred spearmen, by the third hour of the night.

Festus therefore, being come into the province, after three days went up from Cesarea to Jerusalem. And the high-priest and principal men among the Jews, appeared before him against Paul, and made application to him, begging the favor of him, that he would send for him to Jerusalem; for they were preparing an ambush to kill him by the way. read more.
But Festus answered, that Paul was in custody at Cesarea, and that he himself should go thither soon. Therefore, said he, let those of you who are able, go down with me, and if there be any thing bad in this man, let them accuse him. And when he had staid among them more than ten days, he went down to Cesarea, and the next day sitting on the tribunal, he commanded Paul to be brought before him. And when he was come, the Jews that came down from Jerusalem, stood round about, bringing many heavy charges against Paul, which they were not able to prove: he answering in his own defence, Neither against the law of the Jews, nor against the temple, nor against Cesar have I committed any offence. But Festus, being desirous to gain favor with the Jews, answered Paul and said, Art thou willing to go up to Jerusalem, and there to be tried concerning these things before me? Then said Paul, I stand at Cesar's tribunal, where I ought to be tried: I have done no wrong to the Jews, as thou very well knowest. For if I am indeed doing them wrong, and have committed any thing worthy of death, I refuse not to die: but if there be nothing in what these men accuse me of, no one can give me up to them. I appeal to Cesar. Then Festus, conferring with his council, answered, Hast thou appealed to Cesar? to Cesar thou shalt go. And some days after king Agrippa and Bernice came to Cesarea to salute Festus.

Now they that were dispersed by the trouble, which arose about Stephen, travelled as far as Phenicia, and Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching the word to none but the Jews only. And he carried me away in spirit to a great and high mountain, and he shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, having the glory of God: and her light was like a most precious stone, even as a Jasper-stone resembling crystal: having also a great and high wall, with twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels; and there were names inscribed, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel. read more.

And the city was four-square, it's length being as much as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed twelve thousand furlongs: the length and the breadth and the height of it are equal. And he measured the wall of it an hundred forty four cubits according to the measure of a man, for such was that of the angel. And the structure of its wall was of Jasper, and the city pure gold, like transparent glass. And the foundations of the wall of the city were set off each with precious stones: the first foundation a jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony, the fourth an emerald, the fifth sardonyx, the sixth sardius, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprasus, the eleventh jacinth, the twelfth an amethyst. And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; each of the gates was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold like resplendent glass. And I saw no temple in it: for the Lord God almighty, and the Lamb, are the temple of it. And the city hath no need of the sun, nor of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God enlighteneth it, and the Lamb is it's light. And the nations of those that are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth bring their glory and their honor into it. And the gates of it are not to be shut by day: for there shall be no night there. And they shall bring the glory and honor of the nations into it. Now Stephen being full of grace and power, wrought miracles and great signs among the people. Then they suborned men to say, we heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses and against God. And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes; and they came upon him, and forced him along with them, and brought him to the council: and they set up false witnesses; who said, This man is continually speaking blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law. For we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and change the rites which Moses delivered to us. (And all that were sitting in the council, looking stedfastly at him, saw his face like the face of an angel.)

whom he seized and put into prison, delivering him to four quaternions of soldiers to guard him; intending, after the passover, to bring him out to the people. Peter was therefore kept in custody: but incessant prayer was made to God for him by the church. And when Herod was about to bring him forth, that very night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the guards at the door watched the prison. And behold an angel of the Lord stood by him, and a light shone in the room; and smiting Peter on the side, he waked him, and said, Rise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands. And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself and tie on thy sandals: and he did so. And he saith unto him, Throw thy garment round thee, and follow me. So he went out and followed him; and he did not know, that what was done by the angel was real, but thought he saw a vision. And passing through the first and second guard, they came to the iron gate, that leadeth into the city, which of its own accord opened to them: and they went out and passed on through one street; and then the angel departed from him. And Peter being come to himself said, Now I know truly, that the Lord hath sent his angel and hath delivered me from the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews. And considering with himself, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, who was sirnamed Mark, where many were gathered together and praying. And when Peter knocked at the door of the porch, a servant named Rhoda came to ask who was there. And knowing Peter's voice, through excess of joy she did not open the door, but ran in and told them, that Peter was standing at the door. And they said to her, Thou art mad: but she confidently affirmed that it was so. Then said they, It is his angel. But Peter continued knocking; and when they opened the door, they saw him, and were astonished. But he made a sign to them with his hand to be silent, and related to them, how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said, Go, tell these things to James and to the other brethren. And he departed and went to another place. Now as soon as it was day, there was no small disturbance among the soldiers, what was become of Peter. And Herod searching for him, and not finding him, brought the keepers to a trial, and ordered them to be executed. Then he went down from Judea to Cesarea, and abode there. And Herod was going to make war upon the Tyrians and Sidonians: but they came to him with one consent, and making interest with Blastus the king's chamberlain, they sued for peace; because their territory was supplied with provision by the king's country. And upon a set day, Herod arrayed in his royal robes, and sitting upon his throne, made an oration to them. And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man: but immediately an angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and being devoured by worms he died.

