Wherefore of these men which have companied with us - all the time that the Lord Jesus went out and in among us, beginning at the baptism of John unto that same day that he was taken up from us - must one be ordained to bear witness with us of his resurrection."





And we are witnesses of all things which he did in the land of the Jews and at Jerusalem: whom they slew, and hung on tree. Him God raised up the third day, and showed him openly, not to all the people, but unto us witnesses chosen before of God, which ate and drank with him, after he arose from death.

and he was seen many days of them, which came with him from Galilee to Jerusalem which are his witnesses unto the people.


This voice we heard when it came from heaven, being with him in the holy mount.

That which was from the beginning, declare we unto you; which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the word of life. For the life appeared: and we have seen, and bear witness, and show unto you that eternal life, which was with the father, and appeared unto us. That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye may have fellowship with us, and that our fellowship may be with the father, and his son Jesus Christ.


even as they declared them unto us, which from the beginning saw their selves, and were ministers at the doing:

Am I not an apostle? Am I not free? Have I not seen Jesus Christ our Lord? Are not ye my work in the Lord?

That which was from the beginning, declare we unto you; which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the word of life.

And Jesus, as soon as he was baptized, came straight out of the water: And, lo, heaven was opened over him, and John saw the spirit of God descend, like a dove, and light upon him:

The baptism of John: whence was it? From heaven, or of men?" Then they reasoned among themselves, saying, "If we shall say from heaven; he will say unto us, 'Why did ye not then believe him?'

John did baptise in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance, for the remission of sins. And all the land of Jewry, and they of Jerusalem went out unto him, and were all baptised of him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.

I have baptised you with water: but he shall baptise you with the holy ghost." And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth, a city of Galilee, and was baptised of John in Jordan. And as soon as he was come out of the water, John saw the heavens open, and the holy ghost descending upon him like a dove.

And it fortuned, as all the people received baptism - And when Jesus was baptised and did pray - that heaven was opened,

And all the people that heard, and the publicans, justified God and were baptised with the baptism of John. But the Pharisees and scribes despised the counsel of God, against themselves, and were not baptised of him.

The baptism of John: was it from heaven, or of men?"

And they asked him, and said unto him, "Why baptisest thou then, if thou be not Christ, nor Elijah, neither a prophet?" John answered them, saying, "I baptise with water: but one is come among you, whom ye know not.

These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John did baptise.

and I knew him not: but that he should be declared to Israel, therefore am I come, baptising with water.'"

But he that sent me to baptise in water, the same said unto me, 'Upon whom thou shalt see the spirit descend, and tarry still on him, the same is he which baptiseth with the holy ghost.'

and John also baptised in Enon, besides Salim, because there was much water there, and they came, and were baptised.

and went away again beyond Jordan, into the place where John before had baptised, and there abode.


which preaching was published throughout all Jewry, and began in Galilee, after the baptism preached by John;

Then came to my remembrance the words of the Lord, how he said, 'John baptised with water, but ye shall be baptised with the holy ghost.'

And he said unto them, "Wherewith were ye then baptised?" And they said, "With John's baptism." Then said Paul, "John verily baptised with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people that they should believe on him, which should come after him. That is on Christ Jesus."

And they appointed two: Joseph called Barsabbas, whose surname was Justus, and Matthias.


Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests, and said, "What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you?" And they appointed unto him thirty pieces of silver. And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him.

Then when Judas, which betrayed him, saw that he was condemned, he repented himself; and brought again the thirty plates of silver to the chief priests and elders, saying, "I have sinned, betraying the innocent blood." And they said, "What is that to us? see thou to that." And he cast down the silver plates in the temple, and departed, and went and hung himself.

And Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went away unto the high priests, to betray him unto them. When they heard that, they were glad, and promised that they would give him money. And he sought, how he might conveniently betray him.

While he yet spake, Lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came: and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, which were sent from the chief priests and elders of the people. And he that betrayed him, gave them a token, saying, "Whosoever I kiss, the same is he: lay hands on him." And forthwith-all he came to Jesus, and said, "Hail master." And kissed him. read more.
And Jesus said unto him, "Friend, wherefore art thou come?" Then came they and laid hands on Jesus and took him.

The feast of sweet bread drew nigh, which is called Easter, and the high priests, and scribes sought how to kill him, but they feared the people. Then entered Satan into Judas, whose surname was Iscariot, which was of the number of the twelve: read more.
and he went his way, and communed with the high priests and officers, how he might betray him to them. And they were glad: and promised to give him money. And he consented, and sought opportunity to betray him unto them, when the people were away.

Jesus answered them, "Have not I chosen you twelve? And yet one of you is the devil?" He spake it of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon. For he it was that should betray him, and was one of the twelve.

Before the feast of Easter, when Jesus knew that his hour was come, that he should depart out of this world unto the father; When he loved his which were in the world, unto the end he loved them; And when supper was ended, after that, the devil had put in the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him.

When Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Kidron, where was a garden: into the which he entered with his disciples. Judas also, which betrayed him, knew the place, for Jesus oftentimes resorted thither with his disciples. Judas then after he had received a bond of men, and ministers of the high priests, and of the Pharisees, came thither with lanterns, and firebrands, and weapons. read more.
Then Jesus, knowing all things that should come on him, went forth and said unto them, "Whom seek ye?" They answered him, "Jesus of Nazareth." Jesus said unto them, "I am he." Judas also which betrayed him, stood with them.

And immediately, while he yet spake, came Judas, one of the twelve, and with him a great number of people with swords and staves from the high priests and scribes and elders. And he that betrayed him had given them a general token, saying, "Whosoever I do kiss, he it is, take him, and lead him away warily." And as soon as he was come, he went straightway to him, and said unto him, "Master, master," and kissed him.

While he yet spake: behold, there came a company: and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them, and pressed nigh unto Jesus to kiss him. And Jesus said unto him, "Judas, betrayest thou the son of man with a kiss?" When they which were about him saw what would follow, they said unto him, "Lord, shall we smite with a sword?"

Judas also, which betrayed him, knew the place, for Jesus oftentimes resorted thither with his disciples. Judas then after he had received a bond of men, and ministers of the high priests, and of the Pharisees, came thither with lanterns, and firebrands, and weapons. And the same hath now possessed a plot of ground with the reward of iniquity. And when he was hanged, burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out. read more.
And it is known unto all the inhabiters of Jerusalem. Insomuch that that field is called in their mother tongue, Akeldama, that is to say the blood field. It is written in the book of psalms, 'His habitation be void, and no man be dwelling therein,' and, 'His bishoprick let another take.' Wherefore of these men which have companied with us - all the time that the Lord Jesus went out and in among us, beginning at the baptism of John unto that same day that he was taken up from us - must one be ordained to bear witness with us of his resurrection." And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples and said - the number of names that were together, were about a hundred and twenty - "Ye men and brethren, this scripture must have needs been fulfilled which the holy ghost, through the mouth of David, spake before of Judas, which was guide to them that took Jesus: For he was now numbered with us and had obtained fellowship in this ministration. read more.
