1 (a)Praise (b)the Lord!Oh (A)give thanks to the Lord, for He (B)is good;For (C)His lovingkindness is everlasting.
1 Praise ye the LORD. O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.
1 Hallelujah! Give thanks to the LORD, since he is good, for his gracious love exists forever.
2 Who can utter the mighty acts of the LORD? who can shew forth all his praise?
2 Who can fully describe the mighty acts of the LORD or proclaim all his praises?
2 Who can put into words the mighty deeds of the Lord?Or who can proclaim all His praise [that is due Him]?
3 Blessed are they that keep judgment, and he that doeth righteousness at all times.
3 How happy are those who enforce justice, who live righteously all the time.
3 Blessed are those who observe justice [by honoring God’s precepts],Who practice righteousness at all times.
4 Remember me, O LORD, with the favour that thou bearest unto thy people: O visit me with thy salvation;
4 Remember me, LORD, when you show favor to your people. Visit us with your deliverance,
4 Remember me, O Lord, when You favor Your people.Visit me with Your salvation [when You rescue them],
5 That I may see the (G)prosperity of Your chosen ones,That I may (H)rejoice in the gladness of Your nation,That I may (I)glory with Your (f)inheritance.
5 That I may see the good of thy chosen, that I may rejoice in the gladness of thy nation, that I may glory with thine inheritance.
5 so that I may enjoy the prosperityof Your chosen ones, rejoice in the joy of Your nation, and boast about Your heritage.(E)
5 to witness the prosperity of your chosen ones, to rejoice in your nation's joy, to glory in your inheritance.
5 That I may see the prosperity of Your chosen ones,That I may rejoice in the gladness of Your nation,That I may glory with Your inheritance.
6 We have sinned with our fathers, we have committed iniquity, we have done wickedly.
6 We have sinned, along with our ancestors; we have committed iniquity and wickedness.
7 Our fathers in Egypt did not understand Your (h)wonders; They (L)did not remember (i)Your abundant kindnesses,But (M)rebelled by the sea, at the (j)Red Sea.
7 Our fathers understood not thy wonders in Egypt; they remembered not the multitude of thy mercies; but provoked him at the sea, even at the Red sea.
7 Our fathers in Egypt did not graspthe significance of Your wonderful worksor remember Your many acts of faithful love;instead, they rebelled by the sea—the Red Sea.(G)
7 In Egypt, our ancestors neither comprehended your awesome deeds nor remembered your abundant gracious love. Instead, they rebelled beside the sea, the Reed Sea.
8 Nevertheless he saved them for his name's sake, that he might make his mighty power to be known.
8 He delivered for the sake of his name, to make his power known.
8 Nevertheless He saved them for His name’s sake,That He might make His [supreme] power known.
9 Thus He (P)rebuked the (k)Red Sea and it (Q)dried up,And He (R)led them through the deeps, as through the wilderness.
9 He rebuked the Red sea also, and it was dried up: so he led them through the depths, as through the wilderness.
9 He shouted at the Reed Sea and it dried up; and led them through the sea as though through a desert.
10 So He (S)saved them from the (l)hand of the one who hated them,And (T)redeemed them from the (m)hand of the enemy.
10 And he saved them from the hand of him that hated them, and redeemed them from the hand of the enemy.
10 He delivered them from the power of their foe; redeeming them from the power of their enemy.
11 And the waters covered their enemies: there was not one of them left.
11 The water overwhelmed their enemies, so that not one of them survived.
12 Then believed they his words; they sang his praise.
12 Then they believed his word and sung his praise.
12 Then Israel believed in [the validity of] His words; They sang His praise.
13 They soon forgat his works; they waited not for his counsel:
13 But they quickly forgot his deeds and did not wait for his counsel.
13 But they quickly forgot His works; They did not [patiently] wait for His counsel and purpose [to be revealed regarding them],