And Simon Peter and another disciple followed Jesus. And that other disciple being known to the high priest went in with Jesus into the high-priest's hall.

And when He was come into Galilee, the Galileans received Him, having seen all that he did in Jerusalem at the feast: for they also went to the feast.

And Simon Peter and another disciple followed Jesus. And that other disciple being known to the high priest went in with Jesus into the high-priest's hall.

Now there was a garden in the place where He was crucified; and in the garden a new sepulchre, in which none had ever yet been laid.

But some in the croud bawled out one thing and some another: and as he could not know the certainty for the tumult, he commanded him to be carried into the castle.

nor by the earth, for it is his footstool; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King: neither shalt thou swear by thy head,

And when Herod the king heard it, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him:

And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, descending from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

but ye are come to mount Sion, and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to myriads of angels,

But they desire a better, that is, an heavenly one; wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God; for He hath prepared for them a city.

and if any one take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his part from the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things that are written in this book.

For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose maker and founder is God.

And he carried me away in spirit to a great and high mountain, and he shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, having the glory of God:

but are seeking that which is to come.

And now, being constrained by the spirit, behold I am going to Jerusalem, not knowing what will befal me there: save that the holy Spirit testifieth in every city, that bonds and afflictions await me. But none of these things move me, nor do I account my life dear, so that I may finish my course with joy, and the ministry which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God. read more.
And now behold I know that ye all, among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of God, shall see my face no more. Wherefore I call you to witness this day, that I am clear from the blood of all men. For I have not failed to declare unto you all the counsel of God. Take heed therefore to yourselves, and to all the flock, in which the holy Spirit hath appointed you bishops, to feed the church of God, which He purchased with his own blood. For I know this, that after my departure grievous wolves will enter in among you, not sparing the flock. And from among yourselves shall men arise, speaking perverse things to draw away disciples after them. Watch therefore, remembering that for the space of three years I ceased not by night and by day to warn every one with tears. And now, my brethren, I recommend you to God, and to the word of his grace: who is able to edify you, and to give you an inheritance among all that are sanctified. I have coveted no one's silver, or gold, or apparel: and ye yourselves know that these hands have ministred to my necessities, and to those that were with me. I have shewed you in all things, that by labouring thus ye ought to support the infirm; and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, who said, It is more blessed to give than to receive. And when he had said these things, he kneeled down, and prayed with them all. And they were all much grieved, and fell on Paul's neck, and kissed him: sorrowing most of all at the word which he spake, that they should see his face no more. And they accompanied him to the ship.

And when Peter knocked at the door of the porch, a servant named Rhoda came to ask who was there.

And there was a man at Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and he was a just and a religious man, who expected the consolation of Israel; and the holy Spirit was upon him. And it was revealed to him by the holy Spirit, that he should not die before he had seen the Anointed of the Lord. And he came by the influence of the Spirit into the temple, as his parents brought in the child Jesus to do concerning Him according to the custom of the law: read more.
and he took Him into his arms, and blessed God, and said, "Now, Lord, thou dismissest thy servant in peace, according to thy word; for mine eyes have seen thy salvation, which thou hast provided in the sight of all people, a light for the enlightening of the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel." And Joseph and his mother were amazed at the things that were spoken concerning Him. And Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary his mother, Behold, this child is appointed for the fall and rising again of many in Israel, and for a sign which shall be spoken against, (and a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also) that the thoughts of many hearts may be discovered.
