But He answered them, Well did Esaias prophesy concerning you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me: and in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the injunctions of men. For laying aside the commandment of God, ye retain the tradition of men, as the washings of pots and cups, and many other such like things. read more.
And ye expressly annul the commandment of God, that ye may retain your own tradition; for Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, He that revileth father or mother, let him be put to death: but ye say, If a man tell his father or mother, That which thou mightest be profited by from me is Corban, (that is, a gift to the temple) it sufficeth: and so ye allow him to do nothing more for his father or his mother: making void the word of God by your tradition,. And many such like things ye do.

And whereas the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks look for wisdom, we preach Christ crucified; read more.
to the Jews indeed a stumbling-block, and to the Greeks foolishness; but to them that are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. Because the foolishness of God, as they call it, is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

For it is written, "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent." Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputant of the age? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

Let no one deceive himself: if any among you seem to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be truly wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God; for it is written, "He taketh the wise in their own craftiness:" and again, "The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain." read more.