14 But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, and tempted God in the desert.
14 They were overwhelmed with craving in the wilderness, so God tested them in the wasteland.
15 And he gave them their request; but sent leanness into their soul.
15 God granted them their request, but sent leanness into their lives.
16 They envied Moses also in the camp, and Aaron the saint of the LORD.
16 They were envious of Moses in the camp, and of Aaron, the holy one of the LORD.
17 The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan, and covered the company of Abiram.
17 The earth opened and swallowed Dathan, closing over Abiram's clan.
18 And a fire was kindled in their company; the flame burned up the wicked.
18 Then a fire burned among their company, a flame that set the wicked ablaze.
19 They made a calf in Horeb, and worshipped the molten image.
19 They fashioned a calf at Horeb and worshipped a carved image.
20 Thus they changed their glory into the similitude of an ox that eateth grass.
20 They exchanged their glory with the image of a grass-eating bull.
20 Thus they exchanged [the true God who was] their gloryFor the image of an ox that eats grass.
21 They forgat God their saviour, which had done great things in Egypt;
21 They forgot God their Savior, who performed great things in Egypt
21 They forgot God their Savior,Who had done such great things in Egypt,
22 Wondrous works in the land of Ham, and terrible things by the Red sea.
22 awesome deeds in the land of Ham, astonishing deeds at the Reed Sea.
22 Wonders in the land of Ham,Awesome things at the Red Sea.
23 Therefore (AL)He said that He would destroy them,Had not (AM)Moses His chosen one stood in the breach before Him,To turn away His wrath from destroying them.
23 Therefore he said that he would destroy them, had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach, to turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy them.
23 So He said He would have destroyed them—if Moses His chosen onehad not stood before Him in the breachto turn His wrath away from destroying them.(W)
23 He would have destroyed them but for Moses, his chosen one, who stood in the breach before him to avert his destructive wrath.
24 Yea, they despised the pleasant land, they believed not his word:
24 They rejected the desirable land, and they didn't trust his promise.
24 Then they despised the pleasant land [of Canaan];They did not believe in His word nor rely on it,
25 But murmured in their tents, and hearkened not unto the voice of the LORD.
25 They murmured in their tents, and didn't listen to the voice of the LORD.
25 But they sulked and complained in their tents; They did not listen to the voice of the Lord.
26 Therefore he lifted up his hand against them, to overthrow them in the wilderness:
26 So he swore an oath concerning them that he would cause them to die in the wilderness,
26 Therefore He lifted up His hand [swearing] to them,That He would cause them to fall in the wilderness,
27 To overthrow their seed also among the nations, and to scatter them in the lands.
27 and would disperse their descendants(d)among the nations, scattering them throughout the lands.(AA)
27 to cause their children to perish among the nations and be scattered among many lands.
27 And that He would cast out their descendants among the nationsAnd scatter them in the lands [of the earth].
28 They joined themselves also unto Baalpeor, and ate the sacrifices of the dead.
28 For they adopted the worship of Baal Peor and ate sacrifices offered to the dead.
28 They joined themselves also to [the idol] Baal of Peor,And ate sacrifices offered to the dead.
29 Thus they provoked him to anger with their inventions: and the plague brake in upon them.
29 They had provoked anger by their deeds, so that a plague broke out against them.
29 Thus they provoked Him to anger with their practices,And a plague broke out among them.
30 Then stood up Phinehas, and executed judgment: and so the plague was stayed.
30 But Phinehas intervened and prayed so that the plague was restrained.
31 And that was counted unto him for righteousness unto all generations for evermore.
31 And it was credited to him as a righteous act, from generation to generation to eternity.
31 And that was credited to him for righteousness,To all generations forever.
32 They also (BA)provoked Him to wrath at the waters of (v)Meribah,So that it (BB)went hard with Moses on their account;
32 They angered him also at the waters of strife, so that it went ill with Moses for their sakes:
32 They provoked wrath at the waters of Meribah, and Moses suffered on account of them.
33 Because they provoked his spirit, so that he spake unadvisedly with his lips.
33 For they rebelled against him, so that he spoke thoughtlessly with his lips.
33 Because they were rebellious against His Spirit,Moses spoke recklessly with his lips.
34 They did not destroy the nations, concerning whom the LORD commanded them:
34 They never destroyed the people, as the LORD had commanded them.
34 They did not destroy the [pagan] peoples [in Canaan],As the Lord commanded them,
35 But were mingled among the heathen, and learned their works.
35 Instead, they mingled among the nations and learned their ways.
35 But they mingled with the [idolatrous] nationsAnd learned their ways,
36 And they served their idols: which were a snare unto them.
36 They worshipped their idols, and this became a trap for them.
36 And served their idols,Which became a [dreadful] snare to them.
37 Yea, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto devils,
37 They sacrificed their sons and daughters to demons.
38 And shed (BK)innocent blood,The blood of their (BL)sons and their daughters,Whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan; And the land was (BM)polluted with the blood.
