But when a convenient day was come: Herod on his birthday made a supper to the Lords, captains, and chief estates of Galilee. And he sware unto her, "Whatsoever thou shalt ask of me, I will give it thee, even unto the one half of my kingdom." And she went forth and said to her mother, "What shall I ask?" And she said, "John Baptist's head." And she came in straightway with haste unto the king, and asked, saying, "I will, that thou give me by and by in a charger the head of John Baptist." And the king was sorry. Yet for his oath's sake, and for their sakes which sat at supper also, he would not put her beside her purpose. And immediately the king sent the hangman and commanded his head to be brought in. Hereby shall ye know the spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh, is of God. And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh, is not of God. And the same is that spirit of antichrist, of whom ye have heard, how that he should come: and even now already is he in the world.

Nevertheless, among the chief rulers many believed on him: but because of the Pharisees they would not be a known of it, lest they should be excommunicated. For they loved the praise that is given of men, more than the praise that cometh of God.

"Not all they that say unto me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter in to the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth my father's will which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not in thy name prophesied? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name have done many miracles?' And then will I knowledge unto them, that I never knew them: 'Depart from me, ye workers of iniquity.'

Whosoever therefore shall knowledge me before men, him will I knowledge also before my father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my father which is in heaven.

John bare witness of him and cried, saying, "This was he of whom I spake, which though he came after me, went before me: for he was before me." And of his fullness have all we received, even grace for grace. For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. read more.
No man hath seen God at any time. The only begotten son, which is in the father's bosom, hath declared him.

Such words spake his father, and mother, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had conspired already that if any man did confess that he was Christ, he should be excommunicated out of the Synagogue. Therefore said his father and mother, "He is old enough, ask him." Then again called they the man that was blind, and said unto him, "Give God the praise; we know that this man is a sinner." read more.
He answered and said, "Whether he be a sinner or no, I cannot tell. One thing I am sure of: that I was blind, and now I see." Then said they to him again, "What did he to thee? How opened he thine eyes?" He answered them, "I told you right now! A And ye did not hear. Wherefore would ye hear it again? Will ye also be his disciples?" Then rated they him, and said, "Thou art his disciple. We be Moses' disciples. We are sure that God spake with Moses. This fellow we know not from whence he is." The man answered, and said unto them, "This is a marvelous thing that ye know not whence he is, seeing he opened mine eyes. For we be sure that God heareth not sinners: But if any man be a worshipper of God, and do what his will is, him heareth he. Since the world began was it not heard that any man opened the eyes of one that was born blind. If this man were not of God, he could have done nothing." They answered, and said unto him, "Thou art altogether born in sin: and dost thou teach us?" And they cast him out. Jesus heard that they had excommunicated him: and as soon as he had found him he said unto him, "Dost thou believe on the son of God?" He answered, and said, "And who is it, Lord, that I might believe on him?" And Jesus said unto him, "Thou hast seen him, and he it is that talketh with thee." And he said, "Lord, I believe," and worshipped him.

And Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus. And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water, and the chamberlain said, "See: here is water, what shall let me to be baptised?" Philip said unto him, "If thou believe with all thine heart, thou mayest." He answered, and said, "I believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God."

When Silas and Timothy were come from Macedonia, Paul was constrained by the spirit, to testify to the Jews that Jesus was very Christ.

Then said Paul, "John verily baptised with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people that they should believe on him, which should come after him. That is on Christ Jesus." When they heard that, they were baptised in the name of the Lord Jesus.

For if thou shalt knowledge with thy mouth that Jesus is the Lord, and shalt believe with thine heart that God raised him up from death, thou shalt be safe. For the belief of the heart justifieth: and to knowledge with the mouth maketh a man safe. For the scripture saith, "Whosoever believeth on him, shall not be ashamed."

Cry out these things among the Gentiles, proclaim war; wake up the giants, let them draw nigh; let them come up, all the lusty warriors of them. But the LORD shall be a defense to his own people, and a refuge for the children of Israel.

