Then the devil took Jesus to a very high mountain, and showed all the kingdoms of the earth and the glory of them, and said to him, "All these will I give you, if you will fall down and worship me."

"To you will I give all this authority and this glory; for it has been handed over to me, and I give it to whomever I wish. "If then you will worship me, it shall all be yours."

Then the Spirit drove him at once into the desert, and he remained in the desert for forty days, tempted by Satan; and he was among the wild beasts, but the angels were ministering to him.

"It has been said," replied Jesus, "Thou shalt not tempt the Lord, thy God." So, after exhausting on him every kind of temptation, the devil left him for a time.
