Prayer Against Enemies

1 O God, do not rest [silently]. Do not keep silent or be still, O God.

1 God, do not rest! Don't be silent! Don't stay inactive, God!

2 For look, your enemies roar, and those who hate you have lifted [their] head.

2 For, lo, thine enemies make a tumult: and they that hate thee have lifted up the head.

2 For behold, Your enemies (C)make an uproar,And (D)those who hate You have (a)(E)exalted themselves.

2 See how Your enemies make an uproar;those who hate You have acted arrogantly.(a)(C)

2 See! Your enemies rage; those who hate you issue threats.

3 They devise cunning schemes against your people, and consult together against your protected ones.

3 They have taken crafty counsel against thy people, and consulted against thy hidden ones.

3 They (F)make shrewd plans against Your people,And (b)conspire together against (G)Your (c)treasured ones.

3 They devise clever schemes against Your people;they conspire against Your treasured ones.(D)

3 They plot against your people and conspire against your cherished ones.

4 They say, "Come, let us annihilate them from [being] a nation, so that the name of Israel will be remembered no more."

4 They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.

4 They have said, “Come, and (H)let us wipe them out (d)as a nation,That the (I)name of Israel be remembered no more.”

4 They say, “Come, let us wipe them out as a nationso that Israel’s name will no longer be remembered.”(E)

4 They say, "Let us go and erase them as a nation so the name of Israel will not be remembered anymore."

5 For they have consulted together {with a unified purpose}. They have made a covenant against you:

5 For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee:

5 For they have (e)(J)conspired together with one mind;Against You they make a covenant:

5 For they have conspired with one mind;they form an alliance(b) against You(F)

5 Indeed, they shrewdly planned together, forming an alliance against you

6 the tents of Edom and [the] Ishmaelites, Moab and [the] Hagrites,

6 The tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, and the Hagarenes;

6 The tents of (K)Edom and the (L)Ishmaelites,(M)Moab and the (N)Hagrites;

6 the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites,(G)Moab and the Hagrites,(H)

6 the tents of Edom, the Ishmaelites, Moab, the Hagrites,

7 Gebal and Ammon and Amalek, Philistia, with the inhabitants of Tyre.

7 Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; the Philistines with the inhabitants of Tyre;

7 (O)Gebal and (P)Ammon and (Q)Amalek,(R)Philistia with the inhabitants of (S)Tyre;

8 Assyria also has joined with them. They {provide help} to the children of Lot. Selah

9 Do to them as [you did with] Midian, as [with] Sisera, as [with] Jabin at the wadi of Kishon.

9 Do unto them as unto the Midianites; as to Sisera, as to Jabin, at the brook of Kison:

9 Deal with them (V)as with Midian,As (W)with Sisera and Jabin at the torrent of Kishon,

9 Deal with them as You did with Midian,(L)as You did with Siseraand Jabin at the Kishon River.(M)

9 Deal with them as you did to Midian, Sisera, and Jabin at the Kishon Brook.

10 They were destroyed at En-dor; they became dung for the ground.

10 Which perished at Endor: they became as dung for the earth.

11 Make their leaders like Oreb and Zeeb, and all their chiefs like Zebah and Zalmunna,

11 Make their nobles like Oreb, and like Zeeb: yea, all their princes as Zebah, and as Zalmunna:

11 Punish their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb, and all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna,

12 who said, "Let us take [as] our possession the pastures of God."

12 Who said, Let us take to ourselves the houses of God in possession.

12 Who said, “(AA)Let us possess for ourselvesThe (AB)pastures of God.”

12 who said, “Let us seize God’s pastures for ourselves.”(Q)

12 who said, "Let us possess the pastures of God."

13 O my God, make them like the tumbleweed, like the chaff before wind.

13 O my God, make them like a wheel; as the stubble before the wind.

13 O my God, make them like the (h)(AC)whirling dust,Like (AD)chaff before the wind.

13 Make them like tumbleweed, my God,like straw before the wind.(R)

13 God, set them up like dried thistles, like straw before the wind.

14 As fire burns a forest, and as a flame sets afire mountains,

14 As the fire burneth a wood, and as the flame setteth the mountains on fire;

14 Like (AE)fire that burns the forestAnd like a flame that (AF)sets the mountains on fire,

14 As fire burns a forest,as a flame blazes through mountains,(S)

14 Like a fire burning a forest, and a flame setting mountains ablaze.

15 so pursue them with your tempest and terrify them with your storm.

15 So persecute them with thy tempest, and make them afraid with thy storm.

16 Fill their faces with shame, that they may seek your name, O Yahweh.

17 Let them be ashamed and terrified forever, and let them be humiliated and perish

17 Let them be confounded and troubled for ever; yea, let them be put to shame, and perish:

17 Let them be (AI)ashamed and dismayed forever,And let them be humiliated and perish,

17 Let them be put to shame and terrified forever;let them perish in disgrace.(V)

17 Let them be humiliated and terrified permanently until they die in shame.

18 that they may know that you, [whose] name [is] Yahweh, you alone, [are the] Most High over the whole earth.

18 That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth.

18 That they may (AJ)know that (AK)You alone, whose name is the Lord,Are the (AL)Most High over all the earth.

18 May they know that You alone—whose name is Yahweh—are the Most High over all the earth.(W)