Let both grow together till harvest come: and in time of harvest, I will say to the reapers, Gather ye first the tares, and bind them in sheaves to be burnt: but gather the wheat into my barn.'" Another parable he put forth unto them saying, "The kingdom of heaven is like unto a grain of mustard seed, which a man taketh and soweth in his field, which is the least of all seeds. But when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and it is a tree: so that the birds of the air come, and build in the branches of it." Another similitude said he to them, "The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven which a woman taketh and hideth in three pecks of meal, till all be leavened." All these things spake Jesus unto the people by similitudes, and with out similitudes spake he nothing to them, to fulfill that which was spoken by the prophet saying, "I will open my mouth in similitudes, and will speak forth things which have been kept secret from the beginning of the world." Then sent Jesus the people away, and came to house. And his disciples came unto him, saying, "Declare unto us the similitude of the tares in the field." Then answered he and said to them, "He that soweth the good seed, is the son of man, and the field is the world. And the children of the kingdom, they are the good seed. And the tares are the children of the wicked. And the enemy that soweth them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the world. And the reapers be the angels. For even as the tares are gathered, and burnt in the fire, so shall it be in the end of this world. The son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that do offend, and all them which do iniquity, and shall cast them into a furnace of fire. There shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. Then shall the just men shine as bright as the sun in the kingdom of their father. Whosoever hath ears to hear, let him hear.

And John bare record, saying, "I saw the spirit descend from heaven, like unto a dove, and abide upon him, and I knew him not: But he that sent me to baptise in water, the same said unto me, 'Upon whom thou shalt see the spirit descend, and tarry still on him, the same is he which baptiseth with the holy ghost.' And I saw it, and bare record, that this is the son of God." The next day after, John stood again, and two of his disciples, and he beheld Jesus as he walked by, and said, "Behold the lamb of God."

and John also baptised in Enon, besides Salim, because there was much water there, and they came, and were baptised. For John was not yet cast into prison. And there arose a question between John's disciples and the Jews about purifying. read more.
And they came unto John, and said unto him, "Rabbi, behold he that was with thee beyond Jordan, to whom thou barest witness, behold the same baptiseth, and all men come to him." John answered, and said, "A man can receive nothing at all except it be given him from heaven. Ye yourselves are witnesses, how that I said, 'I am not Christ: but am sent before him.' He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: But the friend of the bridegroom which standeth by and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly of the bridegroom's voice. Therefore this, my joy, is fulfilled. He must increase: and I must decrease. He that cometh from on high is above all: he that is of the earth is of the earth, and speaketh of the earth. He that cometh from heaven, is above all: And what he hath seen and heard, that he testifieth: but no man receiveth his testimony. Howbeit, he that hath received his testimony hath set to his seal that God is true. For he whom God hath sent, speaketh the words of God. For God giveth not the spirit by measure. The father loveth the son, and hath given all things into his hand. He that believeth on the son, hath everlasting life. And he that believeth not the son, shall not see life: but the wrath of God abideth on him."

There is another that beareth witness of me. And I am sure that the witness which he beareth of me is true. Ye sent unto John, and he bare witness unto the truth:

And many resorted unto him, and said, "John did no miracle: But all things that John spake of this man are true."

And when John had fulfilled his course, he said, 'Whom ye think that I am? The same am I not, but behold there cometh one after me, whose shoes of his feet I am not worthy to loose.'

Then came to my remembrance the words of the Lord, how he said, 'John baptised with water, but ye shall be baptised with the holy ghost.'

In those days John the Baptist came, and preached in the wilderness of Jewry, saying, "Repent: the kingdom of heaven is at hand." This is he of whom it is spoken by the Prophet Isaiah, which sayeth, "The voice of a crier in wilderness, 'Prepare the Lord's way and make his paths straight.'" read more.
This John had his garment of camel's hair, and a girdle of a skin about his loins; his meat was locusts and wild honey. Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Jewry, and all the regions round about Jordan, and were baptised of him in Jordan, confessing their sins. When he saw many of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, "O generation of vipers, who hath taught you to flee from the vengeance to come? Bring forth therefore the fruits belonging to repentance: And see that you think not to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham for our father': for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham. Even now is the axe put unto the root of the trees: so that every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. I baptise you in water in token of repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptise you with the holy ghost and with fire:

and preached, saying, "A stronger than I cometh after me, whose shoe latchet I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose. I have baptised you with water: but he shall baptise you with the holy ghost."

John answered and said to them all, "I baptise you with water, but a stronger than I cometh after me, whose shoe latchet I am not worthy to unloose: he will baptise you with the holy ghost, and with fire,

John answered them, saying, "I baptise with water: but one is come among you, whom ye know not. He it is that cometh after me, which was before me, whose shoe latchet I am not worthy to unloose." These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John did baptise. read more.

Then said Paul, "John verily baptised with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people that they should believe on him, which should come after him. That is on Christ Jesus."
