God said to Abraham, “As for your wife Sarai, do not call her Sarai, for Sarah
Abraham fell facedown. Then he laughed
But God said, “No. Your wife Sarah will bear you a son, and you will name him Isaac.
But I will confirm My covenant with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you at this time next year.”
So Abraham hurried into the tent and said to Sarah, “Quick! Knead three measures
“Where is your wife Sarah?” they asked him.
“There, in the tent,” he answered.
The Lord said, “I will certainly come back to you in about a year’s time, and your wife Sarah will have a son!”
Abraham and Sarah were old and getting on in years.
And Sarah will laugh within her, saying, After it has not been to me till now, and my lord, being old.
But the Lord asked Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh, saying, ‘Can I really have a baby when I’m old?’
Shall the word of Jehovah be difficult, at the appointed time? I will return to thee, according to the time of life, and a son to Sarah.
Sarah denied it. “I did not laugh,” she said, because she was afraid.
But He replied, “No, you did laugh.”
Abraham said about his wife Sarah, “She is my sister.”
Then Abimelech took sheep and cattle and male and female slaves, gave them to Abraham, and returned his wife Sarah to him.
And he said to Sarah, “Look, I am giving your brother 1,000 pieces of silver. It is a verification of your honor
for the Lord had completely closed all the wombs in Abimelech’s household on account of Sarah, Abraham’s wife.
The Lord came to Sarah as He had said, and the Lord did for Sarah what He had promised.
Sarah became pregnant and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the appointed time God had told him.
Abraham named his son who was born to him—the one Sarah bore to him—Isaac.
Sarah said, “God has made me laugh, and everyone who hears will laugh with me.”
She also said, “Who would have told Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne a son for him
But Sarah saw the son mocking
Sarah's demand displeased Abraham greatly because Ishmael was his son.
But God said to Abraham, “Do not be concerned
Now Sarah lived 127 years; these were all the years of her life.
Sarah died in Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron
And Abraham went to mourn for Sarah and to weep for her. And Abraham rose up from his dead, and he spoke to the Hittites [and] said,
After this, Abraham buried his wife Sarah in the cave of the field at Machpelah near Mamre (that is, Hebron) in the land of Canaan.

And [he] said to God, Oh, that Ishmael might live before You! Therefore Sarah laughed to herself, saying, After I have become aged shall I have pleasure and delight, my lord (husband), being old also? And the Lord asked Abraham, Why did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I really bear a child when I am so old? Is anything too hard or too wonderful for the Lord? At the appointed time, when the season [for her delivery] comes around, I will return to you and Sarah shall have borne a son. Then Sarah denied it, saying, I did not laugh; for she was afraid. And He said, No, but you did laugh.

But Abimelech had not come near her, so he said, Lord, will you slay a people who are just and innocent? Did not the man tell me, She is my sister? And she herself said, He is my brother. So now restore to the man his wife, for he is a prophet, and he will pray for you and you will live. But if you do not restore her [to him], know that you shall surely die, you and all who are yours. So Abimelech rose early in the morning and called all his servants and told them all these things; and the men were exceedingly filled with reverence and fear. Then Abimelech called Abraham and said to him, What have you done to us? And how have I offended you that you have brought on me and my kingdom a great sin? You have done to me what ought not to be done [to anyone]. And Abimelech said to Abraham, What did you see [in us] that [justified] you in doing such a thing as this? And Abraham said, Because I thought, Surely there is no reverence or fear of God at all in this place, and they will slay me because of my wife. But truly, she is my sister; she is the daughter of my father but not of my mother; and she became my wife. When God caused me to wander from my father's house, I said to her, This kindness you can show me: at every place we stop, say of me, He is my brother. Then Abimelech took sheep and oxen and male and female slaves and gave them to Abraham and restored to him Sarah his wife.