38 And shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan: and the land was polluted with blood.
38 They shed innocent blood—the blood of their sons and daughterswhom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan;so the land became polluted with blood.(AL)
38 They shed innocent blood the blood of their sons and daughters whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan, thereby polluting the land with blood.
38 And shed innocent blood,Even the blood of their sons and of their daughters,Whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan; And the land was polluted with their blood.
39 Thus were they defiled with their own works, and went a whoring with their own inventions.
39 Therefore, they became unclean because of what they did; they have acted like whores by their evil deeds.
39 In this way they became unclean in their practices; They played the prostitute in their own deeds [by giving their worship, which belongs to God alone, to other “gods”].
40 Therefore the (BP)anger of the Lord was kindled against His peopleAnd He (BQ)abhorred His (z)(BR)inheritance.
40 Therefore was the wrath of the LORD kindled against his people, insomuch that he abhorred his own inheritance.
40 The LORD's anger burned against his people, so that he despised his own inheritance.
41 And he gave them into the hand of the heathen; and they that hated them ruled over them.
41 He turned them over to domination by nations where those who hated them ruled over them.
41 He gave them into the hands of the nations,And those who hated them ruled over them.
42 Their enemies also oppressed them, and they were brought into subjection under their hand.
42 Their enemies oppressed them, so that they were humiliated by their power.
42 Their enemies also oppressed them,And they were subdued under the [powerful] hand of their enemies.
43 Many times He would (BU)deliver them; They, however, were rebellious in their (BV)counsel,And so (BW)sank down in their iniquity.
43 Many times did he deliver them; but they provoked him with their counsel, and were brought low for their iniquity.
43 He rescued them many times, but they continued to rebel deliberatelyand were beaten down by their sin.(AQ)
43 He delivered them many times, but they demonstrated rebellion by their evil plans; therefore they sunk deep in their sins.
43 Many times He rescued them; But they were rebellious in their counsel,And sank down in their wickedness.
44 Nevertheless he regarded their affliction, when he heard their cry:
44 Yet when he saw their distress and heard their cries for help,
44 Nevertheless He looked [sympathetically] at their distressWhen He heard their cry;
45 And He (BY)remembered His covenant for their sake,And (ac)(BZ)relented (CA)according to the greatness of His lovingkindness.
45 And he remembered for them his covenant, and repented according to the multitude of his mercies.
45 he remembered his covenant with them, and so relented according to the greatness of his gracious love.
45 And He remembered His covenant for their sake,And relented [rescinding their sentence] according to the greatness of His lovingkindness [when they cried out to Him],
46 He made them also to be pitied of all those that carried them captives.
46 He caused all their captors to show compassion toward them.
47 (CC)Save us, O Lord our God,And (CD)gather us from among the nations,To give thanks to Your holy nameAnd (ad)(CE)glory in Your praise.
47 Save us, O LORD our God, and gather us from among the heathen, to give thanks unto thy holy name, and to triumph in thy praise.
47 Save us, Yahweh our God,and gather us from the nations,so that we may give thanks to Your holy nameand rejoice in Your praise.(AU)
47 Deliver us, LORD our God, gather us from among the nations so we may praise your holy name and rejoice in praising you.
47 Save us, O Lord our God,And gather us from among the nations,That we may give thanks to Your holy nameAnd glory in praising You.
48 (CF)Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel,From everlasting even to everlasting. And let all the people say, “Amen.”(ae)Praise (af)the Lord!
48 Blessed be the LORD God of Israel from everlasting to everlasting: and let all the people say, Amen. Praise ye the LORD.
48 May Yahweh, the God of Israel, be praisedfrom everlasting to everlasting.(AV)Let all the people say, “Amen!”Hallelujah!(AW)
48 Blessed are you, LORD God of Israel, from eternity to eternity; Let all the people say, "Amen!" Hallelujah!
